Show Notes
Bonus podcast where Naman Julka-Anderson and Jo McNamara catch up with Erin Kennedy OBE who discusses her career as a Paralympic champion rower and thriving with breast cancer.
To use this podcast as CPD, look at these reflection points from Erin herself:
I think for me it’s all about considering the individual within the diagnosis and treatment plan. Just because you consent to treatment and are this set pathway, doesn’t mean you can’t still make choices and have some great opportunities.
1) Giving the feeling of choice - whether over how/where you have your treatment or even what pathways are open to you…. Even if there aren’t that many!
2) Encouraging individuals to still live their lives and do what they can to support them to do so. My oncologist supported me going to the Europeans because she knew it was the right thing for my mental health AND safe to do so.
3) Demonstrating that they are with you all the way! I haven’t had this from any of my team but it’s something that is so important, having spent all my time in a team sport. Having people in your corner is key and it makes you feel so much better about the challenges ahead.
