bit. 00:02:55.160 --> 00:02:59.260 We've been trying to understand the context of each of the Psalms that we've looked at. 00:02:59.260 --> 00:03:04.340 We talked about the fact that David, King David, David the shepherd, David that killed Goliath, 00:03:04.400 --> 00:03:04.500 right? 00:03:04.720 --> 00:03:08.140 He wrote most of these, but he did not write all of them. 00:03:08.380 --> 00:03:12.860 And so each week we've tried to understand some of the context and the setting of what 00:03:12.860 --> 00:03:13.600 we understand. 00:03:13.720 --> 00:03:15.120 We've looked at one that David wrote. 00:03:15.220 --> 00:03:19.760 We looked at one in week two that was a Psalm of Ascent that the people would actually sing 00:03:19.760 --> 00:03:24.480 as they journeyed up the hill to the temple into Jerusalem of what they would declare. 00:03:24.480 --> 00:03:30.780 And last week we looked at one that we are pretty certain was written by King Hezekiah in a time 00:03:30.780 --> 00:03:35.680 where the city was under siege and on the verge of being occupied. 00:03:35.980 --> 00:03:44.160 So this morning in Psalm 66, there's some opinions about who wrote Psalm 66, but there's no driving 00:03:44.160 --> 00:03:48.680 evidence that here is the individual that wrote this. 00:03:48.680 --> 00:03:54.160 But what is interesting as we look at the 66 Psalm is that we can point to the fact that 00:03:54.160 --> 00:04:01.700 this is referred to oftentimes as a Psalm of the missionaries, that what we'll see in Psalm 00:04:01.700 --> 00:04:08.880 66 is that the Psalmist who writes this will write this out of a heart of missions and out 00:04:08.880 --> 00:04:15.820 of a heart of celebration because of what the Psalmist had experienced, because of what the 00:04:15.820 --> 00:04:24.060 Psalmist knew, because of what the Psalmist was called to, there is this explosion of joy that 00:04:24.060 --> 00:04:28.460 came from his heart and this is where we find this Psalm in its setting. 00:04:29.200 --> 00:04:32.120 And so that's why I showed the video that I showed beforehand. 00:04:32.800 --> 00:04:36.100 Because I think it's a continual reminder, and it's a lot of starting in verse 1. 00:07:21.000 --> 00:07:24.940 Shout for joy to God, all the earth. 00:07:25.920 --> 00:07:28.080 Sing the glory of His name. 00:07:28.900 --> 00:07:30.760 Give to Him glorious praise. 00:07:31.640 --> 00:07:34.360 Say to God, how awesome are your deeds. 00:07:35.080 --> 00:07:39.600 So great is your power that your enemies come cringing to you. 00:07:40.120 --> 00:07:43.940 exalt themselves. 00:08:14.760 --> 00:08:23.400 At the very beginning, and this is why this is kind of set in the heart of the missionary movement of God that He's called us to, 00:08:23.560 --> 00:08:26.980 what we see is a global invitation. 00:08:27.580 --> 00:08:32.640 Written by a Jewish author, a Jewish psalmist at the time, 00:08:32.800 --> 00:08:35.080 what we hear in verse 1, 00:08:35.440 --> 00:08:42.040 shout for joy to God, not all of Israel, not all of God's covenant people, 00:08:42.240 --> 00:08:47.420 but shout to joy to God, all the earth. 00:08:48.280 --> 00:08:53.560 The global proclamation as the psalmist is inviting who? 00:08:54.000 --> 00:08:58.060 All of the earth, all of the peoples to praise God. 00:08:58.480 --> 00:09:00.300 And he does this for a reason. 00:09:01.240 --> 00:09:06.220 The psalmist says that there is a reason why all of the earth should praise God. 00:09:06.660 --> 00:09:11.800 Not only then, but even still today of what we're going to see in the context of Scripture. 00:09:11.800 --> 00:09:14.500 He says this, kind of paraphrasing. 00:09:14.980 --> 00:09:17.680 Praise God for all that He has done. 00:09:17.920 --> 00:09:22.460 And then he gives some examples, the psalmist does, of what he has here. 00:09:22.680 --> 00:09:29.660 All that He has done as He turned the dry sea into land and as they passed through. 00:09:30.540 --> 00:09:36.540 And the examples that he gives, praise God for all the glory He has done for Israel. 00:09:37.500 --> 00:09:39.380 And the question is, why? 00:09:39.380 --> 00:09:45.440 Why should the earth, as the psalmist writes this, whenever the psalmist, whoever it was, 00:09:45.660 --> 00:09:54.680 why should they look at all the work that God has done for Israel and praise God? 00:09:56.000 --> 00:09:56.880 What's God doing? 00:09:56.880 --> 00:09:59.480 What's God showing with Israel? 00:09:59.480 --> 00:10:08.100 As we look at these psalms recorded in the Old Testament, I think it's important for us to remember what God is showing, 00:10:08.240 --> 00:10:09.520 what God is displaying. 00:10:09.780 --> 00:10:14.620 That when you and I, when we look through and as we read Old Testament Scripture, 00:10:14.840 --> 00:10:20.640 we read it through the knowledge of what you and I have been able to learn in our present day and time. 00:10:20.780 --> 00:10:24.260 But at this time, right, there is no virgin birth of Jesus. 00:10:25.700 --> 00:10:27.920 At this time, there is no cross. 00:10:29.600 --> 00:10:32.000 At this time, there is no empty tomb. 00:10:33.020 --> 00:10:35.420 At this time, there is no Pentecost. 00:10:37.160 --> 00:10:39.140 At this time, there is no church. 00:10:40.660 --> 00:10:51.820 But God's display of all of this, of the showing what God will do, of the showing of what is to come, is Israel. 00:10:53.240 --> 00:10:59.240 And so God in his sovereignty, God in his knowledge, God in his goodness, God in his grace, 00:10:59.520 --> 00:11:05.600 chose for himself a nation, chose for himself a people, chose for himself Israel. 00:11:05.600 --> 00:11:12.500 And what God did, and we can look at this and project this onto our life of what we've experienced in Christ. 00:11:12.680 --> 00:11:14.000 He saved that nation. 00:11:14.200 --> 00:11:15.540 He freed that nation. 00:11:15.820 --> 00:11:19.760 He made this would be the nation that Jesus would come from. 00:11:30.300 --> 00:11:38.400 And when God promised this, all the way back in Genesis 12, it's not just so that Israel would be blessed, 00:11:39.100 --> 00:11:47.200 but it's so that Israel would be blessed, so that Israel would be a blessing, Jesus to the world, right? 00:11:48.120 --> 00:11:51.200 Yesterday, Aaron and I were out as of this morning, sitting in my office, going and looking at the most recent statistics, there are 17,410 people groups in this world. 00:14:43.520 --> 00:14:44.660 What is a people group? 00:14:45.420 --> 00:14:49.840 A people group is how we look at all the peoples of the world in missions. 00:14:50.820 --> 00:14:57.460 And a people group is an ethno-linguistic group with a common self-identity that is shared by its various members. 00:14:58.480 --> 00:15:02.520 And so the nations of this world within them have different people groups. 00:15:03.020 --> 00:15:08.740 In fact, people groups also mobilize and migrate to other areas of the world. 00:15:08.740 --> 00:15:16.360 So a people group, so like the United States, for instance, is filled with many different types of people groups. 00:15:16.740 --> 00:15:22.320 But then also within there, there are people groups, like the different Chinese people groups, 00:15:22.480 --> 00:15:26.340 and there are many different Chinese people groups that aren't all just in China. 00:15:26.620 --> 00:15:30.340 They've moved to all different places all over the world. 00:15:30.880 --> 00:15:33.200 And so here's the statistic that I want to stick in your mind. 00:15:33.200 --> 00:15:43.740 And of the 17,410 people groups, 7,398 of them are considered unreached. 00:15:45.360 --> 00:15:53.660 That means to be an unreached people group, that means that accounted for within that people group 00:15:53.660 --> 00:15:56.820 is less than 2% Christian. 00:15:58.820 --> 00:16:09.000 And what that means is 42% of the earth's population is accounted for in these groups. 00:16:10.720 --> 00:16:14.860 Which means for the most part that 42% of the world woke up this morning 00:16:14.860 --> 00:16:21.640 with very little to no opportunity to hear about the gospel of Jesus Christ. 00:16:23.380 --> 00:16:28.900 Now that doesn't mean, and this is important for us, that 58% of the world is saved. 00:16:30.260 --> 00:16:35.300 war-torn country that is all over the news and has been all over the news for years. 00:19:00.560 --> 00:19:07.640 And they've been serving there faithfully as missionaries, and this country what God has done is because of the refining process that 00:24:17.600 --> 00:24:18.500 God takes us through. 00:24:19.300 --> 00:24:22.660 Now, he's reading about how silver is refined. 00:24:23.460 is turned up more and more on the silver, what happens, and as the stress 00:24:38.600 --> 00:24:45.900 of that is placed onto the silver, it causes the imperfections of the silver to rise to the you. 00:29:57.740 --> 00:30:01.000 And I do it with praise, and I do it with joy, 00:30:01.140 --> 00:30:04.720 and I do it in a way that's going to honor and glorify you. 00:30:04.720 -->
