The Longhorn Way

In this powerful episode of The Longhorn Way, Michael sits down with Malcolm Holland, the dynamic CEO and founder of Veritex Community Bank. From growing up in Hawaii and playing competitive tennis to taking bold risks in the banking world, Malcolm shares the whole arc of his entrepreneurial journey, including how he built Veritex from scratch after losing everything in the 2009 financial collapse.

Listeners will hear Malcolm’s firsthand account of:
  • Starting a bank at just 25 years old with a yellow legal pad and a calculator
  • Using his late mother-in-law’s inheritance to bet on himself and build Veritex
  • Navigating the S&L crisis, the Great Recession, and COVID with leadership rooted in honesty, faith, and grit
  • How relationships, not just numbers, are the true currency in banking
  • The evolution of Longhorn's relationship with Veritex—from a $1M startup credit line to a $211M syndicated facility
Malcolm also shares his leadership philosophy, why transparency matters most during tough times, and what it truly means to build a people-first culture in banking.

If you're an entrepreneur, investor, or just someone looking for an inspiring story about resilience, this is an episode you don't want to miss.
