Appetite for Distraction

From community to fan theories like a 1000 true fans, everybody seems to agree that it's important to work on bringing people together around what you create. We go into why it's so difficult to actually put together a framework around community that more people can use and which scales. Moreover, a lot of the interactions between artist and fan become commercialized to the point where the fan becomes an investor. This brings its own sets of problems with it, and we dig into them.

Show Notes

Yash and Maarten talk about community. Something everyone seems to agree on is one of the most necessary things for any artist. However, there doesn't seem to be a one-playbook-for-all framework that everyone can just use to create a community. It's hard to create the kind of artist-to-fan relationships that work for both sides. Moreover, for a community to really work communication should become multidirectional. And then there's the financial aspect. Should fans become investors? Yash and Maarten dig into the common critiques heard around community-thinking and expose their truths and fallacies.
