In 2022, several international organizations worked together to highlight the impact of human trafficking in a report called
Global Estimates of Modern Slavery. They estimate that in 2021, 27.6 million people around the world were in forced labor. Experts suggest that the impact of human trafficking can be difficult to measure due to the “hidden nature of the crime,”
among other reasons.
