Appointed Poet Laureate of Alabama 2022 – 2026, Ashley M. Jones is the youngest and first African American poet in AL to hold this post. She has published 3 poetry volumes earning numerous awards, including the Rona Jaffe Foundation Writers Award, the Silver Medal in the Independent Publishers Book Awards, and the Lucile Clifton Poetry prize. She is a faculty member of the creative writing department of the Alabama School of Fine arts and Founder of the Magic City Poetry Festival in Birmingham, Alabama.
