Israel Bible Podcast

In the final part of the conversation about Professor Shir's course Jewish Apostle Paul, we talk about the context of the church in Galatia. There are many problems with isolating one theological statement in the epistle to the Galatians and asking it to stand on its own. Everything is embedded in context. This week Professor Shir explains the seemingly anti-Torah teachings of Paul. We also touch on what mother goddesses, mountains, and Israelite matriarchs have to do with one another.

Show Notes

Some people read Galatians as an anti-Jewish letter, but the key to understanding Paul's message is rooted in the Galatian context. Galatian gentile believers wanted to be circumcised to become Jews. They felt that would give them something that they otherwise did not have, but Paul tried to dissuade them.
