From The Torch Podcast Network, This is The Chimes Weekly. I’m Matthew, here to start off your week with major headlines and what’s coming up. It’s Monday, April 13. On Wednesday, April 1st, SGA announced the results of this year’s elections. Jackson Hibbard was elected as Student Body President with Lucas Brown as his Vice President, alongside 7 at-large senators. Hibbard and Brown ran uncontested, and this year they exceeded the threshold of votes needed to be elected, unlike last year. Some of their stated goals for next year include better use of contingency funds to support student-led initiatives and increasing accessibility to administration. This is what Vice President-elect Lucas Brown had to say… For more information on Biola’s Student Government Association, be sure to check out our bonus episode tomorrow. I interviewed current president TJ Malley to ask about his experience as president, changes in SGA that were made this year, advice for next year's administration, and how students can get involved. On Monday, April 6, the men’s and women’s tennis teams advanced to the PacWest Conference Championship. The championship will take place from Wednesday, April 15, to Friday, April 17. The tennis teams will be traveling all the way to Surprise, Arizona, but make sure to cheer for your fellow Biolans from home!. Here is Junior business administration major and co-captain of the men’s team, Thiago Canessa, on how the team is feeling as they head to the championships: Earlier this semester, Biola students through the Winsome Conviction Project engaged in a five-week dialogue via Zoom with students from a Brigham Young University (BYU) class to discuss constructive religious dialogue. On Mar. 10-13, the Winsome Conviction Project held an interfaith dialogue course between Biola and Brigham Young University. The course, which was highly rated by students from both institutions, focused on communication skills like perspective-taking and reflective listening. Students engaged in breakout rooms and in-person activities, fostering deeper understanding while also recognizing theological disagreements. The goal is to continue dialogue that emphasizes sensitivity and respect, as well as fulfill the Great Commission through ongoing conversations. Dr. Tim Muelhoff, the director of the Winsome Conviction Project, when asked about his experience with leading the course, said: That’s all for last week’s headlines. Trueman to give a guest lecture titled “All That Is Sacred Must Be Profaned.” This lecture will take place at Cavalry Chapel. Dr. Trueman is the author of “The Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self” and speaks about the increasing influence of individualism on our modern culture. This Wednesday at 7 PM, the Conservatory of Music will be hosting the Pop Ensembles in Concerts, which is presented by Worship Arts and Commercial Music. Come see the pop ensembles as they perform along the SUB walkway to songs from pop icons like Michael Jackson, Bruno Mars, The Beatles, Bee Gees, and Ed Sheeran. This event is free to attend. This weekend, on Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th, the Center for Marriage and Relationships will be hosting the 2026 Biola Couples Conference: “All I Sea Is Love.” This two-day conference is for seriously dating, engaged, and newly married couples who want to grow in a love that is learned, practiced, and navigated—together. This conference helps couples move beyond feelings alone and develop the skills needed for lasting, Christ-centered relationships. Through teaching, stage-specific breakout sessions, guided reflection, and a live panel discussion with Dr. Chris Grace, Alisa Grace, and Willa Williams, couples will explore key relationship dynamics, including communication, family of origin, conflict, and spiritual intimacy. Whether you are dating, engaged, or married, this weekend is designed to equip you with practical tools and shared language to strengthen your relationship and stay anchored in Christ! For more information on schedule and ticket pricing, please see the link in our show notes. At 7:30 p.m. this Saturday, the Symphonic Winds is hosting its annual POPS concert at Ethel Lee Auditorium.
