Jane:This is Jane.
Jeff:And we are living in the moment of life habit change. We're we're on a new schedule. We wake up now at 05:00 in the morning.
Jane:Can you believe it?
Jeff:I mean, you, I could see doing that a little bit more, but I've always been a night owl, so going to bed at ten is a bit of a struggle, but it's working and I'm loving it.
Jane:I know. Yeah, it's been really nice.
Jeff:We normally record at night, and it's 01:00 in the afternoon right now.
Jane:Yeah. We needed to change up our recording schedule because our sun just beats us down, like our spirit is pulverized by the time 07:00 rolls around.
Jeff:Yeah. And then, you know, we were trying to, like, do a little bit of work, you know, beforehand or our nights, we figured out, let's see what happens if we wake up early. We hear these people, you know, I hear a lot of, like, writers talk about, like, writing hours being you wake up at, four and you have the world to yourself because everybody's asleep and kinda working so far. But now whether or not recording the the during the day works because, you know, I'm drinking tea here and not a Manhattan. So whether or not we're funny anymore probably hinges on that.
Jeff:But I don't know. It may be Rachel, our guest and Fragraphilia and Friends, Rachel Green from La Pac in our last episode. We recorded during the day for that, and maybe she shook something loose for us.
Jane:Yeah. Well, she's just funny all the time. Yeah. So No worries there.
Jeff:It was she made the transition easy. Yeah. So I do wanna not only thank her for being on, but also thank everyone. I think in the previous episode, you had requested some goth goth perfume recommendations.
Jane:Yeah. For spooky season.
Jeff:And they have been coming in, so thank you to everyone. There seems to be some overlap. You know, shout out to Lisa and Holly. You know who you are. I always forget about Madeline, the brand.
Jane:Yeah. Do we have access to this?
Jeff:Yeah. You know, Conservatory got carried on and maybe still does. Really? And they had one for years, like 4500 10 had them for a really long time. There's been a couple other places.
Jeff:Scent Room had them for a little while. I think they're gone now. But I always forget. It's like, yeah, that's a great goth brand.
Jane:Well, I'm looking at the bottles online right now, and they they look gothic. So, you noted here Apocalypse Stick is the the Gothic recommendation?
Jeff:That's what, that is the common thread. I've received that recommendation many times over.
Jane:Alright. Let me pull up the notes on this real quick.
Jeff:But I would say please keep sending them because that would be a great topic as we get into the speak spookier time of the of the year. We would love to talk a little bit more about get some samples in, talk about them. We've had old favorites like was, mentioned a lot.
Jane:Yeah. Yeah. And that's one I'm I wear frequently. Okay. Apocalyptic.
Jeff:Mhmm.
Jane:The notes on this are just rose and asphalt. So I feel like I have to check this out now.
Jeff:Especially because you are in a rose phase.
Jane:Yes. I I am. I'm I'm craving a very simple simple rose with not too much else going on. So any recommendations for that?
Jeff:Hit us up. It's just gonna be a long list.
Jane:Same list.
Jeff:But it so just straight road. No, like, road news, no rose and patchouli or
Jane:Yeah. If it's not doesn't get too ambery, you know, too citrusy.
Jeff:Too sweet.
Jane:I mean, I don't mind, like, a syrupy rose necessarily
Jeff:as long as you
Jane:don't get too much saffron going on. I like we were talking about Au Rose by Diptyque, though even that's, like, a little too citrusy for me. I don't know.
Jeff:What is the Turkish rose oil? Is it nest?
Jane:Nest? Yeah. Okay. That's not
Jeff:No. I know, but I mean, it's like a
Jane:That's got way too much going on.
Jeff:Oh, really? Yeah.
Jane:I don't think you understand rose, Jeff.
Jeff:Well, shame on me.
Jane:No. I mean, you know, you don't wear a lot of rose perfumes, or you do, but they have a lot of other things going on.
Jeff:That's
Jane:true. Obviously, as a man, you wouldn't be wearing a a simple pure rose note.
Jeff:Don't pigeonhole me in my mind.
Jane:I know you've been mister white florals this week.
Jeff:I am mister white floral, and maybe I'll be red floral now. So is that a thing? But speaking of florals oh, you know what? Actually, I'm gonna re transition back to Madeline. Katie Beale.
Jeff:It's a little home goods store that we bought Silphium and your Joram Studio one. They carry it. And I think they mostly have the candles.
Jane:Okay. Cool.
Jeff:But that's a mental note for you Dallas peeps out there. They're gonna open a new store on Knox in the next month.
Jane:Are they really?
Jeff:Yeah. Oh, man. They're gonna have I the two hope they have, more Perfume RH, which, of course, we always love going to Birds to get. But also, I figured Katie Beale, you know, would be a good line for that store? Strange Love.
Jane:Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Man, I'm so excited about this new Strange Love offshoot. Yes.
Jane:More
Jeff:Offshoot affordable is I think what it's called. So you're right there. Yeah.
Jane:Okay. Is it going to have oud or not? Do you know this?
Jeff:Yeah. I believe it's gonna actually have, like, actual authentic oud,
Jane:like I'm sure just in smaller doses than
Jeff:Yeah. That's the super. Okay. It's more more friendly doses of
Jane:I'm I'm really excited about that.
Jeff:I like the bottles. I think. They feel very, like, up now.
Jane:They're very modern.
Jeff:Yeah.
Jane:And I think a lot of people aren't going to like that. I will say some of the color combinations were were speaking to me. Yeah. They felt kinda like nineties. It was fun.
Jeff:It feels nineties. Yeah. Yeah. But now coming back around again to my floral phases, I mentioned this on an Instagram story the other day, I think I finally found my magnolia scent. Not just a pure magnolia, but so many times I see like magnolia perfumes and they have so much other stuff going on that you don't really it's like, oh, you just mean white floral.
Jeff:But, Le Jardinere by Anti? Anti? A n t I. Anti? But it has like, you know, it's a French house that has like a little accent somewhere in there And so I don't know.
Jane:Who knows what that's doing?
Jeff:Yeah. You know. But anyway, it's a la giardinier and it is the top notes are like grass and lily stems, but then it has magnolia flowers and honeysuckle buds in the middle, and then like nettles and galvanum. And when I just I ordered some samples because I was just curious about the brand. They have kinda like cool hefty bottles and I see people on social kind of talk about them every now and then or I see them in like a, you know, a shop ad or something like that or a shop video like at Lucky Center or something.
Jeff:And I've just been kind of curious and then when I was making a sample order, I noticed that Marc Antoine Cotequietto, our perfumer, and Oyer from Roberto Greco. We love him. Amazing perfumer. I was like, I'm gonna order these samples. And I sprayed it on and it's like my brain recognized it first.
Jeff:It's like my brain was like, oh, this is a scent. This just has some kind of connection to your soul. And then I then I was like, wait, this this smells like the Magnolia I've been looking for. And I looked up the notes and sure enough, it's right in the middle. Now, it goes honeysuckle pretty quickly after that, which is no complaint here, but I think that's the best I've come across so far.
Jane:I haven't worn it myself, but I got to smell it wafting off of you several times this week, and it was beautiful. And I know a lot of people were really excited for Jeff because he's been stringing us along for years.
Jeff:Well, there's there's just not many. And there's one that everyone recommends, and I just haven't ordered yet. I can't think of the name of it. To be honest, the label is so ugly and it looks like it's printed off on a home printer that it's made me a little hesitant on it, but I just haven't gotten around for
Jane:For this perfume?
Jeff:For the for another perfume that that always comes recommended as like a pure magnolia scent. I just I need to get a sample of it just to
Jane:What a gentleman not throwing this brand under
Jeff:the bus. Well, mainly because I can't remember the name of it. But I will try that one and if that is the one because I'm I'm not really looking for prestige here. I'm looking for those dad memories of pushing my baby son around on those tired mornings, getting that magnolia scent in the air of North Texas.
Jane:We have a really exciting new discovery to share with you guys. Jeff ordered this sample set from the brand LaPair, which is a menswear brand out of New York, I believe.
Jeff:Mhmm.
Jane:And sample set looks really nice. Didn't know what to expect. But from the very first one we tried, there's four. What an incredible line.
Jeff:Yeah. I really, really like them. They initially came out with one, which is now called Oneur or Premier. And I mean, I don't I don't know.
Jane:Premier yeah. One er? That's so confusing.
Jeff:Yeah. And then it says, like, on the it stands for Premier or something like that on the website. But, originally, that was that was the only one that was available. I remember, like, Emma from Perfume Room talking about it. I think it was mentioned on Dry Down Diaries at one point.
Jeff:And I've just always been curious because it's they've always discussed it as being a a a really good patchouli that's a little different. It's similar. It's familiar, but it also has its own little thing. And I would agree. That's the one I've been waiting for so long.
Jeff:I've almost blind bought it several times because the price point's not bad.
Jane:No. They're they're like $1.15 or
Jeff:something? Yeah. It's like $1.15 for 50 ml. Cool little, you know, punchy little bottles. They're very simple and chic.
Jeff:And they finally came out with a sample set because they now have, as you mentioned, four perfumes. And I tried that one like instantly, and it is it's a banger. It's a just a great patchouli perfume.
Jane:I would have been so happy if you blind bought this. It's it is like, you know, sort of your the standard patchouli that you always hope for, but just better. It's a very satisfying wear.
Jeff:Yeah. And it kind of toes the line for us, and and the people who listen to us talk about a handful of patchouli fragrances regularly like Psychedelique by Bourgeois or Tempo by Diptyque, it kind of fits right down in the middle because it's not as dense and ambery and chocolatey as Psychedelique, and it's not as like hardcore dry patchouli as Tempo.
Jane:Tempo's very like soyly to me, very earthy, and I feel like Premier or oner or whatever it's called is
Jeff:One or It's That's what it is. Don't know if
Jane:I like that. It's very wearable. Like, it feels like it would come from a chic menswear brand. You know what I mean? Mhmm.
Jane:It's a little bit more polished, And patchouli is something that can wear really, really heavy and this it it doesn't. It's not an overpowering patchouli. And as much as I love patchouli, it can wear you out sometimes.
Jeff:Yeah. This is, I think you had once mentioned it kinda reminds you of how or maybe I said, I can't remember it, like Sketch and some of the Maison Violettes have like these kind of core perfumes, like you have an amber, you have a vanilla, you have a, you know, a woodsy one, but they just they're not revolutionizing that note or that style, but they just hit on all the bright notes. And that that does it very well.
Jane:Yeah. It's like if you had to choose one patchouli fragrance in your wardrobe, this would be a solid choice. Not that I would ever do that to myself, but it it would be.
Jeff:Yeah. I think the only regret I really have is that I think when it was originally released, it was a 100 ml, and now it's down to 50 ml. Because I feel like it's one of those that you'll just spray a lot just to Yes. Like, you can just
Jane:plowed through sketch.
Jeff:You could easily go through a bottle, even a, I don't know, a 100 ml, but we'd certainly try and
Jane:Maybe we can email them. Maybe they have some bottles hidden away.
Jeff:Yeah. The other the next one that I was drawn to is Jean Vetiver or Jean Vetiver, And that is bergamot, vetiver, tonka, sandalwood, and amber. It's just like a it's an easy breezy wear. It has all of those things going on. It's hitting at all the right pitches because it never gets like it's not like a smoky, dry vetiver.
Jeff:It's not like an overly green vetiver. It's just like right down the middle, and it's balanced very well by the citrusy top and kind of the the sandalwood base, and it's just like a nice chic wear.
Jane:Yeah. It's a it's a nice like amber tonka finish, but it's got that you know, vetiver's so sexy. Yeah. When vetiver's wafting towards you, it's like a very sexy nighttime kind of scent, but then it's got this really nice amber tonka base. When this was you you wore this a lot over the last few weeks.
Jane:Mhmm. And every time you wore it, was I like, what are you wearing? It smells so good.
Jeff:Yeah. It's, again, like maison violet. You know, this kind of also reminds me a little of Celine.
Jane:I can see that.
Jeff:You know, it just has that kind of wearability. It doesn't go but I will give it credit. It doesn't go so it's not going for just like it's not trying to sell a million records, but it's it's looking to get on the radio. Whereas I think like Celine, they dial up that that amber sandalwood or that vanilla sandalwood musk thing a little bit. It's like, okay, you're trying to like, get broad appeal on some level.
Jeff:And
Jane:Wow. La Perre's perfume line is so good, it has Jeff firing shots at Celine.
Jeff:Well, I mean, I don't know. It's like No.
Jane:I I agree.
Jeff:Yeah. Celine, seriously, is probably one of the best, most complete lines of all, especially designer, but of any luxury fragrance house. But half the line is like, okay, this is kind of like this other one in the line and it's like, yeah, okay, it's resting on that vanilla sandalwood. Now, I'm gonna give you afters here. Afters is white musk, geranium leaves, iris vetiver and patchouli, tonka, sandalwood, and nutmeg.
Jeff:And this is the one that hasn't quite hit me yet and I think maybe the opening's just so big and the other three are so, like, cool and
Jane:Is this afters?
Jeff:This is afters. It's nice. I'm liking it more than I initially like.
Jane:That nutmeg is screaming at me. Screaming at me.
Jeff:I'm getting I don't know what they're doing for the geranium leaves, but it's like, it's too green. Yeah. It's like that nutmeg and the green, and then I don't even know where the iris fits. I I mean, the white musk, I feel like is getting drowned out by all these other powerful notes.
Jane:It's good. I mean, I smell the vetiver really strongly. Yeah. Patchouli, but nutmeg is something you have to be really careful with. Nutmeg and clove proceed with caution.
Jane:Maybe as this wears, I haven't worn it on the skin yet because I mean, you wore this and you told me what it was. I'm like, yeah, that's the only one I'm not crazy about. I don't I don't know. Maybe it's just the nutmeg.
Jeff:It could be.
Jane:Maybe it's the name afters.
Jeff:Yeah. Well, you know, yeah, it it to me, it just it has that it's so bold and not in like, oh, it's breaking down barriers or anything. It's just like so oomph that it almost makes me feel a little nauseous.
Jane:Yeah. I get that.
Jeff:But the one that actually, if we're, you know, it's a given that oner or premier is probably a must buy. But the one that's as much as I like Jean Vedevaire, I like this Oui Monsieur. And I'll tell you that it has a little bit of a build that you think like, oh, this is like a classic Cologne build. You got citrus and florals and kind of like an amber base. And yes, that's true.
Jeff:But they do it really well that it's almost it reminds me a little bit of, Comet by Chanel.
Jane:Yes.
Jeff:It's the the the kind of the heliotrope and the base. It it's just so powdery, but it's also citrusy and wood, you know, it's it's just a it's a really cool perfume.
Jane:I was not an athletic child and I still I was doing ballet class because I was a girl and I liked all pink things and I would console myself after ballet class by going to get a roll of Neko wafers.
Jeff:Yes.
Jane:And this is like that smell of unrolling a roll of NECO wafers.
Jeff:It reminds me of a freshly opened box of Kleenex or like tissue paper as well. Like, there's that that kind of has a little bit of that, but again, it also has very perfumery things like, it has like the grapefruit is really nice. I like that it leans more on that than just like a lemon or has orange, but that kind of dusty almondy musky heliotrope.
Jane:Which can be hard to work.
Jeff:Which can be hard to work, but we that it's it's not like heliotrope by perfumar h, which we bag on about all the time, but it has that kind of frequency. Like the way that that that the almond and the heliotrope and kind of some of the muskier.
Jane:Yeah. I mean, it's composed with a lot of restraint
Jeff:Yeah.
Jane:Which is what you need dealing with such a heavy note. That is really really good.
Jeff:Yeah. That would be, I definitely would go with the patchouli first, but this would be something I would definitely want.
Jane:And if you take away one thing from this podcast episode, get yourself a La Pear sampler. You won't regret it.
Jeff:Yes, and I think it comes with like a 25% off a full bottle, so it's like, bam. Then it's like, I don't know, I'm not gonna do quick math here, but maybe like $90 or 50 and you'll be cool because people say like, what are you wearing? And you say a perfume that no one else is probably wearing around you. But they will be soon because, you know, that's what we do here.
Jane:Our massive influence.
Jeff:Our massive influence is influencing right now. Any others that you remember from the last week or something that
Jane:You know, it's been so crazy with back to school and I've been sweating my ass off in my studio. I haven't been wearing much perfume, so unfortunately, I don't have as much to contribute as I normally do.
Jeff:Actually, we do.
Jane:Oh, you do?
Jeff:No. No. We both do because we finally got our career in.
Jane:Oh, yeah. That's a big deal.
Jeff:So Avant Garde, don't really know, you know, it's a it's a retailer and they have perfumes and sometimes they have these crazy sales, and they had a big sale last week in which several people started DMing us saying like, hey, they're having this big sale and that includes Corinne, Rhettfield, and the signature sent. And the first person told me about 30% off, then another person was like, oh, it's 40%. And then someone then told us it was 50%. And so we were like, oh my gosh, what do we do here? But, obviously, we ended up getting a full bottle of Corinne, the signature one.
Jeff:The only one they didn't have was Forgive Me, which is good because we didn't need to get two bottles. We only needed to get one, which we did because we're good good people. And
Jane:Okay. But we almost went for Aurelian as well. We did. But you had some some second thoughts on that. I was, like, for it, and you said, I don't know.
Jane:I'm kind of leaning toward more towards forgive me, which shocked me because forgive me being like a spicy incense y white floral is
Jeff:I'm your boy. That's me.
Jane:That's classic Jane baits. The the incense y white florals are me. So I was very surprised to see you.
Jeff:You're Rose now. I'm white floral. You know, I I think I I think it was more of just if there's one thing I've learned about this new school year, and I'm sure all the parents, especially the old veterans out there and not newbies like us can attest to, there's a there's a charge just waiting to be made out there for school supplies or an after school program or a book or something. So it's just kind of like, you know what? This was a blessing.
Jeff:We got Corinne at half off. Not gonna, you know, go too heavy here and
Jane:Well, you did get a sign up for every volunteer thing. Yes. Just been crushing it as a new school parent.
Jeff:I I I'm gonna add a extra shout out to Tracy from Invisible Stories because when I was looking to put that Aurelien in the cart, I think back to her, give yourself the philosophy, and I was like, you know what? I'm gonna wait one day. I'm gonna wear it on our sample, and I ended up wearing it so many times because I do actually like it. I kind of burned myself out on it. Then
Jane:I I love that. Tracy is a genius. Yeah. Yourself the ick.
Jeff:And then making myself wait the day, I went back to look at it again and it was sold out. So it's like, hey, that all works out. Thank you, Tracy.
Jane:Now Wise words.
Jeff:Wise words. So, sense of the week.
Jane:Okay. Do you wanna go first or should I go first?
Jeff:I'll go first. Yeah. I, well, I'll just do my easy ones here real quick. I busted out all I know it's a 105 outside, but I busted out musk ravager last night and it's still my comfort scent. And it was there to meet me in the morning.
Jeff:And that's okay because that's what I want out of it. It's just I love Muscle Averger by Fragile. And I still think that is probably maybe my favorite perfume of all time.
Jane:Really?
Jeff:I do. Yeah. Anytime I put it on, I think.
Jane:I'm gonna start holding you for
Jeff:this Nobody takes anything I say seriously when it comes to ranking favorite perfumes at of all time because But it does I have, I think early Fragraphilia days, I was always talking about how I think Musgraveger is the best perfume ever. And I anytime I put it on, I think, yeah, this this is probably the best perfume for me ever.
Jane:Best perfume ever and my favorite perfume are two different things for me.
Jeff:Same.
Jane:You're so full of shit.
Jeff:And I think that, you know, that there should be some cutouts and caveats to those as well. There should be reference points of, like, time of year and but, yeah, it just I don't know. The other one, and I wore this a couple times this week because it's on our tray, and then someone actually sent us an email thanking us for the recommendation of Mellow Yellow by Astrophil and Stella. Fragraphilia is a proud champion of this perfume. It is it's a head shop.
Jeff:It's a little bit citrus and gourmand and incense, and it's just a it's a Sealz Zorochian perfume. It's a master stroke of just kind of, like, heady citrus incense.
Jane:It's a little purse candy too.
Jeff:It's a little purse candy.
Jane:Yeah.
Jeff:But I thought after just that email and wearing it the other day when we received the email thanking us for the recommendation, I thought, well, why not wear it on a walk today? Because again, it's like a 105 degrees and 70% humidity.
Jane:How'd you feel about that decision?
Jeff:It was my, you know, it was my company the entire walk. It was there holding my hand and smothering me at times, but, I don't regret it, and I got to know it on a new level. But my real sense of the week, have been I I received an email, shout out to Michael Schreiber, who was listening to an older episode and mentioned Serge Luton's Tuboros Crimineaux, and how we weren't really sold on it. I guess we in the episode, we were not big fans or not really sold on it. And he picked it up recently and was loving it and thought we should revisit again.
Jeff:So I had to dig it out and I ended up digging out a bunch of our surge samples. And yes, it stood corrected. Tuberous criminal is a banger and I love it so much. But then I was like, man, if I love this one so much, let me pull out some of the other ones that I was a little bit hesitant on. And I just went on a surge tour all week.
Jeff:It was heaven. I wore Herr Morisk. That's not probably how you say it. I wore Dane Blonde, which you've always loved. I wore Le Mer, and each one of them was just like, dang.
Jeff:This is this is a must have. This is beautiful. This is amazing. Like, the the for Moresque is we all love those kind of saddle leather perfumes, you know, like Papillon has or Maison Dettto, Naomi Goodsir. All of those I love.
Jeff:This is not, but they all will have in most cases, like, something kind of little sharp in them or a little that you gotta kinda get through to get to that kind of smooth, leathery, worn, kind of, not barn, but just like a heated leather saddle smell and this one goes right to it and there's no singe, there's no harshness, it's just beautiful from top to bottom
Jane:You told me it was the best leather scent of all time.
Jeff:I said that may be the best composed leather scent I've ever smelled.
Jane:Okay. Another thing I can hold you to.
Jeff:And, you know, I don't feel like I'm It was incredible. Yeah. And Dame Blonde was, you know, it's leather in a different way. It's more like a Duro by Nassamoto or a, what's the one by name? Guess so, the Queer Obscure or whatever.
Jeff:Yeah. I don't think that, that's by Rito. It's whatever, something like that. Cuirre un un I don't know. But it's kind of like a smooth suede.
Jeff:It's a little sweeter. It's it's a little bit more, I don't know, easygoing, chocolaty.
Jane:Prevalores.
Jeff:Yes.
Jane:Yes.
Jeff:Prevalores. They're a little bit just like like Belores, a little bit smooth and softer. That's nice. Le Mer is like, man, I'd had no idea I would like that. So powdery and kind of like there's floral and it's just kind of like it's a little sweet and, you know, incense y.
Jeff:It's really cool.
Jane:Speaking of incense, we also burned some incense by Cinnamon Projects.
Jeff:Yes.
Jane:And we really enjoyed that too. We never talk about incense on this podcast.
Jeff:We don't, and we need to start so, yeah, more recommendations. Incense, High quality, you know, that Cinnamon Project sent us that stuff years ago on top of another what was my Easy Tiger?
Jane:Oh, yes.
Jeff:Oil perfume. Speaking of awesome leather perfumes. That is an awesome easy tiger. I don't know if it's still available, but that's an amazing perfume oil. But, yeah, I've really enjoyed burning that incense.
Jeff:It's nice.
Jane:Yeah. Yeah. I burn it in my studio.
Jeff:So to sum up my sense of the week and my surge tour, I just I'd also boldly claimed and told you that the only thing I want for my birthday and Christmas this year was a bell jar.
Jane:Oof. I mean, I I love this for you. I'm really nervous about ordering something that delicate.
Jeff:I am actually probably a little more nervous about import fees at this point. I think they probably cover it like a lot of bigger distributors do, but
Jane:I don't know if you guys saw Jeff's story reposting Josh from Paraphrase Perfumes. They got hit with a $16,000 fee.

They tag on someone had told me that they ordered a sample set from Canada and it wasn't I can't remember. Jane:Like I said, it's been really hot out here. And I mean, I have my studio windows covered to keep it cooler. And I'll I will spray something in the morning, but I typically don't reapply until I go to bed at night. Jeff ratted me out on stories for putting one spritz of Amber Kiso by Diaz and Durga on my nightgown. I only sprayed it on my nightgown before I put my the nightgown on my body, which is something I like to do sometimes.
Jane:I did one spritz of Amber Kiso on one side, and a spritz of Psychedelique by Chevoire on the other side. I wanted something
Jeff:Great mix.
Jane:Yeah. I I mean, it was. And it was on my nightgown, which is something I I wash all the time, obviously. So it was a low commitment way or, you know, how how low commitment can you be when you're dealing with Amber Kiso?
Jeff:And how many days ago was this? Just for context.
Jane:Two days ago?
Jeff:Was
Jane:it? Two days ago. It's still lingering in there. But the reason why I reached for Amber Kiso is because we have this one dresser in our bedroom that, I mean, it must have been ten years ago at this point. I must have had some left a some sweater in it that was covered in amber queso, and still this week, I opened up the dresser and I got another gust of amber queso, and it smelled so good that I just wanted to keep it going.
Jeff:Yeah. Anytime we especially yeah. Anytime we close the bathroom or the bedroom door and then reopen it like an hour later, it's like the room just smells like amber queso. But in the most, because like you said, you only put on one spray, so it's not like overwhelming, it's just kind of like adds a little ambiance.
Jane:It's such a weird smell because it's like a little bit gasoline, a little bit sawdust, a little bit bubble gum, a little bit band aids.
Jeff:It's
Jane:weird. I don't quite know anything else that smells like it, but at the same time, it smells like kind of a, you know, meditative incense fragrance, woody incense fragrance, even though I don't think there's incense in there, but it kinda feels that way. Love that. It was good layered with psychedelic. I've never done that before.
Jeff:Yeah. And I think it also is one that the longer it's around, the more you become accustomed to it and the more you enjoy it. Like now when I walk into that room after the door's been closed or something like that and you smell it, it's like, oh, just, yeah, it's a great perfume.
Jane:And at the time that we bought it, we had a lot less perfume. We knew a lot less perfume.
Jeff:We, yeah.
Jane:I mean, I smell way more perfume now and know perfume a lot better and it, you know, amber queso still really holds up. Also, my nightgown technique, try it. It's awesome. You lay lay it down on your bed, do one spray on one side and another spray on the other side. This is my new thing.
Jeff:Yeah. It's like the guy that sprays it in the air and grabs it and rubs it in his beard.
Jane:Oh, you showed me that.

Jeff:And so it's a cool technique.

Jane:Yeah. L'Her Depots by Diptyque, the hair perfume. Like I said, kinda bought it out of a sense of obligation while I was in the store, and I've come to really love it. That's actually not wearing perfume during the daytime. That's something that's always in my hair, so I'm always wearing that.
Jane:Okay. Also, Dale Girard Musk vocation. I think the the confusing labeling of this, it's called d g r zero three vocation, and this is a synthetic musk. It's haben haben haben
Jeff:Habanolid?
Jane:Habanolid, which is a synthetic musk molecule by Firminich. There's also, like, artemisia, cardamom, galvanum. There's lavender, and I feel like the lavender is really strong in this.
Jeff:Mhmm.
Jane:And mugway, lily of the valley, it's feels like fresh laundry.
Jeff:It is. Yeah. It's really nice.
Jane:So fresh laundry synthetic musk, and it wears really well in high heat. That I have worn during the daytime. And then another one that I keep reaching for, especially because we've been waking up at 5AM, rising sun by right of way. It is perfect for, like, waking up with the sun. I'm obsessed with this perfume.
Jeff:I know. You wear it all the time. I wear

But that celery note, I pick it up, there's a couple other perfumes I was as I think one was a surge perfume I was wearing this week that I was like, oh, I'm always kind of I'm drawn to it. I don't know if I actually like it, but I'm drawn to it and I enjoy it.
Jane:It's totally celery seed. I didn't even think about that. Yeah.
Jeff:But I think some perfumes use it, like, think ganymede has this in it where it's like, it almost it starts to lean like maple syrupy. But I'm getting tobacco, like I said, hay, that's celery, but then it also has this kind of boozy slash ozonic watery accord to it.
Jane:Yes.
Jeff:Like, there's is there like, ambergris in it?
Jane:No. But it's inspired by Driftwood, so, like, I mean, not listed, but I I think that you're right. There is something
Jeff:Well, yeah. It's a watery water wood. Going on here.
Jane:But, yeah, the celery note, now that you've said that, I can't unsmell it.
Jeff:Yeah. But it also has a little bit of that, like, kinda maple syrup. It's a little honeyed.

Jeff:Yeah. And and there's a little bit of a Uranus type of vibe to this. How

I don't know if it's the funny thing about that kind of style of perfume is I don't know if I'm gonna wear it out, especially this time of year. Where it feels like it's a perfume, but I don't know if it's gonna be received like it's a perfume.

Jeff:it Yeah. There's very much like a body of real, like it's not sweaty. It's it's salt on the skin kind of thing and that comes up in one of mine. Overall, I mean, I give it like a three and a half out of five. It's Okay.
Jeff:I like it. Just don't It's know if I wear Yeah. It's like, it's it's not sloppy or poorly constructed, it's like really it's blended well, I think, and the executions there, it's just, I don't know if I wanna smell like it.

Jane:No. Well, I'm I would have said that right away. It smells like, you know, if you've been cooking spicy food, like, richly spiced food, the way it smells on your skin afterward Yeah. Which is something I really like. It's, yeah, peppery, cuminy, salty, very I mean, I don't get to experience stuff like this.
Jane:I like it a lot. Is there turmeric in this? Is turmeric haunting us? It's been in two perfumes that
Jeff:we smell. I'll give you the note list. Clary sage, pepper, cumin, vetiver, and sandalwood.
Jane:That's really good. I really like that. Like, if I smelled this on you, I'd be like, damn, that's sexy.
Jeff:Yeah. It's it remind the way the cumin is working there is very similar to Julesin's Lacay Secret. Yeah. Where it's like there's a perfume going on, but there's also this other underbelly that's kind of like teasing. I've worn this a couple times because I didn't know how long that it would carry because the Calle Secrets, it's very subtle.
Jeff:It stays, but it's always mostly kind of powdery and floral and and iracy. And this one, it does fade away and you get more of a kind of like a a woody, a patchouli kind of or a better verb, sand of wood, but it's really beautiful, but it's it's kind of like, threw me back the first time I ever wore it. I was like, oh, okay. What is this?
Jane:From the way that I'm describing it, you people listening are probably imagining something very funky, but like, there is a little bit of that funk, but then there's something really a really tidy composition underneath
Jeff:Mhmm.
Jane:And the vetiver is gorgeous.
Jeff:Yeah. It is it's interesting how it's starting to rest down into that sandalwood because you still get the kind of peppery cumin note going through it, but it's I don't know. It's just so well balanced. It's really, really beautiful.

That doesn't really make sense, but it kinda gives me that kind of it feels like it could be a perfumo aroma, perfumo's Medici could be it has a little bit of a heron green side to it.
Jeff:It has that kind of arbouleh.
Jane:Totally.
Jeff:It's it's a little bit aftershave, a little bit camphorous, a little bit smoky, but it's very green and a little dusty. Yeah. I really like I mean, to me, this is this smells it also this is reminiscent. Going back to Aurelien by Corinne Rettfeil, this is what the dry down kind of resembles. Like, dry down I like the dry down of Verelian much more than the top notes.
Jeff:Yes. Like when I put it on, it's like, I like it, it's fine. I get the orange blossom, you get a little lily of the valley, but then it kinda like just rests in this awesome musky kind of sandalwood and a little bit of like a cashmere in or something, some kind of like base that's just so awesome, and this is kinda like that. Just feels like a old school aftershave a little bit to me.

Jane:And Hori Hori Hori is a gardening tool from Japan, kinda gardening knife. So it's kind of inspired by, like, cutting through greens. The notes are bergamot, grapefruit, blood orange, saffron, cedarwood, cashmere, sandalwood, amberwood, soft musk, and ambroxan.
Jeff:Yeah. Well, I I don't like to be too harsh on and I don't feel like I'm being harsh. I just because I there's what is there's we received their we ordered their samples recently, and there is one that I was really interested in because of its name, and I can't think of it right now. Any idea what that would be? I'm trying to think.
Jeff:Praying Mantis. I thought that was such a cool name, I wanted to order the samples, I like the bottle look and I really really like that perfume and I want to spend a little bit more time with it and wear it before I was gonna talk about it on here, but I haven't worn this one yet.
Jane:I think a lot of people would like this, it's just you and I are really sensitive to loud ambroxan and synthetic musk.
Jeff:Yeah, I think it's just and also, like I said, there are two to me, it's two different perfumes and I like both of them but I don't like them together.

Jane:The one thing about doing this podcast and reviewing things on the game is like, we have to we're always reacting to the opening because Yeah. Obviously, we don't have time to sit here for thirty minutes. We have to go pick up our son from school. I I would love to wear this because you had a full day with it. I haven't.

Jeff:Where it just envelop where we just go through the entire process, you know, oh, this is the opening, we talk about the opening and then talk about the and it's like an hour wear.
Jane:Yeah. Well, maybe we can, like, start a movie podcast, and we can talk about movies and intermittently talk about how the sun is developing. Yeah. Or we could do one of those story podcasts that our son likes to listen to.
Jeff:And then put it on Yoto. Yes. And just cash in for all those little kids out, all those toddlers out there that need a little Right. Coming to a Yoto near you.
Jane:Oh, we sound like we haven't had Manhattans at this point. Okay. But I'm glad we didn't blind buy rose with insect because now I really want moss.
Jeff:Like, the

Jane:Yeah. It's cool. Yeah? So if it's if the brand is like anti, like, anti perfume, this doesn't smell like a traditional perfume, so concept accomplished.

Jeff:so reminds me, I finally found, after many months of not knowing where it was, my Gucci Nobile sample that Isaac from Fragraphilia -Shop perfumes, a la El Morocco sent me out of the kindness of his heart, just a little sample from a old bottle that he had found, and it was my my go to perfume in like eighth, ninth grade and it's it is anytime I spray it, it literally sends me. It's such an interesting, like, sensation you get when you smell something that takes you that far back into your life and I found it this morning and so I sprayed it and I was loving it and it's kind of similar, same type of, like, type perfume, so it's been nice to live in that world for a little bit. But, yeah, that's my favorite and that's the end of the episode. Just over an hour. We're like efficient.
