A good weekend for flying. Welcome to the Know the Difference Minute for Tuesday, September 6th. Air travel in 2022 has been hit and miss. Flight delays, labor shortages, and long lines made for some bumpy moments. But, with a long Labor Day holiday in the rear-view mirror, the airline industry is celebrating passenger traffic that was higher than before the pandemic. In all, TSA screened over 8.7 million travelers this weekend. More business travel would certainly help. Unfortunately, it’s stuck at the gate, between 25% and 30% below 2019 levels. Airlines love business customers who traditionally paid more and flew more—but that was pre-COVID. Conventions and other big meetings are slowly returning—but travel budgets are now being squeezed by substantially higher room rates. Business travel traditionally sees a peak in September and October. Airlines are about to find out whether that happens this year. I’m Dave Spano from Annex Wealth Management. That is your Know the Difference Minute.
