Thursday morning saw the streets around Juneau-Douglas High School: bustling with activity as the Juneau School District kicked off the new school year. For the first time in 16 years, all high school students in Juneau are now under one roof, following the consolidation of Juneau-Douglas High School and Thunder Mountain High School. The Thunder Mountain building has been repurposed as a middle school as part of the district’s efforts to address a significant budget shortfall.

state prosecutors have charged two Alaska state troopers with fourth-degree assault after a violent incident in late May involving a man on the Kenai Peninsula. The encounter, captured on body cameras, has led to misdemeanor charges against Troopers Joseph Lee Miller Jr. and Jason Allen Woodruff.

On Tuesday, Alaska voters will reduce the number of contenders for its highly coveted U.S. House seat from 12 to just four. In Alaska's "Top 4" primary system, all candidates appear on the same ballot, regardless of party affiliation, with the top four advancing to the general election.
