भागवतपारायणस्य प्रभावः

षोडशे शतके केरले पून्ताननामा कश्चन गुरुवायूरुपुरेशभक्तः कदाचित् कोट्टियूरस्थे शिवमन्दिरे भागवतपारायणम् आरब्धवान् । तत्र कृष्णरुक्मिणीसंवादस्य कथां विवृत्य एकं पुटचिह्नं संस्थाप्य मन्दिरात् निर्गतः । परन्तु आश्चर्यं नाम अग्रिमे दिने तस्य अध्यायस्य आरम्भे एव तत् पुटचिह्नं दृष्टम् । एवम् अवशिष्टेषु दिनेषु अपि तेन सः एव कथाभागः पुनः पुनः पठितः । अन्तिमे दिने यदा पून्तानः मन्दिरात् भागवतपुस्तकम् आनेतुम् अगच्छत् तदा तत्र भगवान् महेश्वरः भागवतं पठन् तेन दृष्टः । यदा शिवः स्वस्य पारायणम् अरोचत वा इति पार्वतीदेवीम् अपृच्छत् तदा सा अवदत् यत् पून्तानस्य पारायणम् इतोऽपि मधुरम् अस्ति इति । तद् श्रुत्वा पुलकितः पून्तानः हे देव ! इति अवदत् । पार्वतीपरमेश्वरौ तम् अनुगृह्य अदृश्यतां गतवन्तौ ।

In the 16th century, Poonthanam, a devoted follower of Lord Guruvayurappan from Kerala, once began reciting the Bhagavatam at the Shiva temple in Kottiyoor. One day, after reading the dialogue between Krishna and Rukmini, he placed a bookmark and left. To his surprise, the next day the bookmark was at the beginning  of the same chapter. This continued for several days—he kept returning to the same passage. On the final day, when he went to retrieve the Bhagavatam, he saw Lord Shiva himself reading it. When Shiva asked Parvati whether she liked his recitation, she replied, “Poonthanam’s chanting is even sweeter.” Hearing this, Poonthanam was overwhelmed and exclaimed, “O Lord!” Shiva and Parvati blessed him and then disappeared.

What is बालमोदिनी?

सम्भाषणसन्देशः इति संस्कृतमासिकपत्रिका (https://sambhashanasandesha.in) । एतस्यां पत्रिकायां प्रकाशिताः लेखाः, कथाः, बालकथाः, वार्ताः इत्यादिकं सर्वम् अपि सरलसंस्कृतेन एव प्रकाश्यते । तत्रत्याः “बालमोदिनी”नामिकाः बालकथाः अत्र प्रसार्यन्ते । अतः अस्याः शृङ्खलायाः नाम अपि “बालमोदिनी” एव । लघु गात्रं, सरला भाषा च कथानां विशेषः । प्रत्येकं कथा काञ्चित् नीतिं बोधयति । बालकथाः आबालवृद्धं सर्वेषां प्रियाः । संस्कृतेन ताः श्रोतुम् उपलब्धाः भवन्तु इति एषः प्रयत्नः श्रोतृभ्यः अवश्यं रोचेत इति विश्वासः । संस्कृतक्षेत्रे संस्कृतेन पॉड्कास्ट् क्रियमाणाः एताः प्रप्रथमाः कथाः इति सगौरवम् उद्घोष्यते ।

Among these, the children's stories titled “Balamodini” are featured. The series is named “Balamodini” as well. The hallmark of these stories is their short length and simple language. Each story imparts a specific moral lesson. Children’s stories are cherished by everyone, young and old alike. It is believed that listeners will appreciate this effort to make these stories available in Sanskrit. These are the first stories to be podcasted in the Sanskrit language within this field.
