Housing and Urban Development Secretary Scott Turner used a Faith & Freedom Coalition conference in Washington to sharply contrast the Trump and Biden administrations, accusing President Joe Biden’s team of sidelining Christian groups while promising stronger federal partnerships with faith-based ministries. Turner declared, “The Biden administration worshiped the government as their God, but we in the Trump administration, we will worship God Almighty.” He said some religious organizations were denied funding unless they removed “Christian principles from their mission statements,” and argued churches are uniquely equipped to fight homelessness, addiction and despair through housing, job training, recovery services and “biblical counseling.” Turner, who is also a pastor at Prestonwood Baptist Church, praised groups like Samaritan’s Purse and said President Donald Trump’s policies uphold “faith, the sanctity of life, biblical marriage, the nuclear family and personal responsibility.”

Police in Central, Louisiana, are pushing back against claims by Pastor Tony Spell that they ignored repeated complaints before a violent confrontation with his 20-year-old neighbor, Luke Sherwin. Central Police Chief Roger L. Corcoran said, “Allegations that the Central Police Department has failed to investigate complaints lodged by Pastor or Mrs. Spell are untrue,” adding records show just five incidents in four years and only one involving neighbors. Spell, pastor of Life Tabernacle Church, was arrested Tuesday on a second-degree battery charge after video showed him repeatedly striking Sherwin. Spell defended himself, telling his congregation the neighbor threatened to “rape your wife” and “kill them,” and later said, “I can’t allow a man to rape my wife.” But WBRZ reported Spell was also heard saying, “I’m going to break your neck,” before the beating.

A federal judge has dismissed a class-action lawsuit accusing Gateway Church in Southlake, Texas, and founder Robert Morris of misusing millions in tithes, ruling the First Amendment prevents courts from policing how churches allocate donations. U.S. District Judge Amos L. Mazzant said deciding the case would require reviewing “internal management decisions that are essential to the institution’s central mission,” including whether Gateway “properly allocated its funds from one charitable organization over another.” Plaintiffs including Katherine Leach, Garry K. Leach, Mark Browder, and Terri Browder had alleged Gateway, Morris, and founding elder Steve Dulin promised 15% of donations would support global missions and Jewish ministry partners. Citing the Fifth Circuit’s McRaney precedent, Mazzant wrote, “Civil courts cannot adjudicate ecclesiastical matters.” Leach vowed the fight isn’t over, calling the ruling a “First Amendment loophole” and saying lawyers are reviewing “all available options.”

The United Methodist Church has ended its 80-year relationship with Asbury Theological Seminary, removing the Wilmore, Kentucky school from its list of approved seminaries amid a dispute over same-sex marriage and LGBT clergy. Asbury President David Watson said the move was “a determination made by the UMC rather than a shared resolution,” stressing that the seminary “engaged fully and faithfully in the process.” Watson said the church’s 2024 Social Principles on “Human Sexuality” and “Marriage” are “not aligned with Asbury Theological Seminary’s institutional ethos,” adding, “Our theological commitments, including our commitment to Scripture, remain unchanged.” The seminary reaffirmed its belief that marriage joins “one man and one woman,” while noting current United Methodist students starting by fall 2026 will be grandfathered into the ordination process.

At its General Assembly in Louisville, Kentucky, the Presbyterian Church in America overwhelmingly rejected Overture 37, a proposal from Pacific Presbytery that would have allowed qualified women to serve as ordained deacons by removing the word “men” from the denomination’s Book of Church Order. The Overtures Committee had urged delegates to defeat it, saying, “Our constitutional documents are a sufficient expression of the biblical warrant, nature, qualifications, and duties of deacons.” Supporters pointed to Phoebe in Romans 16:1, but the floor vote drew a loud chorus of “yeas” and few “nays.” Pastor Matthew Everhard celebrated the result, saying the PCA had “absolutely crushed” the measure. The assembly also advanced a report on Christian nationalism, with committee chair David Strain condemning “the unqualified wickedness of racism and kinism, antisemitism and all forms of racial prejudice.”

Christian groups in the U.K. are sounding the alarm over Labour government plans to ban so-called conversion therapy, warning the draft law could criminalize parents, pastors and counselors for ordinary conversations. The Evangelical Alliance says it opposes any effort to change sexuality through “force or coercion,” but argues existing laws already cover abuse. Its U.K. director, Peter Lynas, called the proposal “deeply concerning,” saying it is backed by “the threat of up to five years in prison” and uses an “entirely subjective” definition of abusive practices. Simon Calvert of The Christian Institute added, “The bill would see parents, professionals and pastors having to answer to the police for innocent conversations.” Former Home Secretary Suella Braverman also blasted the plan, saying, “A conversion therapy ban will criminalize those who love their children.”

A new survey from Arizona Christian University’s Cultural Research Center is raising concerns about faith and morality in America. The American Worldview Inventory 2026 found that just 44% of theologically identified born-again Christians say human life is sacred, even though 57% strongly reject abortion as morally acceptable. Across the broader public, only 27% of Americans view life as sacred, while 52% now consider abortion morally acceptable. The study also found 90% of adults embrace syncretism over biblical theism. Research director George Barna said, “Embarrassingly few self-described Christians have either studied or reflected on their alleged faith substantially enough to develop genuine, deeply held biblical convictions.” He added that for millions, “the Christian faith is not a Bible-based faith,” warning that “Americans meander through life” with “vague religious beliefs and volatile religious behaviors.”
