GenX Gon Give It To Ya

This Goes Out To You - Episode 18
The World Is Loud. You Don't Have to Be.
This one goes out to you.
In a world that's getting louder by the day, sometimes the most important thing we can do is turn down the noise and listen to ourselves.
In this very personal episode of GenX Gon Give It To Ya, Deshanta takes a break from the music, movies, television, and memories of growing up GenX to talk about something happening right now—the constant noise competing for our attention, our emotions, and our energy.
This isn't a political episode. It's not about choosing sides or arguing over who's right and who's wrong.
It's about you.
Deshanta talks about her decades-long spiritual journey, her development as a medium, and some extraordinary experiences that challenged her understanding of consciousness—including an unforgettable encounter in a cemetery and a remarkable mediumship experience connected to the Rensselaer Boat Launch.
She explores intuition and the different ways people may experience it, including the clairs: clairvoyance, clairaudience, clairsentience, claircognizance, and more.
But ultimately, this episode isn't about proving anything.
It's about learning to listen.
When we're constantly consuming fear, anger, opinions, and information, it's easy to become disconnected from ourselves. Deshanta talks about the difference between being informed and being consumed, and why you can care about what's happening in the world without carrying the weight of the entire world on your shoulders.
She also takes a different look at the idea of “waking up.” Rather than focusing on conspiracy theories or secret forces, Deshanta considers waking up to be the process of recognizing the conditioning, expectations, and limitations we've accepted about who we're supposed to be.
Maybe waking up is simply realizing:
“Wait a minute... I don't have to live according to somebody else's programming.”
And if you're listening to this thinking you've spent your whole life being one way, Deshanta has a message for you:
You're still here. Your story isn't finished.
You can change your mind.
You can change direction.
You can start something new.
You can begin again.
Through her other creative project, Sick Like Mines, Deshanta also draws a connection between the incredible diversity of nature and the diversity of human beings.
A wolf doesn't have to be a dragonfly.
A snake doesn't have to be a crow.
A dart frog doesn't have to be an anglerfish.
They each have their own place, their own purpose, and their own expression.
Maybe we're not so different.
Maybe we're not supposed to think alike, believe alike, create alike, or live alike.
Maybe we're supposed to express our own light.
Because this world is too big for someone to feel small.

🕯️ Take This With You
For the next few days, before you immediately reach for your phone in the morning, take a breath.
Sit quietly.
And ask yourself:
“What do I need today?”
Not what does everyone else need from you.
Not what's happening in the world.
Not what everybody thinks you should do.
Just:
What do I need?
Then listen.
Because intuition doesn't always kick down the door.
Sometimes it whispers.
And if you take nothing else from this episode, remember this:
The chaos is the background noise.
Your Spirit is the signal.
Listen for it.
Trust yourself.
Protect your energy.
Love yourself.
Create something.
Laugh.
Dance.
Go outside.
Look at the sky.
Talk to somebody you love.
And whatever you believe Spirit is...
make a little room to listen.
There may still be so much inside you that hasn't been expressed yet.
Maybe this is the time to let it out.
❤️ I'm Deshanta. This is GenX Gon Give It To Ya.
Keep remembering who you are.
I love y'all. Peace.

What is GenX Gon Give It To Ya?

GenX Gon Give It To Ya is ultimately about spreading love and bridging generations. I’m broadening connections while scoopin up some old friends along the way. We’ll reminisce on tv, movies, music, entertainment and events that helped form our culture cause the bond is deep!
Come Play!

(0:05 - 0:23)
What up, y'all? Welcome back to another episode of Gen X Gon' Give It To Ya. Now this
episode's gonna be a little different. We're usually talking about the music we grew up with, the
television shows we watched, the movies that scared the hell out of us or made us laugh, and all
those little pieces of our past that made us who we are.
(0:23 - 0:37)
But today, I want to talk to you about right now. Not about the headlines, not about the political
parties, not about the who's right and who's wrong, not about all the things competing for our
attention. Because honestly, that's background noise.
(0:37 - 0:44)
And there's already enough noise. What I want to talk about is you. It feels like everywhere we
turn, somebody wants our attention.
(0:44 - 0:47)
Look at this. Look at that. Be afraid of this.
(0:47 - 0:50)
Be angry about that. Pick a side. Defend your position.
(0:51 - 0:52)
Argue. React. Respond.
(0:53 - 0:59)
Scroll. Scroll again. And before you know it, you've spent an entire day consuming everybody
else's energy.
(0:59 - 1:08)
And somewhere along the way, you forgot about your own. That's what I want to interrupt today.
Because I believe there is something inside every one of us that is bigger than the noise
surrounding us.
(1:09 - 1:12)
Something I call spirit. You may call it something else. God.
(1:13 - 1:15)
The universe. Source. Higher consciousness.
(1:16 - 1:19)
Your higher self. All there is. Maybe you don't have a name for it all.
(1:19 - 1:25)
And that's cool too. I'm not here to tell you what you have to believe. I'm here to invite you to look
inward.
(1:25 - 1:33)
I spent a lot of my life exploring spirituality. I've been on this journey for decades. I've experienced
things that I couldn't always explain.
(1:33 - 1:43)
I've had intuitive experiences. I've had experiences as a medium. I sat across from people who
were grieving and somehow found myself saying things I couldn't have known.
(1:43 - 1:52)
I've watched things unfold that made me question what we think we understand about
consciousness. And through all those experiences, I've learned something. There's more to us
than we can see.
(1:53 - 2:10)
Like I said, I've been on this journey many years and I'm proud of how far I've come. I started out
reading tarot cards and now I have the most amazing experiences because I'm tapped in, I'm
connected, I'm in the flow. An earlier experience of mine, I remember driving through a cemetery
with my friend.
(2:10 - 2:23)
We saw a man and his dog jogging towards us so I stopped so we could let them pass. We lost
sight of them as they were passing some tombstones. We sat like 10 seconds before we finally
said, where did they go? That's when we both realised they were spirits.
(2:24 - 2:34)
We immediately started rattling off what the guy was wearing and describing the dog to make
sure we saw what we saw. Good times. And maybe there's something we've forgotten.
(2:34 - 2:55)
We're so busy being human that we forget we're also spiritual beings having a human
experience. We're worried about money, our jobs, relationships, our children, our parents, our
health, our future, our past, what somebody thinks about us, what somebody said about us, what
somebody posted about us. And all of that is part of being human.
(2:55 - 3:03)
But underneath all that, there is still you. I want you to take back your power. When I say reclaim
your power, I'm not talking about controlling anybody else.
(3:03 - 3:24)
I'm talking about taking back ownership of your own energy, your thoughts, your attention, your
choices, your boundaries, your ability to say no, your ability to say yes, your ability to walk away,
your ability to begin again, your ability to listen to the quiet voice inside you. Because here's
something I've learned. Your intention is powerful.
(3:25 - 3:37)
Where you continually place it matters. If you spend every waking moment consuming fear, fear
becomes your environment. If you spend every waking moment consuming anger, anger
becomes your environment.
(3:37 - 3:56)
If you spend every waking moment comparing yourself to everybody else, you eventually forget
who you are. So what happens if you start doing something different? What happens if you
become intentional about what you allow into your mind? What happens if you turn down the
noise? I'm not telling you to ignore the world. That's not realistic.
(3:56 - 4:00)
We live here. We have responsibilities. We have families.
(4:00 - 4:07)
We have communities. We need to know what's happening around us. But there is a difference
between being informed and being consumed.
(4:07 - 4:19)
You can know what's happening without allowing it to occupy every square inch of your
consciousness. You can care without carrying everything. Did you hear me? You can care
without carrying everything.
(4:19 - 4:25)
You don't have to personally carry the weight of the entire world. Remember to breathe.
Remember to laugh.
(4:25 - 4:28)
Remember to dance. Remember to create. Remember to love.
(4:28 - 4:35)
Remember to experience joy. Even when the world isn't perfect, especially when it's not perfect.
There's something else I want you to remember.
(4:36 - 4:44)
We were all born with senses beyond the well-known five. We all know sight, hearing, smell,
taste, and touch. But there are others that we call the clairs.
(4:45 - 4:58)
Clairvoyance is when you see visions or pictures or images that help you provide insight.
Clairaudience allows you to hear messages or sounds from the spirit world. Clairsentience allows
you to feel emotions or sensations that aren't there.
(4:58 - 5:10)
Claircognizance is a clear understanding or knowing. You know how sometimes you just feel it in
your gut? Clairgunstance is actually tasting something sent from the spirit realm. And that's just a
few.
(5:10 - 5:17)
There are so many types of clairs. That's why your relationship with spirit is so personal. We all
learn and experience differently.
(5:18 - 5:24)
And not everyone has the same abilities. This is why sometimes we admittedly know to go. Or
not go.
(5:24 - 5:27)
Or to call them. Or don't answer. Or try again.
(5:28 - 5:32)
Or this isn't for you anymore. This isn't for me anymore. You're ready.
(5:32 - 5:42)
These are things that intuitively come to you. A lot of times people ignore that voice because
they're afraid. Sometimes we ignore it because everybody around us has an opinion.
(5:42 - 5:59)
Sometimes we ignore it because we're so accustomed to listening to everybody else that we don't
recognise our own voice anymore. Maybe it's time to become quiet enough to hear it again.
Here's an example of me using my developing mediumship skills that happened that I thought
was just so dope as hell.
(5:59 - 6:07)
My friend took me to a park that led me to a boat launch. I would learn we were at Rensselaer
Boat Launch. She said she felt like there was dead bodies there.
(6:07 - 6:18)
Next thing I know, there's a spirit whispering in my right ear that there are dead bodies there. He
showed me what he looked like. He was young, like 18, 20-ish with lighter brown wavy hair.
(6:19 - 6:30)
I told my friend. Then the spirit showed me a seesaw, so I asked my friend if there was a seesaw
at the park. We walked as she looked up online to see if there were any articles about someone
being found dead in the park.
(6:30 - 6:46)
There was an article about a guy, Frank Connell, who had a haircut I described, but he was older.
As my friend continued to read, it turns out that Frank disappeared on a Friday in 2007 after
going to a couple of bars. When police got involved, they used two separate bloodhounds.
(6:46 - 6:56)
Each bloodhound led them to the Rensselaer Boat Launch, but nothing was ever found. The case
went cold until 2017 when a hiker found a skull. It was determined to be Frank.
(6:56 - 7:18)
So what I think happened is the spirit Frank was showing me him as his younger self, so I'd know
this was years ago that it happened. After I realised this, we found the seesaw and Frank
manifested himself as he actually looked like when he passed, which is like in the picture in the
article. It was all so surreal because I had my friend with me to witness what was happening.
(7:18 - 7:27)
When we decided to leave, Frank got my attention again trying to stop me from leaving. And it
was, it's hard to explain. Like he wasn't being malicious and trying to stop me.
(7:28 - 7:38)
More like excited because he knew I could see and hear him. It was really cool because as I got
in my car, he was saying, wait, don't leave. But it was telepathically.
(7:38 - 7:46)
It's hard to explain, but hopefully you'll understand. It reminded me of a movie. I want to say The
Lovely Bones or What Dreams May Come maybe.
(7:46 - 7:54)
Like I remember a scene where someone is trying to get the attention of somebody in the world
of the living. I told Frank that I would be back. Now check this out.
(7:54 - 8:05)
What's also crazy is this kid Jalik Rainwalker disappeared around the same time as Frank. Jalik's
case has haunted the community because no one knows what happened to him. He was only 12.
(8:05 - 8:24)
Most believe his adoptive father killed him allegedly. Anyway, a couple of days before meeting
Frank, I was saying to my friend that I would love to help solve that mystery. So while researching
about Frank, an article came up and it said before the police used DNA and discovered it was
Frank, they thought it was the skull of Jalik's.
(8:24 - 8:33)
I had hoped that I could help Frank and Frank could help me find Jalik. I went back to the park a
few times after but I didn't see Frank again. Something else I want to talk about.
(8:34 - 8:43)
We hear the phrase wake up a lot. People talk about waking up. Just like the Matrix, there's
levels to this but in this moment, I mean it like breaking free.
(8:43 - 8:54)
Maybe waking up is simply realising, wait a minute, I don't have to live according to somebody
else's programming. And if you're listening to this thinking, DeShonta, I spent my whole life being
one way. Okay.
(8:55 - 8:59)
But you're still here. Which means your story isn't finished. You can change your mind.
(9:00 - 9:05)
You can change direction. You can start something new. You can become someone you've never
been before.
(9:05 - 9:13)
And you can discover a gift you didn't know you had. You can return to something you
abandoned years ago. You can forgive yourself.
(9:13 - 9:19)
You can begin again. And maybe that's the message somebody listening needs today. You are
not too late.
(9:19 - 9:30)
And this brings me to something else I've been thinking about. We're all here. Different
backgrounds, different beliefs, different cultures, different experiences, different spiritual paths,
different ways of seeing the world.
(9:31 - 9:41)
And yet, we're sharing the same planet. That's something I've thought about deeply through
another creative project of mine, Sick Like Mines. The idea that nature has so many different
expressions.
(9:41 - 9:47)
A wolf doesn't have to be a dragonfly. A snake doesn't have to be a crow. A dart frog doesn't
have to be an anglerfish.
(9:47 - 9:59)
They each have their own place, their own purpose, their own expression. And maybe humans
aren't so different. Maybe we're not supposed to all look alike, think alike, believe alike, create
alike.
(9:59 - 10:09)
Maybe we're supposed to express our own light, because this world is too big for someone to feel
small. For the next few days, try something. When you wake up, don't immediately reach for your
phone.
(10:10 - 10:16)
Take a breath. Sit quietly. Ask yourself, what do I need today? Not what does everybody else
need from me.
(10:16 - 10:23)
Not what's happening in the world. Not what does everybody think I should do. Just what do I
need? And then listen.
(10:24 - 10:28)
Maybe nothing happens. That's okay. Maybe an answer comes immediately.
(10:28 - 10:32)
Maybe it comes later. Maybe it comes while you're driving. Taking a shower.
(10:33 - 10:36)
Walking outside. Making dinner. Listening to music.
(10:36 - 10:42)
That's how I get a lot of my messages. That's often how intuition works. It doesn't always kick
down the door.
(10:43 - 10:47)
Sometimes it whispers. So that's what I wanted to give you today. Not another argument.
(10:48 - 10:52)
Not another headline. Not another reason to be afraid. Just a moment.
(10:53 - 10:59)
A moment to breathe. A moment to remember yourself. A moment to remember that you're more
than the circumstances surrounding you.
(10:59 - 11:03)
The world can be loud. You don't have to be. The world can be chaotic.
(11:03 - 11:11)
You can still choose peace. The world can tell you who you're supposed to be. You can still
choose to discover who you actually are.
(11:11 - 11:18)
And if you take nothing else from this episode, take this. The chaos is the background noise.
Your spirit is the signal.
(11:18 - 11:21)
Listen for it. Trust yourself. Protect your energy.
(11:22 - 11:24)
Love yourself. Create something. Laugh.
(11:24 - 11:27)
Dance. Go outside. Look at the sky.
(11:27 - 11:38)
Talk to somebody you love. And whatever you believe spirit is, make a little room to listen.
Because I believe there's still so much inside each of us that hasn't been expressed yet.
(11:38 - 11:42)
And maybe this is the time to let it out. I'm DeShonta. This is Gen X Gon' Give It To Ya.
(11:43 - 11:47)
And until next time, keep remembering who you are. I love y'all. Peace.
