On this first Sunday in the new year, I will begin the message by asking a very personal question. The question is "How do you face the new year?" Many of us would have to admit that we cannot explain much of what has happened in our past. The present is even more difficult to understand. But when we think about the future, we all would agree that we cannot foresee what's ahead for any of us. However, the Bible gives us some excellent guidelines at this point. The scriptural reference for today is Luke 15:11-32 -- a familiar story. This year holds some unexpected blessings, and, of course, some trials that we couldn't anticipate. But God is already out there in the future. This should give us all great hope.
