दुश्चिन्तनं पापाय

कदाचित् विश्वामित्रशिष्यः गालवः गरुडश्च गुरुदक्षिणसङ्ग्रहणार्थं प्रपञ्चपर्यटनम् आरब्धवन्तौ । तदवसरे विश्रान्त्यर्थं वृषभपर्वते स्थितवन्तौ । वृषभपर्वतस्थायां गुहायां वसत्या शाण्डिल्यमहर्षिपुत्र्या महातपस्विन्या स्वयम्प्रभया तौ सत्कृतौ । प्रातः उत्थानसमये गरुडस्य पक्षौ दग्धौ आस्ताम् । तदा गालवः गरुडं पृष्टवान् यत् तेन किमपि अनुचितं चिन्तनं कृतं वा इति । तदा गरुडः अवदत् - 'एतादृशीं सुन्दरीं नीत्वा नारयणाय, शिवाय, ब्रह्मणे वा यदि समर्पयेयं तर्हि एतां प्राप्तवान् जनः सन्तुष्टः भवेत् इति चिन्तितं मया’ इति । एतत् दुश्चिन्तनं ज्ञातवत्या स्वयम्प्रभया पक्षयोः दाहः कृतः । यदा गरुडः क्षमां संयाचत तदा स्वयम्प्रभा योगशक्त्या गरुडस्य पक्षौ उज्जीवितवती ।

Once, Galava, a disciple of Vishwamitra, and Garuda set out on a journey across the world to gather guru dakshina. During their travels, they rested at Vrishabha mountain. There, in a cave, they were warmly welcomed by a great ascetic named Swayamprabha, the daughter of Sage Shandilya. The next morning, Garuda’s wings were found scorched. Galava asked Garuda if he had entertained any improper thoughts. Garuda confessed, “I thought that if I offered such a beautiful woman to Narayana, Shiva, or Brahma, the recipient would be pleased.” Swayamprabha, sensing this impure thought, had burned his wings through her yogic power. When Garuda sincerely asked for forgiveness, she restored his wings using her spiritual energy.

सम्भाषणसन्देशः इति संस्कृतमासिकपत्रिका (https://sambhashanasandesha.in) । एतस्यां पत्रिकायां प्रकाशिताः लेखाः, कथाः, बालकथाः, वार्ताः इत्यादिकं सर्वम् अपि सरलसंस्कृतेन एव प्रकाश्यते । तत्रत्याः “बालमोदिनी”नामिकाः बालकथाः अत्र प्रसार्यन्ते । अतः अस्याः शृङ्खलायाः नाम अपि “बालमोदिनी” एव । लघु गात्रं, सरला भाषा च कथानां विशेषः । प्रत्येकं कथा काञ्चित् नीतिं बोधयति । बालकथाः आबालवृद्धं सर्वेषां प्रियाः । संस्कृतेन ताः श्रोतुम् उपलब्धाः भवन्तु इति एषः प्रयत्नः श्रोतृभ्यः अवश्यं रोचेत इति विश्वासः । संस्कृतक्षेत्रे संस्कृतेन पॉड्कास्ट् क्रियमाणाः एताः प्रप्रथमाः कथाः इति सगौरवम् उद्घोष्यते ।
