Won’t get fooled again. Welcome to the Know the Difference Minute. Can’t blame anyone for being a little doubtful when it comes to employment numbers. After a recent string of misses, estimates aren’t what they used to be. Here’s one piece of good job-related news: initial jobless claims have reached a 2-month low as the labor market exits the Omicron era. Officially, there were 215,000 new claims. A year ago, that number was 750,000. Continuing claims, or the number of people currently receiving unemployment, is just under 1.5 million. And, for what it’s worth, the new ADP private payroll number released yesterday showed a better-than-expected gain of 475,000 jobs, more than 1/3rd of them in the leisure and hospitality industries. A key number arrives tomorrow at 730 with the Labor Department’s February jobs report. The estimate is 403,000 with a 3.9% unemployment rate. I’m Dave Spano from Annex Wealth Management.
