Drones

The term “Drone” usually refers to any unpiloted aircraft. But there is more to the story. Sometimes referred to as “Unmanned Aerial Vehicles" (UAVs), these craft can carry out an impressive range of tasks, ranging from military operations to package delivery. They can be as large as an aircraft or as small as the palm of your hand. We discuss why learning about these now is worthwhile, how to get involved, and what may be the future of these vehicles. Jeff Voigt is a Naval Academy graduate, a former Surface Warfare Officer, and he's taught at the Academy and at OCS in Newport Rhode Island. He's a private pilot, a certificated UAV operator and a professional photographer.

Guests include senior US Navy and Marine Corp officers who draw on their experience to when discussing topics that are relevant to ethical, philosophical and legal dilemmas that they have faced in the course of their careers. Midshipmen as well as Junior Officers are particularly encouraged to listen.

Ethics and the Naval Warrior is hosted by Michael Sears, a 1978 USNA grad. Michael spent 5 years in the Marine Corps and then earned a JD/MBA from Stanford University. He then went on to a successful career in several prominent Silicon Valley companies. He is now Director of the Boeing Innovation Lab at the Stockdale Center for Ethical Leadership at the Naval Academy.
