Why can you be completely new in Christ and still sometimes feel like the person you used to be?
In Episode Six of The New Man, Sione explores Paul’s instruction in Ephesians 4 to lay aside the old man, be renewed in the spirit of your mind and put on the new man created according to God. Your identity has already changed, but thoughts, reactions and desires learned in your former life can remain like old clothing - familiar, but no longer belonging to you.
When fear, condemnation, offence or an old habit returns, its arrival does not make it part of your identity. You do not need to negotiate with it, condemn yourself or question whether the new birth worked. Through the Word and the Holy Spirit, you can recognise what is foreign, lay it down and train your outward life to agree with what grace has already placed within you.
You are not trying to become the new man. You are learning to live from the new man God has already created. Lay down the old garment, leave it there and keep walking.
