Just two generations after David, they are immersed in idolatry.

"Be careful not to ignore God’s concerns like Solomon, for the tragedy can be immense. The kingdom is torn from Solomon’s son as predicted (11:12), and the decline continues. Jeroboam is the leader chosen by God (11:37) but still, he turns away from Him. Chapter 13 and 14 are on the dramatic circumstances God uses, to draw Jeroboam back to Him. It’s a tragedy, but two generations after David, the north and south are immersed in idols. "
