And here’s today’s news from Public Sector Executive – on Friday the 28th June 2024.

The Information Commissioners Office has issued a statement into its revised approach to working alongside the public sector, after spending two years trialling the approach.
June 2022 saw the publication of an open letter in which John Edwards, UK Information Commissioner, outlined how the ICO will begin to work proactively with leaders across the public sector to ‘encourage compliance’ as well as prevent issues from occurring and learning from anything that might have gone wrong.
The basis of the new approach has seen less of an emphasis on issuing fines, as they take funding away from the delivery of public services.

Agencies across London came together yesterday to establish how they will respond to extreme heat across the capital.
Coming in a week when a four-day Yellow Heat Alert for high temperatures was issued, Operation Helios brought a number of organisations across public health, local government, transport, and emergency response together to explore London’s ability to cope with future extreme heat conditions.
Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said that “London needs to become a climate resilient city, and testing and improving London’s response to extreme heat is essential.”

Councils in England have outlined their concerns over whether there will be enough childcare places to meet the demand, with just over two months to go until the next phase of major expansion is rolled out.
This comes with the publication of research from Coram Family and Childcare, which found that nearly six in every ten councils are unsure if whether the number of childcare places will be sufficient.
The main barrier that authorities identified in the delivery of successful expansion rollout is the local workforce.
