In this second episode of the conversation I had with Alasdair Walker we discuss a number of subjects including building wealth in the business and personal planning for business owners. In the process of building value in your business to create the life you want now and in the future it is essential to create systems. Alasdair provides tips on how to do this along with his advice on 'rolling with the punches'.

In the process of building value in your business so you can create the life you want now and in the future. Key to this is creating systems in your life and business to enable you to achieve what you want. In this episode we talk about ‘clearing the fog’ to enable you to know what systems are needed.
When discuss that all models are wrong, and some are useful. This helps people clearly map out their plans so that you can ‘roll with the punches’ (following on from the Mike Tyson quote).
The key in modelling is to recognise the choices you / we make and then being comfortable knowing you have made that choice. It’s sometimes as simple as deciding what you want: time or money…
Once again, we come back to discussing the way that systemising your business also leads you to building a business that can, if you choose, run without you.
The difference between a growth business and a lifestyle business is a key choice. Some start as lifestyle and then ‘switch’ to growing a business that is not just about them the essential element is to know which you want and where you are on the journey.
We also discuss the idea of a ‘family constitution’ This includes how you can sit down with your family and identify how we ‘do’ money. As we build wealth it’s worth checking on the assumptions we have around legacy and what ‘kids’ expect in the future.
Finally we talk about the tips Alasdair has for business owners when talking about money and wealth creation – especially around your own personal expectations and wishes.
