At its most basic, whiskey is distilled beer. And yet, beer makers and whiskey makers rarely share information, techniques and ingredients.
In recent years, some brewers and whiskey makers are taking inspiration from beer, using craft beer ingredients like specialty malts and different yeast strains, to make more interesting base beer that is then distilled to new styles of beer. And others are completing the circle by aging whiskey in former beer barrels.
