शिल्पिनः चयनम्

कश्चित् राजा राजधान्याम् एकं भव्यं मन्दिरं निर्मातुं सङ्कल्पं कृतवान् । वृद्धः आस्थानशिल्पी राजानं यौवनशिल्पिनः चयनाय उपदिष्टवान् । राजा स्पर्धाम् आयोज्य उत्कृष्टं शिल्पं निर्मातुं शिल्पिनः आमन्त्रितवान् । तेषु शिवमूर्ति-धनपालाभ्यां निर्मितं शिल्पम् उत्कृष्टम् इति तु घोषितम्, किन्तु तयोः नाम न प्रकाशितम् । एतत् दृष्ट्वा धनपालः खिन्नः जातः, रात्रौ रहसि शिवमूर्तेः शिल्पं विरूपीकृतवान् । तस्य कृत्यं राज्ञा जनैः च रहसि दृष्टम् इति सः न ज्ञातवान् । अनन्तरदिने शिवमूर्तिः आस्थानशिल्पित्वेन नियुक्तः जातः । राजा उभयोः स्वभावं परीक्षितुं निर्मातृत्वेन तयोः नाम न प्रकाशितम् ।

A certain king decided to build a grand temple in his capital. An elderly court sculptor advised him to select young sculptors for the task. The king organized a competition and invited talented artists. Among them, the sculptures made by Shivamurti and Dhanapala were declared the best, but their names were kept anonymous. Feeling disappointed, Dhanapala secretly defaced Shivamurti’s sculpture at night, unaware that the king and others had witnessed his act. The next day, Shivamurti was appointed as the royal sculptor. The king had deliberately withheld the names to test the character of both artists, not just their skill.

सम्भाषणसन्देशः इति संस्कृतमासिकपत्रिका (https://sambhashanasandesha.in) । एतस्यां पत्रिकायां प्रकाशिताः लेखाः, कथाः, बालकथाः, वार्ताः इत्यादिकं सर्वम् अपि सरलसंस्कृतेन एव प्रकाश्यते । तत्रत्याः “बालमोदिनी”नामिकाः बालकथाः अत्र प्रसार्यन्ते । अतः अस्याः शृङ्खलायाः नाम अपि “बालमोदिनी” एव । लघु गात्रं, सरला भाषा च कथानां विशेषः । प्रत्येकं कथा काञ्चित् नीतिं बोधयति । बालकथाः आबालवृद्धं सर्वेषां प्रियाः । संस्कृतेन ताः श्रोतुम् उपलब्धाः भवन्तु इति एषः प्रयत्नः श्रोतृभ्यः अवश्यं रोचेत इति विश्वासः । संस्कृतक्षेत्रे संस्कृतेन पॉड्कास्ट् क्रियमाणाः एताः प्रप्रथमाः कथाः इति सगौरवम् उद्घोष्यते ।
