The Anchor Point Podcast

Today on the show, we talk all about the fire weather and how insanely difficult an IMET's job is with Sean Luchs!

Show Notes

Wildland fire behavior is obviously directly impacted by the weather - So, today on the show, we discuss the ins and outs of fire weather, and get to better understand the incredibly important role of and Incident Meteorologist...

Sean Luchs is a meteorologist for the National Weather Service at the Houston/Galveston Weather
Forecast Office. Despite living in a location known for its torrential rainfall and flooding, he is also a part
of the NWS Incident Meteorologist, or IMET, program. These forecasters volunteer to provide onsite
weather support to Incident Management Teams at wildland fires and other incidents across the
country. He is also an air resource advisor, tasked with providing forecasts of smoke impacts to
firefighters and the public.

Before joining the National Weather Service, Sean earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in
Meteorology from the University of Oklahoma. After finishing his education, he joined the Florida Forest
Service as the State Fire Meteorologist. In addition to wildland fires, Sean has provided weather support
for major hurricanes, industrial accidents, and has assisted the Spaceflight Meteorology Group at NASA’s
Johnson Space Center. Outside of work, Sean enjoys spending time with his family, often learning more
than he ever thought he could know about Godzilla and other kaiju from his young son.
