Wednesday Coffee Club

Beth asked about using a cassette recorder with Jaws.

Doug talked about the Orbit Writer. This is a Braille keyboard without a display. The device can be paired with 5 different bluetooth devices as well as a USB device. This product can be purchased from AT Guys or Guidelights and Gadgets for $99.00. Guidelights and Gadgets sell the device with a carrying case and training material produced by Lisa Salinger.

Bard sending free displays to people in Kentucky, Ohio, Utah, and Iowa. Can be paired with a PC or used as a stand alone device to read NLS books.
Chris and Dave talked about safety devices in the home. Fall is a good time to change batteries in smoke detectors. Many new smoke detectors have at least a 2 year battery life. Be sure to change filters in your furnace and test it. If you can't do it yourself, it's a good idea to get a contract with a company to have it serviced at least twice a year. Talked about fire extingishers. They purchased a First Alert multipurmose extingisher rated for the kitchen. At least 2 or 3 pounds should be adequate.

Receptacles in laundry rooms and bathrooms should be GFI receptacles. (Ground fault interrupter) if there is an issue with something plugged into them, it turns the plug off.
Be sure to have good oven mitts. Good time to have items to help with ice for winter. Shoe chains help on ice. They are coated so you can walk on the floors in the house with them on. Chris gave a recipe for pork loin with cranberry sauce made in the crockpot.
