कश्चन अतीवसुन्दरः विवाहयोग्यः च राजकुमारः अश्वारूढः सन् वनमार्गेण गच्छन् आसीत् । तदा एका सुन्दरी युवतिः दृष्टा यां सः परिणेतुम् इष्टवान् । राजा तां सुन्दरीम् आनाय्य यदा विवाहस्य प्रस्तावं कृतवान् तदा सा सुन्दरी निराकृतवती । पुनः पुनः रजकुमारेण निवेदिते सति सा अङ्गीकृतवती । किन्तु सप्ताहं यावत् प्रतीक्षां करोतु इति अवदत् सा । अनतरं तया या परीक्षा कृता तेन राजकुमारस्य ज्ञानोदयः जातः । सः प्रतिज्ञाम् अकरोत् यत् कदापि जीवने शारीरकाकर्षणेन इन्द्रियाकर्षणेन वा प्रलोभितः न भविष्यामि इति । तत्पश्चात् सः संसारे वैराग्यं प्राप्य विरक्तः जातः ।
