Nebuchadnezzar captures king Zedekiah as he is fleeing Jerusalem. Zedekiah is made to watch his sons be killed, then his eyes are put out before he is taken to Babylon. Ten years later, Nebuchadnezzar's henchman, Nebuzaradan, burns the temple and all the great houses in Jerusalem. Then he hunts down some remaining influential men and takes them to Nebuchadnezzar, who has them put to death. A man named Gedaliah is set up as a vassal governor of the region, but he is killed by some of the royal offspring. The account then jumps about 25 years to tell us that Jehoiachin finds favor with a Babylonian king and is freed from prison and taken care of. Read from the World English Bible.
