So why did Elon Musk and dozens of other tech leaders sign an open letter to AI labs to take a breath on development of systems that can compete with human intelligence? The letter asks if AI might –and I’m quoting here—outnumber, outsmart, obsolete and replace us [unquote]. The letter calls for an immediate 6-month pause on the training of AI systems more powerful than GPT-4. It also says AI with human intelligence poses profound risks to society and humanity.
