The Clerisy

Most Americans don’t fit neatly into the red-vs.-blue political divide, and Pew’s latest political typology helps explain why. Let's break down the nine groups that actually make up the American electorate, why the loudest ideological camps dominate the conversation, and how a much larger middle holds a mix of views that neither party fully represents.

What is The Clerisy?

"The Clerisy" with Loren Moss comes out of a simple proposition: If we encourage thinking, we will have a more thoughtful society. Peter Bernstein was right when he said "The riskiest moment is when you think you're right," and thus we hope to introduce heterodox thinking to the debate that typically peddles a defective and false "left vs. right" dichotomy. This endeavor comes out of a sense of urgent responsibility: "If those who know why and how neglect to act, those who do not know will act, and the world will continue to flounder."- Alfred Korzybski, 1921
