39 00:02:34.389 --> 00:02:35.740 The hope and who He is. 40 00:02:35.750 --> 00:02:39.100 And so as we, as we get there, we'll kind of start off with some reminders. 41 00:02:39.110 --> 00:02:43.729 Number one is this God gives commandments, not suggestions. 42 00:02:43.740 --> 00:02:46.860 All right, God's not in the suggestion business. 43 00:02:46.869 --> 00:02:49.720 God gives commandments not suggestions. 44 00:02:49.729 --> 00:02:58.945 Oftentimes we take the commandments of God and we treat them like the suggestions of God, meaning do I feel like I need to do this or not? 45 00:02:58.955 --> 00:03:08.074 And when we take the commandments of God and we transform them in our mind and our heart to the suggestions of God, what we do in that is we sin. 46 00:03:08.134 --> 00:03:16.785 That's where we, we refine where we are God gives commandments, not suggestions and the Bible is filled with them, right? 47 00:03:16.794 --> 00:03:22.164 The Bible is filled with them, an example that I thought of, at least personally, for me, let me pick on me, maybe not on you. 48 00:03:22.580 --> 00:03:27.619 Things that I often like to take as commandments and make them as suggestions is in the concept of forgiving. 49 00:03:27.770 --> 00:03:29.070 I love to be forgive. 50 00:03:29.080 --> 00:03:30.910 I'm so glad that God forgives me. 51 00:03:30.919 --> 00:03:40.029 But God's word also calls us Jesus says repeatedly over and over again, specifically in Matthew six and Matthew 18 that we are called to forgive. 52 00:03:40.039 --> 00:03:42.910 We are called to forgive as we have been forgiven. 53 00:03:42.919 --> 00:03:46.815 That the commandment, not the suggestion that the Lord gives us. 54 00:03:46.826 --> 00:03:53.466 But oftentimes, even though that I know that's a commandment as I wrestle with that in my being of who I am, I want to choose. 55 00:03:53.475 --> 00:04:00.386 I want to treat that as the suggestion as this is what God would want me to do, but I'm not ready for it yet. 56 00:04:00.395 --> 00:04:01.595 And that's just ok. 57 00:04:01.606 --> 00:04:03.356 But the truth is, it's not ok. 58 00:04:03.365 --> 00:04:03.695 OK. 59 00:04:04.162 --> 00:04:04.542 Right. 60 00:04:04.552 --> 00:04:10.481 It's the commandment of God of what God calls me to forgive as he has forgiven me. 61 00:04:10.492 --> 00:04:13.602 That's the call God gives commandments, not suggestions. 62 00:04:13.611 --> 00:04:19.440 And in these commandments, I think it's healthy that we take a step back and look at these commandments of the Lord. 63 00:04:19.451 --> 00:04:40.149 We view commandments oftentimes as restrictions or punishments, right, that God is going to give me this list of rules as restrictions on my life and then they limit to my detriment, the things that I want to do or the things that I can do or the things that I choose to do that. 64 00:04:40.160 --> 00:04:50.209 It's like God walking in on the first day of school and getting all the students sat down and said, ok, here's what you can and cannot do, right? 65 00:04:51.720 --> 00:04:54.329 But that's not at all how we're to view God's commands. 66 00:04:55.160 --> 00:05:07.619 What I want us to see when we see God's commands, that we understand this, that God's commands are for His glory and for our good, the commandments of God are for His glory. 67 00:05:08.230 --> 00:05:13.809 And therefore our good repeatedly over and over in the old Testament. 68 00:05:13.820 --> 00:05:24.440 What we will see is God command His people for something and then He'll say something like and to set you apart or for my name's sake or so that you will be a holy people. 69 00:05:25.029 --> 00:05:29.549 God saying that I'm not giving this to you to restrict you. 70 00:05:29.559 --> 00:05:32.390 I'm not giving this to you to punish you. 71 00:05:32.399 --> 00:05:39.839 I'm not giving this to you so that you can't experience joy, but I'm giving this to you for my name's sake. 72 00:05:41.799 --> 00:05:47.209 So that as people see, as people hear, they'll give glory to me. 73 00:05:48.519 --> 00:05:57.500 And so we see this with forgiveness, we forgive for God's glory, but they don't deserve it, but they're not the object. 74 00:05:57.510 --> 00:06:02.559 It's, it's God and we, we forgive for His glory and for for his name, right? 95 00:07:29.799 --> 00:07:53.609 It has control over me, it has control over my thoughts, it has control over my emotions, it has control over how I treat others that aren't even connected to this And so as I forgive, it's good for my heart, but it's good for my freedom because now that person or that thing that has now I've moved past from no longer have control over me, right? 96 00:07:53.739 --> 00:07:59.160 And so this is just some examples of what we see that God gives commandments, not suggestions. 97 00:07:59.170 --> 00:08:02.209 And God's commandments are for His glory and our good. 98 00:08:02.220 --> 00:08:09.510 So that when we obey God, God is glorified and it is good for us. 99 00:08:10.510 --> 00:08:12.829 It may not manifest itself immediately. 100 00:08:12.839 --> 00:08:18.799 This isn't some prosperity gospel message that we just do good and then good and good and good and good. 101 00:08:18.809 --> 00:08:27.239 But as we do as, as we, as we obey God, what we, what we understand, it's for our good, for the work that He's that he's doing in us. 102 00:08:27.829 --> 00:08:33.169 And so what we've seen so far through Genesis is, is God is giving commands. 103 00:08:33.179 --> 00:08:41.479 And I want to focus in on one of those before we get to Genesis 10 this morning, we'll go all the way back to Genesis one verse 28. 104 00:08:42.000 --> 00:09:05.869 This is God in the garden with Adam and Eve and this says, and God bless them and God said to them, be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have Dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth. 105 00:09:05.880 --> 00:09:09.669 And so when you see and God said to them, right this is the clue. 106 00:09:09.679 --> 00:09:12.710 This is that set that bell going off like this is a command. 107 00:09:12.929 --> 00:09:15.219 This is what God is telling them. 108 00:09:15.229 --> 00:09:20.099 Not suggesting to them be fruitful, multiply fill the earth. 109 00:09:20.109 --> 00:09:22.299 Now, just on a scale of 1 to 10. 110 00:09:22.309 --> 00:09:29.650 How good from, from what we've read early on in Genesis to where we are, are mankind about obeying God, right? 111 00:09:29.659 --> 00:09:31.260 Like not good, not good. 112 00:09:31.909 --> 00:09:41.080 So we, we see where they didn't obey and then generations didn't obey and then generations didn't obey. 113 00:09:41.229 --> 00:09:46.969 But in the glimmer of disobedience, we see things like Enoch and Enoch walked with the Lord, right? 114 00:09:47.710 --> 00:09:51.960 We see that Noah was a man of God who walked with the Lord. 115 00:09:52.760 --> 00:09:57.210 And so Noah and his family go on this faith journey with God, right? 116 00:09:57.900 --> 00:10:06.950 This huge faith journey on the ark, the destruction of the world of what we see of what God says he's going to do and he does it. 117 00:10:07.049 --> 00:10:18.385 And then at the end of this journey with them Genesis nine verse one and God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them be fruitful and multiply fill the earth, right? 118 00:10:18.395 --> 00:10:21.455 So like triggering us back, let's take us back, Genesis one, right? 119 00:10:21.465 --> 00:10:27.684 Some words are different, but the meaning is the same, be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth, right? 172 00:18:38.745 --> 00:18:45.202 And so what we're finding is much like where we would identify that we live in the middle lands of South Carolina. 173 00:18:45.212 --> 00:18:56.021 But there's the low country and then there's the upstate and then there's the rocky mountains and then there's the Gulf and there's the Panhandle and then there's up in the northeast, there's all of these things that define people by lands. 174 00:18:56.031 --> 00:19:04.261 And so we're seeing that here and it says that also they're divided by their clans, which means this, they're divided in some aspects by their family. 175 00:19:04.271 --> 00:19:06.281 Like, do you live in an area? 176 00:19:06.291 --> 00:19:10.369 Like some of us, we're from all over the place, right? 177 00:19:10.380 --> 00:19:18.530 Like there are people who are here that lived as far away in foreign lands like California and Washington, right? 178 00:19:19.959 --> 00:19:23.550 I know they're places we've heard of, but they're real and that's where they're from. 179 00:19:24.280 --> 00:19:41.930 But if you were to ask me, like, I've never lived farther than two hours from the town in which I was born and there may be some of you even in here who like for generations and generations and generations have called this little small part of South Carolina home. 180 00:19:42.630 --> 00:19:51.319 And so we see that there are clans and then this really cool word that we're gonna look at more specifically in the, in the future. 181 00:19:52.119 --> 00:19:56.890 There are nations, they're nations, right? 182 00:19:56.900 --> 00:20:06.040 And they look, so look at verse 32 these are the clans of the sons of Noah, according to their genealogies in their nations. 183 00:20:06.420 --> 00:20:15.239 And from these, the nations spread abroad on the earth after the flood. 184 00:20:15.939 --> 00:20:29.680 And so what we see here is this formation of, of nations and, and up until this point, the world of the Bible is a very unknown world for, for you. 185 00:20:29.689 --> 00:20:38.250 And I, what we've looked at and what we've experienced in these first nine chapters is not the world that, that we know. 186 00:20:38.260 --> 00:20:46.910 And there are still massive differences that from our world today and the world that we see in Genesis 10 and moving forward. 187 00:20:47.005 --> 00:20:58.385 But what we see now are these groups of people are starting to more resemble the world that we know and how they've gathered together. 188 00:20:58.484 --> 00:21:03.885 And then once they've done once they've gathered what they've done with that, right? 355 00:39:56.699 --> 00:40:01.699 Jesus is going to send us to the nations. 356 00:40:02.840 --> 00:40:04.530 Matthew 28 18 through 20. 357 00:40:05.540 --> 00:40:18.709 And Jesus came and said to him, all authority, all authority in heaven and on earth, we, we, we, we miss focusing on those words for just a moment. 358 00:40:19.739 --> 00:40:29.000 All authority on heaven and on earth, Jesus says has been given to me authority from the Father. 359 00:40:29.600 --> 00:41:07.419 All authority over every nation, every government, every kingdom, all authority I Jesus says, am over them all go there and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you and behold, I'm with you always to the ends of the age acts 18, but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you and you will be my witness in Jerusalem and Judea and Samaria and to the ends of the earth. 360 00:41:07.429 --> 00:41:19.226 And so God forms these nations and so that God can take His people and through the work of Christ that we can bless them, not with us and who we are in and of ourselves. 361 00:41:19.236 --> 00:41:27.795 But so that we can go in the name of Jesus Christ, the nations are formed and we are sent to them. 362 00:41:27.805 --> 00:41:31.706 And what we find in this, the last one is how does God glorify his name? 363 00:41:31.716 --> 00:41:38.355 Because peoples people group nations are saved and a kingdom is formed. 364 00:41:38.456 --> 00:41:46.872 There's this new kingdom, Jesus talks about his kingdom that he is forming, that he's building and it's not going to be kingdom that's marked by a language. 365 00:41:46.882 --> 00:41:49.312 It's not going to be a kingdom that's marked by a border. 366 00:41:49.322 --> 00:41:57.431 It's not going to be a kingdom that's formed by an earthly government, but it's going to be a kingdom that is formed and shaped under the lordship of Christ. 367 00:41:57.441 --> 00:42:10.031 And so Paul says this for, I'm not ashamed of the gospel for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes to the Jew first and also to the Greek or to the gentile. 368 00:42:10.041 --> 00:42:11.471 So who does this land on?
