And here’s today’s news from Public Sector Executive – on Tuesday the 7th May 2024.

After last week’s local elections, the Mayors that will lead the nations regions have been confirmed.
Three mayors were announced as the first to hold the role in newly formed combined authority – those are in York and North Yorkshire, the North East, and the East Midlands.
Ben Houchen, Andy Burnham, Tracy Brabin, Steve Rotheram, and Oliver Coppard continue for a further term in their regions, whilst Richard Parker is the new mayor for the West Midlands, taking over from Andy Street.

The Scottish National Party has announced it has appointed its new leader, following Humza Yousaf’s resignation last week.
John Swinney has taken on the role without a contest and looks set to be confirmed as the next First Minister of Scotland. This is the second time that Swinney has led the SNP, coming 20 years after he resigned after a series of setbacks, however this time he is hopeful that his tenure is to be success.
Whilst Swinney is expected to become the new First Minister, this will require MSPs to approve of the decision, something which is set to happen this week – and could come as early as tomorrow.

Ofsted has announced that is removing ‘deep dives’ from ungraded inspections, to relieve some of the burden on teachers and allow inspectors to learn more about the school.
These inspections will now focus on where the school has improved and where its priorities are since the previous inspection, whilst also allowing the school to learn more about where it can continue to improve.
This measure will come into force in September, and has come following feedback from schools that have found the deep dive method challenging.
