We come together on Sunday mornings for family reunion because this 00:00:15.678 --> 00:00:19.286 is when we get to hang out together and make Jesus the priority. 00:00:19.094 --> 00:00:19.430 All right, 00:00:19.430 --> 00:00:21.110 so we gather this morning to do that. 00:00:21.110 --> 00:00:25.150 And we've been talking our way and reading our way and studying our way 00:00:25.150 --> 00:00:26.398 through the book of Hebrews, 00:00:26.398 --> 00:00:28.504 which I've titled the Messages this year, 00:00:28.504 --> 00:00:29.944 the object of our faith. 00:00:29.944 --> 00:00:31.096 And I'll be honest with you, 00:00:31.096 --> 00:00:32.152 I was sort of, 00:00:32.152 --> 00:00:37.104 I wasn't happy with that title initially because I didn't like calling 00:00:37.144 --> 00:00:38.364 Jesus an object. 00:00:39.024 --> 00:00:42.272 And yet I realized there are a lot of things in this world that we 00:00:42.272 --> 00:00:45.808 worship, a lot of things that we pay attention to, 00:00:45.856 --> 00:00:47.120 that we give honor to, 00:00:47.120 --> 00:00:49.520 that we give our time to, 00:00:49.552 --> 00:00:51.264 we even give our resources to, 00:00:51.264 --> 00:00:55.458 that are objects of worship and faith sometimes. 00:00:55.626 --> 00:01:02.094 And it is Satan's greatest priority to distract us from Jesus. 00:01:02.474 --> 00:01:03.970 Right? That's what he wants to do. 00:01:03.970 --> 00:01:05.762 He doesn't want you paying attention to Jesus. 00:01:05.762 --> 00:01:08.732 Well, the whole book of Hebrews is about Jesus. 00:01:08.794 --> 00:01:12.122 Even though it quotes its way all the way through the Old Testament, 00:01:12.122 --> 00:01:14.274 it just keeps pointing to Jesus. 00:01:14.394 --> 00:01:15.194 All right? 00:01:15.354 --> 00:01:16.482 And in the New Testament, 00:01:16.482 --> 00:01:19.682 obviously, we see the gospels and the life of Jesus, 00:01:19.682 --> 00:01:21.266 and then we see the letters of the, 00:01:21.266 --> 00:01:22.914 the New Testament body of Christ, 00:01:22.914 --> 00:01:24.162 all about Jesus. 00:01:24.298 --> 00:01:27.546 And the book of Hebrews points us specifically to Jesus. 00:01:27.546 --> 00:01:28.482 And I look at it and I go, 00:01:28.482 --> 00:01:29.250 all right, 00:01:29.442 --> 00:01:33.834 let's work our way through it and understand the priority that God's 00:01:33.874 --> 00:01:34.962 establishing right here. 00:01:34.978 --> 00:01:38.534 And so today's message is simply entitled Melchizedek who. 00:01:39.154 --> 00:01:41.762 Okay. And to be honest with you, 00:01:41.778 --> 00:01:45.170 this is one of those things that going all the way back to the 1980s when 00:01:45.170 --> 00:01:46.634 I was in Bible college, 00:01:46.634 --> 00:01:49.162 and there was a great professor that I loved and enjoyed. 00:01:49.162 --> 00:01:50.594 His name was Doctor Scott, 00:01:50.594 --> 00:01:51.724 Doctor Raymond Scott. 00:01:51.764 --> 00:01:54.396 And he actually served as a pastor here in North Carolina, 00:01:54.396 --> 00:01:55.860 up around Fayetteville, 00:01:55.892 --> 00:01:57.516 somewhere up in that area for a time. 00:01:57.516 --> 00:01:58.836 And anyway, 00:01:59.020 --> 00:02:00.104 Doctor Scott, 00:02:01.364 --> 00:02:03.100 one of the textbooks for his class, 00:02:03.100 --> 00:02:05.004 was entitled to understand the Old Testament, 00:02:05.004 --> 00:02:06.064 look for Jesus. 00:02:06.884 --> 00:02:08.636 And so he mentions in that book, 00:02:08.636 --> 00:02:09.996 he mentions in the textbook, 00:02:09.996 --> 00:02:13.300 and he mentioned in the class what we refer to as christophanes, 00:02:13.300 --> 00:02:18.390 these appearances of Jesus prior to his incarnation or priority to his 00:02:18.422 --> 00:02:19.686 earthly life or his, 00:02:19.686 --> 00:02:21.062 as the writer of Hebrews put it, 00:02:21.062 --> 00:02:22.662 his days in the flesh. 00:02:22.662 --> 00:02:27.358 Right now I'm going to go ahead and tell you that the conclusion of 00:02:27.366 --> 00:02:28.342 today's message is, 00:02:28.342 --> 00:02:30.294 I don't know okay, 00:02:30.334 --> 00:02:33.622 can I just go ahead and just tell you all that honestly and hope that you 00:02:33.622 --> 00:02:35.262 will accept that from me? 00:02:35.262 --> 00:02:35.558 You know, 00:02:35.558 --> 00:02:39.854 I tend to take a very simple approach to understanding what God is 00:02:39.894 --> 00:02:44.184 revealing. But it says Jesus has entered there on our behalf as a forerunner, 00:03:12.874 --> 00:03:16.074 meaning the holy of holies through the veil, 00:03:16.114 --> 00:03:16.882 all that sort of thing, 00:03:16.882 --> 00:03:18.946 because he has become a high priest forever, 00:03:18.946 --> 00:03:21.570 according to the order of Melchizedek. 00:03:21.762 --> 00:03:22.422 For this. 00:03:22.434 --> 00:03:23.986 Melchizedek.
