"Breitenbush Rose from the Ashes" tells the story of devastation & resilience. Wildfires devastated the Santiam Canyon in Oregon in September of 2020, including the community and retreat center north of Detroit called Breitenbush Hot Springs. Built in the 1970s by a small group of people guided by a set of principles, this story shares the beginnings, personal experiences of resident-workers during & after the fire, and the vision for the future of this iconic community and retreat center. This story was produced for KMUZ radio in 2023, in conjunction with the 3 year anniversary of the fire.
