Sermons

After Easter, when the Hallelujahs fade and the lilies wilt, real life comes rushing back in. Bills still arrive. Diagnoses still come. Relationships still strain. And somewhere along the way, we’ve learned to lean on phrases that sound biblical…but aren’t – things to which Jesus would respond, “I never said that.” Over time, cultural clichés have been baptized into church language. They sound spiritual. They feel comforting. But sometimes they subtly reshape our understanding of God. They can leave us discouraged, confused, or even disillusioned when life doesn’t cooperate.

This series gently, pastorally peels back four popular Christian phrases and asks: What did God actually say? Not to embarrass. Not to scold. But to restore clarity…to replace bumper-sticker theology with living truth – because what God actually says is better. Deeper. More honest. And far more hope-filled. “God Helps Those Who Help Themselves” based on the scripture from Jeremiah 17:5-9.
