The presence of fire in the forest isn’t new.  Before the 1800s, millions of acres burned in California every year. That was before European settlers chose to outlaw fires set by Native Americans. Unfortunately, this lack of fire has created new problems, one of which being an excess of fuels and debris in our forests.

KVMR’s Al Stahler speaks with Rita Clipperton, a prescribed fire and fuel specialist with the Tahoe National Forest service, about a number of fuel reduction tactics.
