Focal Point: the IMV imaging podcast

This month we chat all creatures great and small from 15g Poison Dart Frogs to 1 ton Rhinos with European Zoo Specialist, Dr. Simon Girling FRCVS. If you have ever wondered how a lameness investigation on a rhino is performed or the difficulties encountered with scanning the abdomen of a Binturong then tune in! We also hear more on Scottish conversation efforts for Eurasian Beavers and Scottish Wildcats as well as tips for creating a career in zoo medicine and conservation.

I have been all sorts of vet since I graduated in 2012; an intercalating research vet, a (very) rural mixed vet in Ireland, a farm vet, and then after surviving a brush with exotics and wildlife, I settled on becoming a small animal vet, mostly with probe in hand. With the superpower of “X-ray vision” at my fingertips and the platform to nurture the future generations of vets and nurses, the clinical-team-at-IMV vet that I get to be now has been my favourite type of vet so far. I am embarrassingly easily bribed by cake and coffee, and when I am not educating or probing, I am found in the mountains or in the water.

Hello. I am the Scottish one, and I graduated in 2006. After working in mixed practice for 8 years and small animal practice for 5 years, a love of technology, diagnostic imaging and explaining how things work led me to join IMV imaging in 2019. As part of the Clinical Team, I teach and create educational material, like this podcast… I apologise for that thing I said that was wrong, and I should be pun-ished for my terrible jokes.
