This week on The Weekly Recharge, we’re covering several major e-bike industry stories, including proposed new tariffs, stricter battery safety standards, Florida’s vetoed e-bike speed limit bill, a wild 30A fast charger, and Rad Life Mobility’s acquisition of QuietKat.
The USTR has announced proposed new tariffs that could affect major bike industry source countries, potentially adding 10–12.5% tariffs on goods from dozens of countries. We break down what that could mean for the bike industry and why PeopleForBikes is encouraging industry members to submit comments.
We also look at the CPSC’s proposal for stricter UL testing standards, including updates related to tamper-resistant battery packs, safer charging protections, reverse-polarity testing, and lithium-ion battery safety.
Plus, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis vetoed SB 382, the bill that would have created a 10 MPH e-bike speed limit when riding within 50 feet of pedestrians.
