You can now, top off your free night certificates up to 25,000 points. Previously, it was only 15,000 points. So if you had a certificate and it was whatever, say, 35,000, you could only max that up to 50,000. So now you get an extra 10,000 there. 00:01:18:10 - 00:01:33:18 Chris So that's up to 60,000. And if you have a card like the Marriott brilliant card like I have, and it comes with a free night certificate that is worth 85,000 points. Now you can use that by adding a few more points up to 110,000. So that's great news. 00:01:33:18 - 00:01:34:15 Katie Awesome. 00:01:34:17 - 00:01:51:12 Chris Yeah, we were hoping that Hyatt was going to make this move, but, married already had this, and now they're making it even better. So that's nice to see. This pairs nicely with a couple of their offers. The new PalmOS offer, you can get up to four free. Nice certificates. And then the brilliant card. I'm happy to hear that. 00:02:00:09 - 00:02:25:04 Chris On less great news, Citi just announced an update to the Thank you rewards point sharing program, effective may 17th of this year. Point sharing will no longer be offered as a thank you rewards redemption option. You'll no no longer be able to share, to receive shared points. You can share and receive points up until May 16th, 2026. 00:02:25:06 - 00:02:44:14 Chris And as a reminder, shared points expire 90 days after the date they were shared. There was a little confusion when this first came out, whether this was for all cards, and we reached out to Citi and a spokesperson confirmed that this will affect all cards earning thankyou points. Well let's move on to some better news. Katie, you just got back from a trip and I was following an Instagram and it looked amazing as always. It tell us all about it. 00:03:10:14 - 00:03:32:06 Katie Yep. I was invited out by the Dream Sapphire resort in Mexico. It's in Puerto Morelos, Mexico, which is about 20, my or not, 20 miles, 20 minutes south of Cancun. So super easy to get to. I was even able to take a direct flight from Columbus. There. It was the first time I flew direct internationally from Columbus and it was awesome. 00:03:32:08 - 00:03:36:21 Katie Really. I was at the resort by 10 a.m.. Like it was so easy to get to. 00:03:36:22 - 00:03:37:19 Chris Nice. 00:03:37:21 - 00:03:59:18 Katie Yeah, it was awesome. So they invited me out to check out their newer section of the resort, which is the Clubs and Villas section. And this, area has 70 suites and ten two story, two bedroom villas. So it's there's, you know, the rest of the resort. This is kind of off to the side and has been renovated more recently than the, remaining part of the resort. 00:03:59:20 - 00:04:22:09 Katie One of the things I loved is my room had an ocean front location, not just an ocean view, not even like a far away ocean front. This was probably one of the closest times, or one of the closest rooms I've had to the ocean, because the beach is actually pretty small. So it was just right there. And as someone who loves just sitting on a balcony with a cup of coffee in the morning, it was awesome. 00:04:22:11 - 00:04:44:21 Katie As a club and villas guest, I had access to an adult only pool, which was a calm, quiet pool kind of. It was totally surrounded by greenery, so if you didn't know it was there, it would be really easy to miss, which was really nice. For those of us who did know it was there. One of the cool things about that pool was they had complimentary ballet beds. 00:04:44:23 - 00:05:13:18 Katie You just had to reserve them the day before, but they were free, which was awesome. They did have some ones that you could pay $50 for and like, that's a great price to reserve a bed at a pool for the whole day. And those were supposedly in like a preferred location, very close to the pool. But I actually really liked the free ones better because they were back, all shaded because they were like backed up to the greenery and the ones that you had to pay for had like people walking in front of you all the time. 00:05:13:20 - 00:05:16:21 Katie So I was like, okay, I'll take the free one in the back. 00:05:16:22 - 00:05:19:01 Chris Like, can you describe what is it, Bali bed. 00:05:19:06 - 00:05:37:02 Katie Yeah, I'll, I'll put up a picture for those of you who are watching on YouTube, but it's just like you've probably seen them at resorts, just just like a, I don't know, maybe a queen size type outdoor mattress with like the pergola covering up to. Okay, so you have a comfy spot to sit your own space and nice cushy. 00:05:37:02 - 00:05:42:20 Katie So you're not on one of those like hard lounge chairs or anything like that. They're just it's a really nice spot if you're just going to spend the day by the pool. 00:05:42:20 - 00:05:43:14 Chris Gotcha. 00:05:43:16 - 00:06:03:22 Katie So that was a really nice perk. I really enjoyed that. There's also a rooftop pool that clubs and villas guests can access. And that was really nice. Views of the water, a nice breeze up there. We showed up early. This one did have Bali beds, too. You do not have to reserve them. They do fill up. 00:06:04:00 - 00:06:27:12 Katie We showed up in the morning and actually got our preferred one that we liked kind of off in the corner. So it had some more shade. And people come and go so you can get a spot any time of the day because it's a lot less crowded at that pool. There's also a sushi restaurant up there that's exclusive for, clubs and villas, preferred club guests, and we really enjoyed spending the day up there as well. 00:06:27:12 - 00:06:48:14 Katie There's a an exclusive restaurant that we were able to access for breakfast. It was open air out with views of the water. It was such a nice spot to have breakfast every morning. The resort is family friendly. Those two pools that I talked about are adults only. The resort is family friendly and there's a huge main pool, that you can use if you have kids. 00:06:48:16 - 00:07:07:18 Katie It was crowded, you know, spring break time, so I would expect that. But actually, the pool was so big, there was plenty of space. So you weren't like elbow to elbow with people in the pool. Yeah. And then there was a separate area with some water slides that looked really fun, and we actually didn't end up doing them because we went up to this other rooftop pool. 00:07:07:18 - 00:07:24:12 Katie And I was kind of upset that we didn't do them because they looked really cool. And then they had a lot of like, games and stuff for kids. There's ping pong and like the giant, Connect four and stuff like that. So a lot of stuff for kids to do as well. One thing I did want to mention there was a lot of seaweed. 00:07:24:14 - 00:07:49:04 Katie Now that is a problem. It has it's not unique to sapphire at all. It's going to it depends on and I'm not a seaweed expert. I know that surprises you. But from what I've read, it's seasonal and it really depends on exactly where you are in the coast. And it can change pretty quickly. So like for me, I go to the beach a lot, so it didn't really bother me. 00:07:49:06 - 00:08:13:03 Katie And it did not take away from the enjoyment of being in that oceanfront room at all. But if you know, if you're saving up for that one beach vacation, you know, a year or every five years or whatever, it might be good to go on, just dig around. I'm sure you can find a Reddit thread of people who have been to a resort, you know, recently to just kind of get an idea of if it's going to be a problem. 00:08:13:05 - 00:08:27:15 Katie I will say when I, I guess about halfway through my stay, they sort of put up what I think looked kind of like a net that I'm guessing was trying to kind of stop some of that from coming onto the beach, and they did start cleaning it up as I was leaving, like the day I was leaving. 00:08:27:15 - 00:08:45:03 Katie So while there was a lot of seaweed there for my stay, for all I know, next, you know if you're there next week it could be totally clean, so just wanted to mention it, but it's not anything. Yeah. And that really goes for really any time you're going to the Caribbean, because it can be a problem in a lot of different locations. 00:08:45:05 - 00:09:10:13 Katie This resort with the current, Hyatt category is, category B, and it is 17,000, 20,000 or 23,000 points per night whether you're off peak, standard or peak, as we know, that's all changing in May. And they're going to have like 18 different options for they're not dynamic pricing. So I don't know, if it will remain a category B. 00:09:10:15 - 00:09:31:18 Katie But right now it's really affordable on points and even in cash. I stayed in the club master suite oceanfront and those rooms start, at certain times of the year, around $625 per night. And that's for two people. And it was a huge room oceanfront. So that's actually a really reasonable price for that type of a room. 00:09:31:19 - 00:09:52:20 Katie You can get a junior suite on that oceanfront location for under $400 at certain times of the year. And if you just want to, you know, cheapest possible, you can get a base level room at this resort for under $300 at certain points of the year. So whether you're paying with cash or with points, it's a very budget friendly option for nice all inclusive. 00:09:52:20 - 00:10:11:14 Katie And it is. It's not a budget resort by any means. It is an it's, you know, it's a nice resort. But it does have very moderate pricing right now. So I thought that was a nice option if you're just looking for an easy, quick getaway. We spent three nights and it was three, you know, full nights because we were there that first day by 10 a.m.. 00:10:11:14 - 00:10:22:18 Katie So, I really enjoyed it. And actually, it was perfect timing as a segue for our topic today, Chris, which is booking all inclusive resorts with points. So the timing on that one was just. 00:10:22:18 - 00:10:23:11 Chris Incredible how that. 00:10:23:12 - 00:10:27:22 Katie Incredible I know, I know, I know. 00:10:28:00 - 00:10:46:23 Chris All right. Well let me let's let's bring it in because Katie's not the only one going to all inclusives. Demand for all inclusive resorts is rising. But also what customers expect to these resorts is evolving. Travelers looking for those locally inspired foods, excursions off property, higher quality food and beverages. 00:10:47:00 - 00:11:09:12 Katie Yeah, there are so many different kinds of all inclusive resorts now. Whereas maybe five, ten years ago you heard all inclusive resort and you picture just huge beachfront bad food, bad drinks, you know, nothing special. And there are really, really some amazing options right now for families. You can book resorts with onsite water parks. There were water slides at the Dream Sapphire. 00:11:09:12 - 00:11:46:10 Katie I just want to add, the Hyatt Ziva cap, Kona. There was an onsite waterpark, Dreams Bahia Miedo, which I went to last year. I was at earlier this now last year, had an onsite waterpark. They had an onsite, like, ropes course too. There are wellness resorts like Miraval, which are super ultra luxury. You can get, you know, yoga classes and and floating meditation and included, and there's even those ultra luxury boutique hotels, super, super high end, like, la casa de la Playa, which I stayed at a few years ago. 00:11:46:12 - 00:12:03:13 Katie There is nothing budget or main you know, mass market about that hotel, but it wasn't all inclusive. So it's not just a one size fits all anymore with these types of hotels. And the best part, of course, Chris, that we love is a lot of these can be booked with points. 00:12:03:15 - 00:12:23:14 Chris That is true. And one of our favorite brands, Hyatt has been making some huge investments in the all inclusive markets in recent years. They recently acquired the leisure group Fly Hotels and Resorts by here Principi, and they just announced a brand new build of an all inclusive resort scheduled to open in 2029. That's going to be the Hyatt highest of come to Kona. 00:12:23:16 - 00:12:45:13 Chris So there's just a lot, of options and a lot more on the horizon, too. So there's just a lot to look forward to for the high inclusive collection. Right now, they have over 100 resorts in 13 different countries. There are ten brands, plus some independent, independent properties. We talk a lot about the Hyatt Zevon's, Elara, the dreams, secrets. 00:12:45:13 - 00:12:54:18 Chris So a tree and soundscape. But there's more. And then they have, but they have a separate award chart for these, they run a through F. So, Katie, you were just at a B, is that right? 00:12:54:20 - 00:12:58:19 Katie Yeah. There's a category B, which is one of the the less expensive ones. 00:12:58:22 - 00:13:18:00 Chris Okay. Yeah. So they start at 12,000, points per night, but they can go up to 58,000. But then we're going to see that range jump up a little bit starting in May. It's going to stay at 12,000. But it will go up to 85,000. So you're going to see these, you know, these peak dates get a little bit more expensive. 00:13:18:00 - 00:13:37:01 Chris But who knows. It's may still be worth it for a lot of people with points. And then for those who want to stay at them, we were all, it's a separate award chart all on its own. It goes from 40,000 to 137,000 points per night. And that's going to go up 260,000 points per night. A little eye watering. 00:13:37:01 - 00:13:38:20 Chris But sometimes those miracles have some good, 00:13:39:01 - 00:13:49:02 Katie Miracles are amazing. I wouldn't pay $160,000 or points per night. But you just get the base level room there. It's going to be an amazing day. 00:13:49:04 - 00:13:57:17 Chris Yeah. And this is a reminder. If you're trying to build up your high point balance, you can transfer directly from Chase and from built at a 1 to 1 ratio. 00:13:57:19 - 00:14:29:13 Katie Yeah. Moving on to Marriott. They do have a really solid, collection of all inclusives. They've got 39 resorts in nine different countries under brands like Marriott, Westin, Royalton and Planet Hollywood. We saw the first W branded all inclusive last year, in the Dominican Republic. And then the Westin Playa Viera actually used to be the Western Puerto Vallarta, which I visited last year, and that resort has gone under some major renovations and that will be, reintroduced as an all inclusive beginning this May. 00:14:29:13 - 00:14:42:17 Katie So I really liked it. I loved the pool at that place. That has a special place in my heart. And if you need more Marriott points to book one of these resorts, you can transfer from Amex, Chase, or build at a 1 to 1 ratio. 00:14:42:19 - 00:15:07:10 Chris Very nice. Continuing on some that many people may not realize that IHG actually has quite a few properties, that are all inclusive around 11 countries. There's some in Europe and Africa, and they also partner with Iberostar. So now you can have, Iberostar beachfront resorts. And those are all across the Caribbean, in South America, down in Brazil too. 00:15:07:11 - 00:15:32:09 Chris So it's really nice. These, brands cover Holiday Inn, Voco, Kimpton, and the first all inclusive IHG property in the US just opened. It's the Voco, sandpiper. It opened in January in Florida, and it looks really nice. So if you want to do all inclusive without jumping on, you know, an international flight, unless you're flying from Columbus, that's a really nice option. 00:15:32:11 - 00:15:37:20 Chris As a reminder, you can transfer your your chase and Bill points to a 1 to 1 ratio as well. 00:15:37:22 - 00:15:56:23 Katie A lot of people are excited about that. Voco sandpiper. It's a great option when you don't want to or can't travel to the country for lots of different reasons. Nice one close to home for a lot of people. Hilton also has some all inclusive resorts, but not as many. They have 11 resorts across five countries, but they do have some interesting ones, like in Greece and Turkey. 00:15:56:23 - 00:16:14:07 Katie So could be a good option under brands including Curio Collection and DoubleTree and Hilton. And then if you do need more Hilton points, you can transfer from Amex at a 1 to 2 ratio. So let's take a quick break. There are 64 locations across 14 countries, including Asia, that offer all inclusive some of the brands that you may be familiar with our trademark collection, registry, collection, hotels and ultra. 00:17:22:15 - 00:17:44:04 Chris Some of these look more like traditional hotels with all inclusive plans as opposed to you know, a traditional, all inclusive resort. And as a reminder, Wyndham has three tiers of award redemptions 7500 points, 15,000 points and 30,000 points per night. So depending on where you're looking, you may find some really reasonable rates. And since it's a fixed award chart, there are some really good deals out there to be had. 00:17:44:08 - 00:17:58:03 Chris If you have one of the three Wyndham Rewards earner credit cards, you'll pay 10% less when booking a room with points. And as a reminder, you can transfer in a 1 to 1 ratio from Capital One, Chase and City to Wyndham. 00:17:58:05 - 00:18:20:08 Katie Yeah, next one is choice all Inclusives. There are nine resorts in Mexico and the Dominican Republic. So great. If you're just looking for a nice Caribbean trip. All of their all inclusives are under the Ascend Collection brand, which is one of their higher end brands. And you can also book a handful of preferred hotels, all inclusives with choice points. 00:18:20:10 - 00:18:30:08 Katie So that's a nice option. As a reminder, Citi and Wells Fargo transfer 1 to 2 and Capital One and Amex transfer 1 to 1. 00:18:30:10 - 00:18:49:00 Chris Okay, and speaking of preferred hotels, there are 15 preferred all inclusive resorts across four different countries. But only two of them are bookable with points, but they're different from the ones you can book with. Choice. City transfers at a 1 to 4 ratio and Capital One transfers and a 1 to 2 ratio. 00:18:49:01 - 00:18:52:00 Katie Yeah, that could be a really interesting option for city points. 00:18:52:01 - 00:18:52:19 Chris Yeah. 00:18:52:21 - 00:19:14:14 Katie Okay. Next we have a core, which is a program that we don't talk about as much as maybe we probably should. There are 40 different hotels in ten destinations for all inclusive properties. In a core under brands like Rixos, SLS and a few others. You can redeem a core points at it's to €2 cents per point. 00:19:14:16 - 00:19:34:23 Katie And it's just a fixed value. You don't have to cover the entire thing with points. So that's a really nice option. It's a it's actually a pretty easy program to to get a handle on that. I wish we talked about a little bit more City and Capital One points or. Yeah, city and Capital One points transfer at a 2 to 1 ratio and build transfers at a 3 to 2 ratio. 00:19:35:00 - 00:19:58:07 Chris Yeah. Good point. And a core. A lot of my points. My friends in Brazil, they love a core. And it just because it is a very attractive program. Whereas you know the traditional point systems, the way that the earning is here, it's just not as is as lucrative. And the core works really well. Especially when you're trying to convert, you know, Brazilian reais to euros. 00:19:58:13 - 00:20:15:06 Chris This is a nice little deal. And so you can do the same thing with dollars to it can make a lot of sense for a lot of people. Let's move on to some tips for booking All-Inclusive vacations. When you pay cash at these resorts, the price can often vary between 1 and 2 people. But when you're paying with points, the the price is going to be based on two people. 00:20:15:06 - 00:20:32:04 Chris So that's where you can really find a nice little deal there. However, the price will go up when you start adding a third and fourth person to the room. Some of these resorts are adults only, so double check that you're booking a family friendly resort before you start traveling with kids that you don't want to get there and be rejected. 00:20:32:06 - 00:20:49:09 Chris The term all inclusive usually means that all of your meals and beverages are included with the price, but always double check your resort for specifics. Whether anything about this top shelf alcohol for an extra price, or activities that cost extra, snacks and specialty dining. So make sure that those are included before you start going and signing everything to your room. 00:20:49:13 - 00:21:00:07 Chris Often, extras like spa treatments aren't included, and then activities like renting kayaks and paddleboards may or may not be included. You'll just need to double check before you or you start signing things. 00:21:00:09 - 00:21:33:22 Katie Yeah, for sure, for sure. The other thing you should check is dinner reservations. Some resorts require them and some resorts won't let you make a reservation. But double check and you can even check this before you get there. And it's a good idea to make those reservations if you do need them ahead of time. You can make all your reservations the first night, especially if you're traveling with a big group, it can be hard to get in at your preferred time, so just do that so you don't end up disappointed and at the buffet every single night because that would, that would upset me. 00:21:33:22 - 00:21:57:13 Katie But maybe if you like the phase, you know, you do. You. Check your resorts tipping policy. This is also something that can vary some resorts. I would say most resorts allow tipping. There are a handful that do not. I remember when I went to sandals a million years ago, they were they would not let you tip which was I actually really liked that. 00:21:57:15 - 00:22:17:22 Katie Any time even at those resorts that don't allow tipping things like for your spa treatments or if you have a butler, they're always going to allow tipping for those types of things. So bring some small bills. Ones and fives are really going to be handy to have if you don't have the local currency. I mean, it's always nice to try to get the local currency, but if you don't, don't sweat it. 00:22:17:22 - 00:22:43:07 Katie Most of these places are used to people trying to use US dollars, especially in the Caribbean, so it's not going to be a problem if you forget to get some pesos or euros or wherever you are. Just have some small bills and that's always a nice gesture. The last thing I wanted to mention is some of these resorts are bookable through some of these programs that we're seeing a lot of now, like Chase the edit, Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts. 00:22:43:09 - 00:23:00:03 Katie Those can be good options. Double check the prices, though. With any hotel, those prices sometimes will be the same, sometimes they won't. If you can, you you know, if you're booking with points or I'm sorry if you're booking with cash and you're able to use those, you know, Sapphire credits or the Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts credit, that can be a great deal. 00:23:00:05 - 00:23:19:02 Katie But just double check all those prices. I want one card. I would, unless you are going to ham at the grocery store and restaurants all the time. I would probably default to that venture X, because you really can't go wrong with two points per dollar on all of your purchases. 00:24:27:02 - 00:24:42:19 Chris Yeah, that's a great card.
