Immerse: Bible Reading Experience - NLT Daily Bible In A Year

Day 227 Bible Reading: The Reign of Jehoshaphat and Elijah's Prophecy

In today's Immerse Daily Bible Reading Experience, we examine Jehoshaphat's rule over Judah, starting from the fourth year of King Ahab's reign. Jehoshaphat, Asa's son, reigned for 25 years in Jerusalem and was recognized as a good king, despite failing to remove all pagan shrines. Additionally, we explore his efforts in diplomacy and naval ventures, which ended in misfortune. The reading further transitions to Ahaziah's rule over Israel, marked by his evil practices and defiance of God. Elijah the prophet confronts Ahaziah for seeking answers from Baal-Zebub instead of God. This confrontation leads to dramatic events where Elijah calls down fire from heaven, resulting in the death of two groups of soldiers. Ultimately, Ahaziah's disobedience leads to his death, fulfilling Elijah's prophecy.

Kingdoms
Immerse: Kingdoms is the third of six volumes in Immerse: The Bible Reading Experience. Kingdoms presents a new and unique journey through the story of Israel from the time of its conquest of Canaan (Joshua) through its struggle to settle the land (Judges, Ruth) and the establishment of Israel’s kingdom, which ends in a forced exile (Samuel–Kings). The nation of Israel, commissioned to be God’s light to the nations, falls to division and then foreign conquest for rejecting God’s rule.

3. Did anything make you think differently about God?
4. How might this change the way we live?

QUICK START GUIDE
3 ways to get the most out of your experience
  1. Use Immerse: Beginnings instead of your regular chapter and verse Bible. This special reader’s edition restores the Bible to its natural simplicity and beauty by removing chapter and verse numbers and other historical additions. Letters look like letters, songs look like songs, and the original literary structures are visible in each book.
  2. Commit to making this a community experience. Immerse is designed for groups to encounter large portions of the Bible together
for 8 weeks–more like a book club, less like a Bible study. By meeting every week in small groups and discussing what you read in open,
honest conversations, you and your community can come together to be transformed through an authentic experience with the Scriptures.
  3. Aim to understand the big story. Read through “The Stories and the Story” (p. 483) to see how the books of the Bible work together to tell God’s story of his creation’s restoration. As you read through Immerse: Beginnings, rather than ask, “How do I fit God into my busy life?” begin asking, “How can I join in God’s great plan by living out my part in his story?”

Daily Bible Reading Experience.

Day 200 and 27

jehoshaphat's son of Asa began to
rule over Judah in the fourth year

of King Ahab's reign in Israel.

Jehoshaphat was 35 years old
when he became King, and he

reigned in Jerusalem 25 years.

His mother was Azua,
the daughter of SH high.

Jehoshaphat was a good king following
the example of his father Asa.

He did what was pleasing in the
Lord's sight during his reign.

However, he failed to remove all the
pagan shrines and the people still offered

sacrifices and burned incense there.

Jehoshaphat also made peace
with the King of Israel.

The rest of the events in Jehoshaphat's
Reign, the extent of his power and the

wars he waged are recorded in the book
of the history of the Kings of Judah.

He banished from the land, the rest of
the male and female shrine prostitutes,

who still continued their practices
from the days of his father Asa.

There was no king in Edam at that time.

Only a deputy Jehoshaphat also built a
fleet of trading ships to sail to ER for

gold, but the ships never set sail for.

They met with disaster in their home.

Port of Izzy and Giber.

At one time, ahah son of Ahab had
proposed to Jehoshaphat, let My Men

Sail with your men in the Ships.

But Jehoshaphat refused the request.

When Jehoshaphat died, he was buried
with his ancestors in the city of David.

Then his son, Horam, became the next king.

Ahah son of Ahab began to rule
over Israel in the 17th year of

King Jehoshaphat's reign in Judah.

He reigned in Samaria two years, but he
did what was evil in the Lord's sight

following the example of his father and
mother and the example of Jar Boham,

son of Nebat who had led Israel to sin.

He served Baal and worshiped him.

Provoking the anger of the Lord, the God
of Israel, just as his father had done.

After King Ahab's death, the land
of Moab rebelled against Israel.

One day, Israel's new king, a Isaiah,
fell through the lattice work of

an upper room at his palace in
Samaria and was seriously injured.

So he sent messengers to the temple
of Baal Zebu, the God of Akron,

to ask whether he would recover.

But the angel of the Lord told Elijah,
who is from Tishbe, go and confront the

messengers of the King of Samaria and
ask them, is there no God in Israel?

Why are you going to ba zebu
the God of Akron, to ask whether

the king will recover now?

Therefore, this is what the Lord says.

You will never leave the
bed you are lying on.

You'll surely die.

So Elijah went to deliver the message.

When the messengers returned
to the king, he asked them,

why have you returned so soon?

They replied, A man came up to
us and told us to go back to the

king and give him this message.

This is what the Lord says,
is there no God in his Israel?

Why are you sending men to
Baal Zebu, the God of Akron, to

ask whether you will recover.

Therefore, because you have done this, you
will never leave the bed you are lying on.

You will surely die.

What sort of man was
he, the king demanded?

What did he look like?

They replied.

He was a hairy man and he wore
a leather belt around his waist.

Elijah from Tishbe, the king exclaimed.

Then he sent an army captain
with 50 soldiers to arrest him.

They found him sitting on top of a hill.

The captain said to him, man
of God, the king has commanded

you to come down with us.

But Elijah replied to the captain, if I
am a man of God, let fire come down from

heaven and destroy you and your 50 men.

Then fire fell from heaven
and killed them all.

So the king sent another
captain with 50 men.

The captain said to him, man of God, the
king demands that you come down at once.

Elijah replied, if I am a man of
God, Let fire come down from heaven

and destroy you and your 50 men.

And again, the fire of God fell from
heaven and killed them all once more.

The king sent a third captain with 50
men, but this time the captain went

up the hill and fell to his knees
before Elijah, he pleaded with him, oh

man of God, please spare my life and
the lives of these your 50 servants.

See how the fire from heaven came
down and destroyed the first two

groups, but now please spare my life.

Then the angel of the Lord said
to Elijah, go down with him

and don't be afraid of him.

So Elijah got up and went with him
to the king, and Elijah said to the

king, this is what the Lord says.

Why did you send messengers to Baal
Zebu, the God of Akron to ask whether

you will recover, is there no God
in Israel to answer your question.

Therefore, because you have done this, you
will never leave the bed you are lying on.

You will surely die.

So Aah died.

Just as the Lord had promised
through Elijah, since Eiah did

not have a son to succeed him, his
brother, ham became the next king.

This took place in the second
year of the Reign of Jehoram, son

of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah.

The rest of the events in a
Isaiah's reign and everything he

did are recorded in the book of
the History of the Kings of Israel.
