What's good, Everybody? I am DJ Whippopatomus and you are listening to WKNC 88.1 FM HD-1 Raleigh. We are a student run nonprofit radio station based at a North Carolina State university. Here with me today is the lovely Sunny, who recently dropped their album Blue Jeans. What's good with you? How you doing?

00:24
Sunny
Good, how are you?

00:25
DJ Whippopatomus
Good, good. I'm really excited to have you in here.

00:27
Sunny
Yeah. Nice to finally sit down and meet you.

00:30
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah, yeah. And chat a little bit. We've been in contact in the DMs. Just, you know, about music. Really, just business. So it's nice to finally get a chance to get to know you.

00:39
Sunny
Yeah. Thank you for having me.

00:40
DJ Whippopatomus
Of course. Yeah. First off, can you introduce yourself? Tell people where you're from, what you do, all that?

00:46
Sunny
Of course. My name is Sunny. I'm a singer, songwriter, recording artist and producer. I am based in North Carolina. I was born in Durham, North Carolina.

00:57
DJ Whippopatomus
Okay. Hell yeah.

00:58
Sunny
And shout out.

00:59
DJ Whippopatomus
Bull City.

01:01
Sunny
Bull City. And yeah, I just put out my third album last year, Blue Jeans. Word.

01:10
DJ Whippopatomus
Okay.

01:10
Sunny
Yeah.

01:11
DJ Whippopatomus
Oh, yeah. So how long have you been making music? Wow.

01:17
Sunny
Well, I started producing when I was 15. But I think I was writing a little bit before that, so probably like 13. But I started like producing when I was 15. Then I put out my first song when I was like maybe 19.

01:31
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah, what was that like?

01:34
Sunny
It was interesting. I don't. The first song that I ever put out, I was actually supposed to pitch it to an artist. I won't say the name.

01:44
DJ Whippopatomus
Sure.

01:44
Sunny
But I pitched it and they didn't like it, so I kept it for myself.

01:50
DJ Whippopatomus
Okay.

01:50
Sunny
But that wasn't really the first song that I knew that I had something.

01:54
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah.

01:55
Sunny
I think it was the second song. It was called Sex on the Brain.

01:59
DJ Whippopatomus
Okay.

01:59
Sunny
And yeah, that's when I knew I was really good at producing.

02:04
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah.

02:04
Sunny
Writing and stuff.

02:06
DJ Whippopatomus
So are you still producing?

02:08
Sunny
Yeah, I'm working on a record right now.

02:10
DJ Whippopatomus
Word?

02:11
Sunny
Yeah. But I'm working with another producer. His name is Michael Rumpel.

02:15
DJ Whippopatomus
Okay. Yeah.

02:16
Sunny
And I got some beats from some other people and then I did some production on there as well. So excited about that too.

02:25
DJ Whippopatomus
What about your last album? Did you get a chance to produce any of that?

02:29
Sunny
Yes, I produced the title track, blue jeans. 100% wrote it. Word, not yout Baby Girl. There's a few that I did 100% on there.

02:40
DJ Whippopatomus
Oh, yeah.

02:41
Sunny
And then there are others that.

02:42
DJ Whippopatomus
That's a grind for real producing. It can be growing. At least it seems. I really never Got into it.

02:47
Sunny
Yeah.

02:47
DJ Whippopatomus
How is it for you, though?

02:49
Sunny
I like it. I think that I am a better writer.

02:54
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah.

02:55
Sunny
Than a producer. I just kind of feel like you have to have, like, a lot of skills to just to be like. To say, like, you're top notch, but. Yeah, but I thoroughly enjoy producing. Always have.

03:12
DJ Whippopatomus
That's dope.

03:12
Sunny
Yeah.

03:14
DJ Whippopatomus
So is there a story behind your name, Sonny?

03:19
Sunny
Actually, yeah, a little bit.

03:21
DJ Whippopatomus
Love to hear it.

03:23
Sunny
Well, people just would come up to me and be like, oh, you have a really light energy to you. And always wanted to give me a hug.

03:33
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah, yeah.

03:36
Sunny
Just always said that, oh, I can tell you're gonna be a star one day. And just thought that was weird.

03:43
DJ Whippopatomus
But I feel you.

03:44
Sunny
I had a dream one day that somebody kept yelling Sunny. Like, calling really Sunny. Yeah.

03:50
DJ Whippopatomus
Oh, that's dope.

03:52
Sunny
And just woke up one day and called myself son.

03:57
DJ Whippopatomus
You were?

03:57
Sunny
Yeah.

03:58
DJ Whippopatomus
I love that. Came to you in a dream.

04:00
Sunny
Yeah.

04:01
DJ Whippopatomus
So how would you describe your music? Does it fit any type of genre or sub genre or is it just too. Too great for those labels?

04:11
Sunny
Right. I don't like to label my music.

04:14
DJ Whippopatomus
Right.

04:14
Sunny
But I think if I were. I used to label it, like, alternative pop, but then I started rapping and stuff.

04:22
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah, yeah. A lot of times I was talking about this with Chaos, who I interviewed yesterday. They were. Yeah, yeah. It was a really fun interview. Yeah. They were saying that they use rap more as a tool than as like their genre. That's really interesting to hear.

04:38
Sunny
Yeah, I would say I can agree with that.

04:42
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah.

04:43
Sunny
Because I feel like some people just rap to be like. To call themselves a rapper. And then some people rap as an outlet.

04:52
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah, exactly.

04:53
Sunny
And I would say that I rap for an outlet. I think rapping is like a really cool way to express myself.

04:59
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah, yeah, that's dope. So you were saying, like, alternative pop. Ish.

05:04
Sunny
Yeah. But listening to it, you would probably think, like, people would probably label it as pop because people love putting people into boxes. Exactly. So they can digest it. But also a lot of people who listen to my music, they don't really like, resonated. Resonate with it like, immediately.

05:22
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah.

05:23
Sunny
So I wouldn't say that it's hard to digest and that I'm not, like, palatable.

05:28
DJ Whippopatomus
Right.

05:28
Sunny
But I do think that my music is different in that.

05:31
DJ Whippopatomus
Oh, yeah.

05:32
Sunny
It takes people a little bit longer to kind of be like, oh, what is.

05:36
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah, yeah. Sometimes I gotta listen to an album two or three times before. Like, I'm like, okay, yeah. Like, I can really start to Vibe with it. Yeah. It's your album Blue Jeans. It is a real different sound. There's a lot of different layers to it. Was there any type of inspiration behind the album?

05:54
Sunny
Well, I knew I wanted to make a R and B rap record.

06:02
DJ Whippopatomus
That's dope.

06:03
Sunny
And also, like, reinventing myself. I did it with my first and second album where I had, like, alter egos. And so.

06:17
DJ Whippopatomus
Word.

06:19
Sunny
I didn't know what to name this particular alter ego, but I ended up naming them Blue Jeans.

06:26
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah. Yeah.

06:28
Sunny
Because I wanted to make, like, a classic, timeless album, which Blue Jeans are like, you know, classic and timeless. You can pair jeans with anything.

06:37
DJ Whippopatomus
Right.

06:37
Sunny
And then I just kind of took that and applied it to the art and stuff like that, with the denim and.

06:44
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah, that's dope. So your first two albums, are they on platforms?

06:49
Sunny
Yes, Platforms, Sexuality and Sunny speaking.

06:55
DJ Whippopatomus
I gotta find those.

06:56
Sunny
Yeah.

06:59
DJ Whippopatomus
Oh, and your cover art is fire, by the way, for Blue Jeans. Is there any story behind that or who helped you design that?

07:08
Sunny
I designed it and actually shot it myself.

07:11
DJ Whippopatomus
Okay.

07:13
Sunny
In my friend's garage.

07:15
DJ Whippopatomus
Hey, it's clean. You don't even know.

07:17
Sunny
Thank you. But I think that in the sense of, like, burying it all on the COVID was, like, me trying to invite people in, like. Like, to what I view as, like, freedom and expression, freedom and creativity, whatever it is. It wasn't just me being naked on the COVID Yeah. Which people probably think it is, but.

07:45
DJ Whippopatomus
No, it's a powerful image, honestly.

07:47
Sunny
Thank you.

07:48
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah. I mean, I'm sure it moves a lot of people.

07:50
Sunny
Yeah. Some people were offended, but.

07:53
DJ Whippopatomus
Come on.

07:54
Sunny
It's. Whatever. No, they were.

07:56
DJ Whippopatomus
No, I bet they were all good, though. Maybe one day, though. Maybe.

08:01
Sunny
We'll see. I'm not waiting for them.

08:04
DJ Whippopatomus
Oh, no. Facts. For real. They have to catch up. They have a long way to go, too. You just. You were in a music video recently with. Let me know if I'm saying his name right. Is it Kamus?

08:17
Sunny
Kamus Leonardo.

08:19
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah. For Lush. The song Lush. That was a nice music video.

08:22
Sunny
Thank you. That's my brother.

08:23
DJ Whippopatomus
Oh, word.

08:24
Sunny
Well, not my real bird.

08:25
DJ Whippopatomus
Ok.

08:25
Sunny
But I call him my brother.

08:26
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah.

08:26
Sunny
Facts. But I love him dearly. And that music video was insane.

08:32
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah. What was it like shooting that? Seemed like there's a lot of production that went into it.

08:36
Sunny
It was. But were working with a really small crew. Yeah. And what is his name? Dang it. He's gonna kill me. But I know his last name is Barefoot.

08:52
DJ Whippopatomus
Okay.

08:53
Sunny
Shout Out Barefoot and Michael R. And just a really small crew. But it was really quick. We shot it in, like, I want to say, like a half a day. I didn't have as many scenes as Kamus, but. Yeah, yeah, were just killing them scenes back to back.

09:13
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah, you were flying it, though.

09:15
Sunny
Thank you. Yeah, it was really fun to shoot.

09:17
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah, absolutely. So we're going to take a quick break. I want to play our listeners facts off of Sonny's latest album, Blue Jeans. We'll be right back. What's good, everybody? It is DJ Whoopotamus, and I'm still here with Sonny. And, yeah, I hope you all enjoyed that last song. And we're gonna get back into the interview now. So, yeah, I wanted to talk to you, actually, about your. Your latest song. Have you dropped it yet?

09:50
Sunny
Lush.

09:51
DJ Whippopatomus
Oh, that's. That's the one that you were trying to send me?

09:53
Sunny
Yes.

09:54
DJ Whippopatomus
Okay.

09:54
Sunny
That's the one word. Well, that's like one of my. It's a feature, but one of the latest.

09:59
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah. Yeah. That's tough. So what was it like recording that and working with Kamus?

10:07
Sunny
Yeah, so Kamus and I have known each other for about three years going for. And we did a couple of songs together, and he's working on his album and he wanted me to be on there, but he just didn't have a song at the moment. And so I got a call, like, randomly while I was in Cary, and he told me to come to the studio, and I was under the influence.

10:36
DJ Whippopatomus
Oh, yeah. Does that help you make music, or.

10:41
Sunny
Do you think sometimes. Yeah, I don't always have to be depending on. Yeah, I feel it doing anything, but sometime. So I got the call and I was like, sure, whatever. I wasn't thinking, like, I was gonna be doing anything crazy. So I came and he played me the song, and I was like, oh, yeah, this is crazy.

10:58
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah.

10:58
Sunny
And I wrote it in, like, five, ten minutes. Yeah, that's crazy. And then I recorded it, and that's kind of how, like, the video came about, because now they told me that I was, like, the highlight of the song. And so they kind of made my part more, like, luxurious and made it the climax, which I really enjoyed. It was really fun to make.

11:27
DJ Whippopatomus
Oh, yeah.

11:28
Sunny
And shout out to Kamus for putting me on there and for real. Yeah. Putting me in that type of light.

11:35
DJ Whippopatomus
Cause, yeah, that song is definitely a vibe.

11:37
Sunny
Thank you.

11:38
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah. So, yeah, the last time I seen you perform, first time I. I discovered you actually was at Jasmine Milan's Bad Kitty show. Yeah, you really left it all on the stage. You really went all out. I love you.

11:54
Sunny
Yeah. I love Jasmine. She's amazing and always creating opportunity for, you know.

12:01
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah.

12:02
Sunny
Other queer artists. Queer artists. And I just did Bad Kitty three. Were you at. Was it Bad Kitty two that you were at?

12:14
DJ Whippopatomus
Oh, it was three. It was the last.

12:15
Sunny
Oh, three, two. Awesome. So, yeah, I love.

12:19
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah, y' all were lit. Yeah, I loved it. That was, like, my first time getting exposed to, like, yalls crowd. Like, I've never seen any y' all before, so it was really exciting.

12:27
Sunny
Cool. Yeah. And I have a show coming up in Philly.

12:33
DJ Whippopatomus
Oh, for real?

12:34
Sunny
Yeah.

12:34
DJ Whippopatomus
When and where?

12:36
Sunny
So the. I can't say too much about it.

12:39
DJ Whippopatomus
Sure.

12:40
Sunny
But the show is called End Zone, and I think that Kate's Tequila, if you're familiar with them. It's a rapper.

12:50
DJ Whippopatomus
I don't think I am. No.

12:52
Sunny
Well, it's a rapper based in New York.

12:56
DJ Whippopatomus
Okay.

12:57
Sunny
And headlined the show.

13:01
DJ Whippopatomus
Word.

13:01
Sunny
Yeah. So I'm really excited about that. I love performing.

13:05
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah, Yeah, I can tell.

13:06
Sunny
Yeah.

13:06
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah. It's a whole different energy. Like, you're pretty calm right now, but, like, when you get on stage, is it. Are you, like, a different person?

13:12
Sunny
I am.

13:13
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah.

13:13
Sunny
Yeah, yeah. That's dope. I think. I mean, obviously, I get nervous before I perform.

13:20
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah. Yeah.

13:21
Sunny
But I think that kind of helps me, like, get into my bag.

13:26
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah. Facts. Yeah. And did you enjoy performing at the Fruit? Is that where a Bad Kitty usually is, or is it different?

13:34
Sunny
Yeah, no, Bad Kitty has always been at the food.

13:38
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah, that's dope. I love that. The welcoming atmosphere that they have there.

13:42
Sunny
Yes. A lot of different artists. Yeah.

13:45
DJ Whippopatomus
A lot of different genres.

13:47
Sunny
Yeah. And I'm glad that I could, you know, find a place to fit my crazy tail right into it. Yeah. And I. I thought that people were vibing with the music and. Yeah.

14:04
DJ Whippopatomus
Do you have any rituals before a show?

14:09
Sunny
I do, like, vocal exercises.

14:11
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah.

14:11
Sunny
Rehearsal. But I think more than anything, I just spend time alone.

14:18
DJ Whippopatomus
Okay.

14:19
Sunny
And try to center myself, focus. Not really think about too much, because when you overthink, like, performing and lyrics and stuff like that, you'll mess up. Yeah.

14:30
DJ Whippopatomus
For real.

14:31
Sunny
And. Yeah. So, like, getting out of my head, it makes me, like, more comfortable on stage.

14:39
DJ Whippopatomus
Is there any pregaming involved or you, like, keep a straight head?

14:42
Sunny
I might sometimes.

14:46
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah.

14:46
Sunny
I might take a shot, depending or two.

14:48
DJ Whippopatomus
I feel it. So I want to move into kind of your music journey, help our listeners just get to know you better as a person. So what was it like growing up in your hometown? You said you Claim Durham.

15:04
Sunny
Yes. I actually come from a musical family.

15:07
DJ Whippopatomus
Word. Okay.

15:09
Sunny
My mother was a singer and she was in a band, and she would take me to band rehearsals.

15:17
DJ Whippopatomus
That's lit.

15:17
Sunny
When I was a kid and to the recording studio. I loved it.

15:21
DJ Whippopatomus
Oh, yeah.

15:21
Sunny
That's where I kind of picked it up from. I was like, I want to be doing that.

15:28
DJ Whippopatomus
That's dope.

15:29
Sunny
But my mom kind of gave up her dream of being a singer for to raise me.

15:35
DJ Whippopatomus
Right, Right.

15:37
Sunny
And then my grandfather was a local jazz musician.

15:41
DJ Whippopatomus
Oh, hell, yeah. Out here in Durham?

15:43
Sunny
Yes.

15:43
DJ Whippopatomus
Oh, that's rich.

15:45
Sunny
Yeah. And he taught me how to play piano.

15:48
DJ Whippopatomus
You play piano?

15:50
Sunny
Yeah. You didn't know that?

15:51
DJ Whippopatomus
No.

15:53
Sunny
Yeah. I was actually trained in piano from ages 4 to 10.

15:57
DJ Whippopatomus
Damn.

15:58
Sunny
Yeah. And then you were young. I was very young.

16:01
DJ Whippopatomus
So is that, like, ingrained in your brain now?

16:03
Sunny
It is, yeah.

16:04
DJ Whippopatomus
Do you, like, forget how to play, like, a bike or. You can't forget how to ride a bike, but. Yeah.

16:08
Sunny
Well, I do. I mean, I'm a little rusty. Yeah. I need to wipe the dust off my piano.

16:16
DJ Whippopatomus
Always been fascinated by pianists or. How do you say.

16:19
Sunny
Yeah, Pianist. Yeah.

16:20
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah.

16:21
Sunny
It's.

16:21
DJ Whippopatomus
It's insane. I don't think my brain could ever grasp that.

16:25
Sunny
Yeah. But it's. I really want to learn how to play guitar, but it's so hard for some reason.

16:31
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah. Interesting.

16:32
Sunny
Yeah.

16:34
DJ Whippopatomus
So do you have roots anywhere else besides Durham?

16:39
Sunny
No, just Durham. I know. I have family in Australia.

16:44
DJ Whippopatomus
Oh, word.

16:45
Sunny
Yeah. I have family everywhere and maybe some family in Virginia.

16:52
DJ Whippopatomus
Okay.

16:53
Sunny
Different places.

16:54
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah. I feel that. How would you describe the scene? Or more so the community, the music community in the Triangle, at least from your perspective.

17:05
Sunny
Right. There are some really talented artists here, and I didn't know about many artists until I started doing some shows.

17:15
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah.

17:16
Sunny
And that's when I started linking up with different artists. But I think that it's very unique to just Durham in general. I think that, like, I feel like, you know how, like, Cole is just, like, this amazing artist, like, legend, super talented. Every artist that I've met from Durham or North Carolina has been like that, you know.

17:48
DJ Whippopatomus
Right.

17:49
Sunny
Like, I call myself the new Supreme.

17:51
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah.

17:51
Sunny
Because I feel like I'm on the rise to greatness.

17:53
DJ Whippopatomus
Oh, yeah.

17:54
Sunny
And I think that I'm a great artist, but, like, even my brother Kamus Leonardo.

17:58
DJ Whippopatomus
Like, yeah.

17:59
Sunny
Genius.

18:00
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah.

18:01
Sunny
An amazing rapper.

18:04
DJ Whippopatomus
A whole lot of talent out here. It's overwhelming sometimes. Like, as a dj, I'm trying to find, like, every local artist, and there's a lot of.

18:11
Sunny
Honestly, yeah.

18:12
DJ Whippopatomus
That's exciting.

18:13
Sunny
Yeah.

18:16
DJ Whippopatomus
So to get a little bit more personal, how would you describe your fashion sense for the viewer or the listeners that haven't seen you?

18:25
Sunny
Very. Colorful, Bright.

18:31
DJ Whippopatomus
Love it. Sunny, right?

18:33
Sunny
Yeah. I know my outfit at Bag Kitty was different.

18:39
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah, it was lit.

18:40
Sunny
I don't. Some pink heels and.

18:43
DJ Whippopatomus
That's right, that's right. Yeah. You got down on the floor at one point.

18:48
Sunny
Yeah. But I like to. I like to stand out. But I don't think that I like purposely think it out. I just kind of put on whatever makes me feel good.

18:58
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah, that's you.

19:00
Sunny
And if it looks random, then it looks random. Not. Sorry about it.

19:04
DJ Whippopatomus
I respect it.

19:05
Sunny
Yeah.

19:07
DJ Whippopatomus
So who did you listen to the most growing up?

19:11
Sunny
Wow. Well, my mom played so many different.

19:17
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah.

19:18
Sunny
Genres growing up. She played a lot of rap, like Biggie, Tupac, R B, Sade, Whitney Houston and Mary J. Blige. And then she played a lot of classic rock, alternative, which is where I kind of get some of my influence from. So, like, you'll listen to my music and hear like alternative references and R B. It's because I kind of like put it all together. But I love Journey, Sting and I even love country, like Nickelback, all of these. I love Hinder. I don't know if you've heard of the bit. Ban Hender.

DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah, yeah. Honestly, I'm pretty deep into hip hop. I try like being at the station. I've been exposed to a lot of genres, so I'm pretty thankful to be able to take that in and gain more appreciation for all that. Who are some of your favorite artists you listen to now?

20:18
Sunny
Right now I'm listening to a lot of R B artists like Snow Allegra.

20:24
DJ Whippopatomus
Word.

20:25
Sunny
I love Snow Allegra. I love her.

20:28
DJ Whippopatomus
I have to check her out.

20:30
Sunny
I know everybody's up on Money long right now. She has hours and hours song.

20:34
DJ Whippopatomus
Oh, for real?

20:35
Sunny
Yeah, but yeah, just I. I know that there's a lot of over saturation right now, but there are a lot of artists that are like actually writing their own music, producing their own music.

20:50
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah. I mean, we're talking to one. Thank you.

20:53
Sunny
Yeah.

20:53
DJ Whippopatomus
Though people, there's a lot of hidden gems out here.

20:56
Sunny
Yeah.

20:56
DJ Whippopatomus
And you just gotta look a little.

20:58
Sunny
Yeah.

20:58
DJ Whippopatomus
And show a little support. Show a little love.

21:00
Sunny
Yeah. But I love like finding artists that are like putting out original content because it's almost rare, honestly.

21:10
DJ Whippopatomus
For real.

21:11
Sunny
And I wish that was like put more in the mainstream, but guess we'll see.

21:16
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah, yeah. It's Always changing. I feel like a lot of people were still rapping about the same things. And maybe it's just me, but I'm getting a little bored and I'm looking for some different topics, different content. I really appreciate when artists show their vulnerability too. That's kind of what I've been leaning towards lately, but to learn a little bit more about you. What's your favorite place to eat around here? Just. Or in Carolina in general. It's gotta be local. No chains. Unless it's a local chain.

21:45
Sunny
I'm so bougie.

21:46
DJ Whippopatomus
Okay. Yeah, put us on.

21:48
Sunny
I'm so bougie. I like really fancy places like Fleming's or.

21:54
DJ Whippopatomus
Okay. Grill or Fleming's. Where's that at?

21:57
Sunny
Fleming's is right up here.

21:58
DJ Whippopatomus
Okay. I thought so.

21:59
Sunny
And by Crabtree.

22:01
DJ Whippopatomus
Okay. In Raleigh.

22:03
Sunny
Yeah.

22:04
DJ Whippopatomus
What do you like to get there?

22:06
Sunny
Typical. Lobster and steak.

22:09
DJ Whippopatomus
Okay.

22:12
Sunny
But yeah, I love that. And Italian food.

22:15
DJ Whippopatomus
Word. Okay.

22:15
Sunny
Yeah, I love sushi too.

22:16
DJ Whippopatomus
Oh, yeah.

22:17
Sunny
If you know any good sushi places, let me know.

22:19
DJ Whippopatomus
Oh, yeah, I do, actually, in South Point in Durham, we go to Shiki Sushi.

22:24
Sunny
A lot of that.

22:25
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah. You know Shiki? Oh, hell yeah. Yeah, it's our go to. We live right by there.

22:28
Sunny
Oh, cool.

22:30
DJ Whippopatomus
And there was a place in Raleigh. It's a bit more bougier and they had, like, a unique offering. I've been to a lot of sushi places. I can't remember the name, but I had some. Some squid ink rice. Like, I don't know. It was really. I like trying different things.

22:44
Sunny
Oh, cool.

22:45
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah. So are you a pet person? If so, what's your favorite pet? If you could have any pet.

22:52
Sunny
Actually have a dog. Yeah. Radio.

22:54
DJ Whippopatomus
Okay. Are you a dog person? Over. Cat person?

22:58
Sunny
Yes.

22:58
DJ Whippopatomus
Okay. Radio. Yeah, that's cute. What kind of dog?

23:01
Sunny
He's a Doberman.

23:03
DJ Whippopatomus
Oh, okay.

23:03
Sunny
A winter dog mix. So he's like a mini Doberman.

23:06
DJ Whippopatomus
Oh, I see. I see. Oh, he must have a lot of energy.

23:09
Sunny
He has a lot of energy. He's very feisty.

23:12
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah.

23:12
Sunny
Territorial.

23:13
DJ Whippopatomus
How old is he?

23:15
Sunny
He's six.

23:16
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah.

23:16
Sunny
Yeah. I've had him since I was like, 18. Yeah, something like that.

23:22
DJ Whippopatomus
Does he make friends easily with other dogs?

23:29
Sunny
So I don't think so. I think he has to warm up to dogs.

23:33
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah, my dogs hit or miss a lot of times. What about people?

23:40
Sunny
Same.

23:41
DJ Whippopatomus
Yes.

23:41
Sunny
He's just like me.

23:43
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah.

23:43
Sunny
Got to warm up to people and other cats.

23:45
DJ Whippopatomus
I feel that. No, for real.

23:48
Sunny
Yeah.

23:49
DJ Whippopatomus
And I got one more question before we close things out. How Many hours of sleep do you get a night?

23:58
Sunny
Depends on what I'm doing the night before, so probably five or six.

24:04
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah.

24:04
Sunny
Yeah.

24:05
DJ Whippopatomus
Is that when you're turning up or is that just usual?

24:09
Sunny
I'm so random. I'm either turning up or I can't sleep and I'm writing.

24:15
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah. Yeah. Okay. So you stay up and write a lot?

24:18
Sunny
Yeah, I'm a night owl.

24:19
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah. Okay. Okay.

24:20
Sunny
It's not good, though.

24:21
DJ Whippopatomus
No.

24:22
Sunny
Anyone listening, please get at least 5.5 hours of sleep or more. Nothing less, or you're going to have health issues.

24:29
DJ Whippopatomus
We don't want you to know for real how sleep is crazy. Honestly. Yeah, I get my full 8. I can't help it. I tried going down just so I could work on stuff and be.

24:40
Sunny
In a radio station. That's insane.

24:42
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah, it is kind of crazy. Oh, you know, I get a little help.

24:48
Sunny
Yeah. But I think I have to get used to not getting any sleep if I'm gonna be an artist, cuz.

24:55
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah, I feel it. I feel it.

24:57
Sunny
Schedule is crazy.

24:58
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah. Not enough time nowadays.

25:00
Sunny
No time at all.

25:01
DJ Whippopatomus
I feel like everyone's experiencing that. Just like always feel like you're running out of time to do things.

25:07
Sunny
Well, there's actually a theory that the older that you get, the more time is kind of flashing by.

25:16
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah. Interesting.

25:18
Sunny
Yeah, I was just reading that the other day.

25:20
DJ Whippopatomus
So time is really running out.

25:23
Sunny
Yeah.

25:23
DJ Whippopatomus
Don't panic, everybody. It's okay.

25:26
Sunny
It is.

25:26
DJ Whippopatomus
You can do is. Man, what's 2032 going to be like? These are the things I think about.

25:34
Sunny
I don't think we'll exist.

25:36
DJ Whippopatomus
Yeah, I feel you. I'll be on that way. All right, so I'm gonna start closing things out. Is there anything else you'd like to let the listeners know about you or any upcoming projects?

25:50
Sunny
Well, I'm working on a new project. It's called Pop Star Icon.

25:54
DJ Whippopatomus
Oh, okay.

25:54
Sunny
Yeah. So it's kind of like a continuation of the song that I put out called Pop Star Icon.

26:01
DJ Whippopatomus
That song was fire.

26:02
Sunny
Thank you. And it kind of has like this futuristic vibe going on. I can't wait to put it out.

26:08
DJ Whippopatomus
Hell, yeah.

26:09
Sunny
