Pest Control

Mrs. Domal,

I completely understand. I definitely didn't mean to overstep a boundary in this matter - I know your family has been through a lot and I did not mean to raise the specter of more difficult times. We of course want to continue to support Izzy's growth as a part of Troop #12. However, while it's true that the passage I attached (see previous email) was written as part of an assignment that was intended to engage the imagination of the troop members, I am worried that perhaps Izzy has taken the tenor of the question more materially than we expected from our scouts.

I have it on good authority from another scout that Izzy has mentioned multiple times that "the old high school is completely abandoned" and "if someone were going to break in, there would be no one there to catch them as long as they were careful of the cameras", and that she has "friends who would protect her, even if there were a ghost or a monster of if we stumbled into something bigger and stranger and more dangerous than we could even conceive at this moment", at which point the other scout raised concerns and Izzy allegedly told them to "be careful with whom [they] make enemies".

At the risk of overstepping once again, I must ask - has Izzy been to see anyone since everything happened? I speak for several of us when I say that we are concerned she may be fixated on ghosts and the supernatural due to unprocessed feelings over the unfortunate circumstances of your family's move out of Norfork. At the very least, it might be worthwhile to talk to these friends of hers, a pair of upperclassmen named "Ruby" Raine and "Mae" Harrison. If some of the scouts are to be believed, hanging around the two of them could inhibit some of Izzy's growth in the social arena.

All the best,
Stewart Earluy, Scoutmaster (Troop #12)

Pest Control is an actual-play tabletop horror RPG podcast produced in association with Queuetimes (@_queuetimes). Our second season uses “Monster of the Week”, a Powered by the Apocalypse system by Michael Sands and Evil Hat Productions. You can pick up a copy here.
Season two, “Norfork”, follows a trio of friends living in the edge-city of Norfork as the community adapts to the open presence of Myriads and the encroachment of The City.

What is Pest Control?

Pest Control is an actual-play horror tabletop show from AltHaven. Join Keeper Sam R, and players William, Jonas, and Sam D as they get lost in fantastical worlds featuring compelling characters, engaging story, and thrilling twists!

Season 1, "Fate", originally ran in 2019 as a livestream on the AltHaven (formerly Queuetimes) main YouTube channel. It uses the Monster of the Week game system. It follows a group of found-family monster Hunters as they set off on a journey across the United States, dealing with the creatures they encounter and drawing ever nearer to the end of the road...

Season 2, "Norfork", uses Monster of the Week as well as a mix of other indie tabletop role-playing games to tell the story of a world where everyone knows monsters exist, and a town that is slowly losing its identity to the enormous neighboring City.
