The mindset is brought to you by your kind and generous GM, Justin Gerardot and sound designer and composer, Nick Traeger.
Theater of the Mindset. Theater of
Justin (DM):Mindset.
Nick (Pat):Last week on Camp Do Anything. All the counselors prepped their campers for their questing ritual, but also took time to accomplish their own goals. Mala prayed to his god Mirren asking for guidance and the second wish she wants him to work towards granted. Evandria prepped food with Analor and packed a picnic for her gondola ride date with her romantic interest and camp ex rival, Hammeron. Elinor met with Wendell to discuss her immunity against forget me nots and what that could mean about her missing memories.
Nick (Pat):Finally, Pat put in the work for the Summer Solstice competition and called home to find help his parents have taken an opportunity to sponsor Camp X Stelshaw, coming with a job offer for Pat to work for the experienced team. Of course, he had some big feelings about that, so we'll pick up the next morning.
Justin (DM):Early the next morning at the Evergreen Center, Patrick is quickly moving through the various chores that he must do every day, taking care of the animals, taking care of steadfast. With the summer solstice event expected to happen later today, he is moving as quickly through all of these habitual chores as fast as he can. The various animals are catching on to the excitement that he feels. Patrick does not have as long of experience at Camp Do Anything as some of the other staff members, and so this is still a new novel experience for him, and he is very eager to get the day started. A lot of the other professional staff are already at the island in the lake, and he is eager to get out.
Justin (DM):However, before he does so, he hears a ding and is aware that someone has joined him out here at the Evergreen Center.
Nick (Pat):See Pat roll up with a pretty big medicine ball under one arm and just yells at Patrick,
Evan (Mala):Let's go. Last one before the show. Come on, Patrick. Let's go.
Justin (DM):Oh, I didn't really think that we would be
Nick (Pat):He throws the medicine god.
Justin (DM):I didn't think we'd be we'd be doing this today. Don't you wanna save your
Nick (Pat):go. Come on. To work out. Let's go.
Justin (DM):Oh, you Okay. He kinda gets in the zone. He is also, you know, not not unwilling to expend some energy. So begins going through kind of your your daily ritual, your your HIIT workout in the morning. Halfway through at your typical one allotted water break, no more than two minutes.
Justin (DM):Can't have your heartbeat get into zone two at all. He says, Pat, I I really thought are you you're going hard today.
Nick (Pat):Yeah. Yeah. It's gotta be Camp X.
Justin (DM):Is so is everything okay?
Nick (Pat):I mean, yeah. Everything's everything's fine. It's yeah. We just I just gotta make sure Camp Do Anything stays open, I guess. It's kinda kinda on us.
Nick (Pat):It's kinda a big deal. It kinda this is kind of a good test for the whole summer, think. I think this is a good this is a good piece of the whole puzzle. Right? Big big piece of pie.
Justin (DM):It I you are not personally responsible for keeping camp do anything
Nick (Pat):yeah. Not me personally, but I think it's a bit think it's important. I think Paulie's here. I think every I mean, it's yeah. My family's been a big part of camp doing anything for years.
Nick (Pat):I think it's yeah. I just think it's important. I just think that I'm taking it really seriously.
Justin (DM):Give me a deception check.
Nick (Pat):That's a
Justin (DM):two. Yeah. Patrick got a 17. Okay. And he takes the medicine ball and scoots it away from you.
Justin (DM):Tell me what's going on.
Nick (Pat):I mean, just just I mean, stressed and I called my folks yesterday.
Justin (DM):Oh, okay.
Nick (Pat):My folks?
Justin (DM):Yes. I am. I'm familiar with your folks. They've stopped by from time to time.
Nick (Pat):We apparently, the store is sponsoring X Camp this year which is Oh. Super good for the store, I guess. Yeah. Which Oh. I guess it is good for the store.
Nick (Pat):And apparently coming with said sponsorship is an offer for a job as a counselor and I don't know how to I'm it's it's ridiculous. It's ridiculous. That's how I feel about it.
Justin (DM):That's that's big news. Yeah. Why is it ridiculous?
Nick (Pat):Because I mean, we've like I said, we've been like, my whole family has gone to Camp Do Anything. We've been a big part of it. We used to sponsor regularly Camp Do Anything. It used to be a whole deal. I don't know.
Nick (Pat):It just feels it just feels like we're turning our back kind of a little bit on it. And fuck camp fuck fuck camp picks. Fuck those guys.
Justin (DM):I mean At in any of our conversations, I'd you've never felt strong ties to represent the family. I don't know why. If anything, I've got the the opposite sense. You've not your sister, as far as I remember, went directly into the family business Yeah. Coming out of camp.
Nick (Pat):Yeah. And I think they've always expected me to. I guess I don't understand. Yeah. I don't I don't wanna be into the family business.
Nick (Pat):And they wanted me to. And this has been an argument for a year now. And now all of a sudden, we're pro adventuring because we're getting good sponsorship. I don't like was what was that about? I don't know.
Justin (DM):Do you think that that's how that happened?
Nick (Pat):I mean, feels like turned on a dime a little.
Justin (DM):Turned on a dime maybe their views, but that doesn't that doesn't mean that they're not trying their best to support you in this moment.
Nick (Pat):Love my parents. They're they are doing right by me. It's an incredibly generous thing. But I I don't know. I don't know.
Nick (Pat):It feels it feels like a betrayal.
Justin (DM):Of whom?
Nick (Pat):Of all the people here at Massey. I've ever like, don't know. It just feels I don't know.
Justin (DM):It is one of the biggest differences that you'll see as you get older is that less and less people will stop setting you up for success, and you have to start setting yourself up for success. And so I did not anticipate working at a camp coming out of the military, but it has been a great opportunity for me. And I especially didn't expect to see myself at a place I can't do anything where there's so much heart and tradition. I don't know. I think sometimes doors open for reasons.
Justin (DM):Sure. And you can't just close them because you weren't expecting that door. Fair. If you truly wanna be an adventurer, Pat, X camp may be worth considering.
Nick (Pat):I can appreciate that. I think that's fair. Okay. Back at it.
Justin (DM):Alright. Your burpees are sloppy. At ex camp, those will not fly.
Nick (Pat):Too too much, too soon, Patrick.
Justin (DM):Okay. Okay. Sorry. The Summer Solstice at Camp Do Anything is a long standing tradition. Stretching back all the way to Mazzy's father, Ergan Broadhorn, even before the formal writ of adventuring experience.
Justin (DM):Ergan believed that both professional and summer staff served as examples to young campers, and the celebration of the summer solstice was an opportunity for the summer staff specifically to flex their muscles and wit. A healthy competition is a great way to have the summer staff display oftentimes the skills that they learned previously at summers at Camp Do Anything. Anything. And the new approach this year of having Camp Do Anything versing the staff at ex camp Stelshall has only heightened this experience. The island that has been crafted in the middle of the lake on the Stellshall River is massive.
Justin (DM):Standing 20 feet above the water level, there's enough room on this island for a roller coaster, a small Ferris wheel, food stands, an arena that has a stage on it for performances, archery. Not just campers from both camps have gathered here, but this is also an opportunity for the local communities in the surrounding towns to come to camp and see vibrant tradition. Sometimes alumni will appear. Important alumni who are big donors will show up. This truly is the opportunity for Camp Do Anything to do some light PR work in the local area.
Justin (DM):And the buzz around this new tradition, hopefully, of competing between the two camps has only amplified this. The campers from Camp Do Anything are wearing the forest green and silver colors of their home turf against the yellow and blacks x camp Stelshaw colors in pure clashing vibrancy. Many people wear additional things to, additional outfits and pennants and carry flags to show even more support for specific individuals at their camp. Every once in a while, campers from both camps will intermingle in amicable conversation. But by and large, the two groups remain separated from one each other as they navigate around.
Justin (DM):Some campers have little schedules pulled out so they know that they don't miss Eleanor or they don't miss Keaton at x camp. Everyone has a day planned out for this and has been looking forward to today. How are you all feeling?
Evan (Mala):Good. Eleanor, Evandria, gave her a fresh French braid and weaved in some silver and forest green ribbons.
Nick (Pat):Pat's, over at Molla's Cabin to start the day is helping buff up the phoenix armor. Just like truly polishing it up and just getting it. Like, get all the extra little bells and whistles from Overland Outfitters just to like max out the phoenix armor just so it looks like a pro wrestler outfit a little bit.
Evan (Mala):This is gonna be great to walk up to the ring in and then take it off Yeah. To go wrestle.
Nick (Pat):It's gonna rule. It's it's all about the entrance. It's all about the presentation.
Evan (Mala):Oh, Keaton doesn't know what's gonna hit him.
Nick (Pat):Oh, he's gonna be terrified.
Evan (Mala):It's gonna be over so fast. Rules.
Justin (DM):Bunky, I don't see why you can't enchant my sword so that it multiplies by five. That that
Eric (Bunky):feels a little more dangerous to you than anyone else if I'm being honest, yanks.
Justin (DM):No risk, no reward. You know what they say. You shut the fuck up. No one wants you here.
Eric (Bunky):Yeah. That's not true, Garnish. We do want you here.
Justin (DM):Don't speak for me, Bunky.
Eric (Bunky):Well, we as a collective, as as a larger unit, we will put up with you, Garnish, the same way we put up with you, yanks. And I say that with love and glitter.
Justin (DM):Didn't feel like it.
Eric (Bunky):I just want everyone to it's a stressful day. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I do I do love the levity you bring to things.
Justin (DM):Thank you.
Nick (Pat):Okay.
Justin (DM):Well, that seemed unnecessary. Evandria,
Evan (Mala):are you
Kayla (Evandria):She's been standing in the corner this entire time slowly burning sticks into ash at her feet.
Eric (Bunky):Bunky watches that with a little bit of hesitation like, yep. I feel safe here.
Justin (DM):Hot glue is not flammable. Right?
Eric (Bunky):The hot glue is melty.
Kayla (Evandria):I've tested it. It melts.
Justin (DM):Oh, that's bad?
Kayla (Evandria):It's good for some of us.
Justin (DM):Oh, okay. Great.
Kayla (Evandria):Just kidding, Bunky. It was a joke.
Justin (DM):Do you think they'll have sphinx swirls?
Kayla (Evandria):I definitely had to prep a couple with annalur. Oh. So no doubt they'll be there.
Justin (DM):Great.
Kayla (Evandria):What? Is that your favorite food?
Justin (DM):I've never had one before, but I think so.
Kayla (Evandria):Think so.
Justin (DM):Yeah.
Kayla (Evandria):Okay.
Justin (DM):Something about the the spices sound good.
Kayla (Evandria):Well, I will tell you, having been to plenty of these types of festivals, don't overeat. That's how they get you.
Justin (DM):What are they gonna get me for?
Kayla (Evandria):They're gonna make you feel really good at the time and then really bad later on. That's all I'm saying.
Justin (DM):Seems like a human constitution problem. Well, humanoid constitution problem.
Kayla (Evandria):Yeah. Maybe that is just humanoid.
Justin (DM):I'm lucky
Kayla (Evandria):for you. Seen the way I've seen the way you eat.
Justin (DM):Yeah. It feels great.
Evan (Mala):Hey, Pat. Do you know what the flavor of pies are?
Nick (Pat):Doesn't matter. They're bit of pie
Evan (Mala):that I can't pound. Just gonna crush them all?
Nick (Pat):Every pie. I'm gonna I'm gonna try and steal someone else's pie and eat it during the round.
Evan (Mala):Power move. On top
Nick (Pat):of my pies. I'm gonna eat two pies and then take someone else's second pie before they can even start the second pie.
Evan (Mala):Do you know who you're competing against? No idea.
Kayla (Evandria):Do you guys think
Evan (Mala):Oh, wrong thing.
Kayla (Evandria):Tamara might be competing?
Nick (Pat):I mean, assume so. She's counselor.
Evan (Mala):Wasn't she injured?
Kayla (Evandria):I yeah. Her arm seemed kind of hurt so Are you all
Evan (Mala):in Mala's cabin?
Nick (Pat):You didn't ask when you were on your What? Excursion?
Kayla (Evandria):Well, I guess we were just talking about other things. I I don't I didn't really wanna she was trained here. So all I'm saying is that it would be kind of dumb for them to have her be competing against us even though she was trained here. So basically, it's like using our own skills against us.
Justin (DM):Well, she's kind of a turncoat. So wait. If you're
Kayla (Evandria):gonna I don't wanna talk about that part.
Evan (Mala):If you're gonna be the guard in the arcane competition, you may have to attack her if she's in
Kayla (Evandria):this role. Do that.
Eric (Bunky):Evander, if it came down to it in the competition, would you protect me or protect them?
Nick (Pat):I would imagine you just have
Kayla (Evandria):to Bunky.
Justin (DM):Handle the other guard. Why is that question hard for you to answer?
Kayla (Evandria):I no. I would I Eleanor bursts in.
Evan (Mala):You guys, I am nervous. I do not I need ideas for this performance. I'm performing bunch
Kayla (Evandria):of ideas in I've I thought of a bunch of good things that we could say to them to really get in their heads.
Evan (Mala):Oh, hold on. You never answered the question. Would you protect us or attack her?
Kayla (Evandria):I well, I would I I would I would attack her if if it comes down to it. I I think I I hate ex camp.
Evan (Mala):But you like Tamara.
Justin (DM):Were
Kayla (Evandria):you guys not aware of that?
Justin (DM):I mean, I knew, I guess.
Nick (Pat):Yeah. It did feel like a good time for a big reveal, but I think we all knew.
Kayla (Evandria):Okay.
Nick (Pat):I get the drama. It was
Justin (DM):All of my all the novels you let me read kinda stop before any of the things that you're doing happens. I really know
Nick (Pat):do you guys do you think you should just chat like as far as like a safe word? Some people like are into like the wrestling and like the
Kayla (Evandria):Oh, maybe maybe we should
Nick (Pat):Yeah. Just be like, hey, is it cool?
Kayla (Evandria):I I don't wanna hurt her but Yeah. I also can't let them win.
Evan (Mala):Yeah. I'll switch you. You and Tamara can wrestle and me and Keaton can go be the guards.
Kayla (Evandria):Well, I guess it depends on who's wrestling.
Evan (Mala):And you and Tamara.
Kayla (Evandria):She deeply blushes.
Justin (DM):This conversation goes on for another hour or so before you were all expected at the actual festival itself. The island is a bustle with people. There are alarms going off as people hit mallets on and send the little ball up to the bell. Everyone is having a great time. And we come to the first scheduled event, which is the wrestling event.
Justin (DM):There are a number of people gathered in the arena. It looks like there are two individuals individuals who who are are currently currently debating debating which which one will be representing X camp. You see a tall human with curly black hair that just covers his ears. He is wearing the yellow and black of X Camp Stealth shawl. His right arm, his sword arm, the sleeve has been cut off and the entire arm is exposed in stark comparison to the rest of his outfit, which covers himself.
Justin (DM):He is grinning and wherever you look, there are people looking at him. He is clearly the center of a lot of people's attention. He's a very attractive young man and he is discussing at length with probably one of the few people here that are taller than him, a large furbolg with gray skin wearing a tie dye yellow and black t shirt that, is clearly an off brand ex camp Shaw t shirt. He wears shorts that would probably be long or shorts on a normal sized humanoid, but given his height, show off far more of his leg than I think most people would feel comfortable wearing. And he is currently discussing at length who will represent the the camp for this event.
Justin (DM):Who's all prepping over here for the wrestling event?
Nick (Pat):Pat's out in the crowd just starting. Phoenix Knight. Knight. Phoenix Knight. Phoenix knight.
Nick (Pat):Phoenix knight.
Evan (Mala):Knight. As as it reaches its like crux, Mal's gonna step through the crowd as Jarre like flies in behind him leaving a trail of flame and smoke as he steps up
Justin (DM):to the ring. The star fire white and blue flames that he leaves behind him, immediately the audience erupts into applause. And at this, the discussion between Keaton Greystone and the unidentified Furbok immediately stops. Keaton puts his hand on the Furbok's chest and Keaton steps forward.
Evan (Mala):I just lift up like, still in full armor of the gauntleted finger and point at him. He looks around.
Justin (DM):Oh, realizes you're pointing at him, shrugs a little bit, and walks up to you. Keaton Greystone, nice to meet you.
Evan (Mala):Mullagora, and I'll shake his hand.
Justin (DM):I remember you from last year. I saved you from the castle.
Evan (Mala):I think we already defeated what was in the castle. You just showed up at the end and act like you claimed credit.
Justin (DM):I know. You looked pretty scared to me. Kind of familiar.
Evan (Mala):Yeah. I can be saying that when you're face down in the dirt outside this ring.
Justin (DM):I don't know when you expect that to happen. In about a minute. I don't think that's something runts can accomplish.
Nick (Pat):Well, smells like lilacs and body odor.
Evan (Mala):Yeah. Is this a
Nick (Pat):It's like lilacs covering body odor. I
Evan (Mala):will like flip two of the like latches on my armor as the whole piece just falls off at once, and it's just a shirtless, short short, like, mollusk sitting there. Alright. We're standing there.
Justin (DM):The two of you square up inside this wrestling mat circle. The objective of this is to just push the other person out of the circle. It is a best of three. To begin, Keaton kinda squares up, across from you. Both of you put your hands on each other's shoulders, and we'll do just a straight athletics to athletics check for the first roll.
Evan (Mala):Can I instantaneously use my adrenaline rush? It allows me to have dash as a bonus action to like hit him hard right off the bat.
Justin (DM):Yeah. I'll let you roll with advantage for this first one.
Evan (Mala):Hell yeah. Just like full force into my feet like bum rush him. That's a nat 20.
Justin (DM):I also rolled a nat 20. Straight up also rolled a nat 20. Immediately, you rush right at him, and it is like hitting a wall. The everyone on the outside, it almost has an audible quality to it.
Evan (Mala):Like a sat like a sonic boom. Yeah. Like a boom.
Justin (DM):There is just this immediate dead wall, both of you, neither of you moving. Keaton, being up close to him, you see that he is surprised at this. He, for sure, thought that this was going to be in the bag, given that you are a number of inches shorter than him. But you're a bit stockier and this is a dead even tie. Roll again.
Justin (DM):Just a straight athletic I was
Evan (Mala):so excited about that 20.
Justin (DM):I also was excited about 20.
Evan (Mala):Good moment, but damn. I got a nine.
Justin (DM):I got a net one. I
Evan (Mala):wanna like I would like after we clash and since I'm shorter, I wanna like pick him up off the ground and like physically push him back.
Justin (DM):Yeah. You pick him up, he starts to squirm a little bit and try to break out. To actually push him out of the ring, you have to beat a DC, a a saving throw, specifically of 17 to throw him out of the ring.
Evan (Mala):So I'm doing the saving throw?
Justin (DM):Yes. He's doing this thing. Not running
Nick (Pat):at all.
Justin (DM):You just have to get a 17. Otherwise, he'll push you back into the middle.
Evan (Mala):And this is a saving throw in athletics?
Justin (DM):Correct.
Evan (Mala):Okay.
Justin (DM):Oh, I'm sorry. No. This is not because you are not in the back end. I would have to beat a 17 if it were. You just have to beat a 17 athletics, period.
Evan (Mala):Okay. Come on. I'm gonna go like, as I'm picking him
Justin (DM):up, I'm gonna let go of of one hand and like Phoenix Knight.
Evan (Mala):Throw my arm up for the crowd to start
Nick (Pat):cheering Oh, confident. Knight. Phoenix Knight.
Evan (Mala):That's an 11.
Justin (DM):He pushes you back into the middle. You pulled up that arm and he used it to his full advantage, gets his feet planted back on the ground and you are now back in the center of the ring. Versus athletics check. Seven. I rolled a 14, so I got a 19 total.
Justin (DM):He pushes you back into the edge of the circle. Give me your strength as your eight plus proficiency plus your strength modifier, that's what I have to beat to get you out of the ring. You don't have to roll at all. Oh, 13. 13.
Justin (DM):So I just have to beat a 13.
Evan (Mala):That's not how it happened last time.
Justin (DM):I rolled a two, so I got a seven.
Evan (Mala):So I pushed him back to the center.
Justin (DM):You push him back into the center, it is now athletics check versus athletics check.
Nick (Pat):Phoenix Knight. Phoenix Knight.
Justin (DM):I got a 17 total.
Evan (Mala):I got a nat one, so it's a six.
Justin (DM):He pushes you back into your corner. The sweat that he is I see, you used all your strength in that first push.
Evan (Mala):Can I use my second adrenaline rush to like give him disadvantage on pushing me out?
Justin (DM):Yeah. I rolled an 11 and a 12, giving me a total of 16.
Evan (Mala):Listen, the dice, my dice, they hate me.
Justin (DM):Alright? He pushes you out of the ring, that is one victory for it's best of three. That's one victory for
Evan (Mala):Oh, just oh, I thought It's best
Justin (DM):of three.
Kayla (Evandria):Oh. Hell yeah. Oh, my hope.
Justin (DM):We'll pivot over to archery.
Kayla (Evandria):We'll pivot
Justin (DM):over to archery. Are a number of bullseyes set up, and you see, this is an area where, participants, campers, get to have their own little section where they can, like, shoot at their own archery, bullseyes. But you see that Tamara has got a a fetching shock pink dress on that the hem of the dress at the bottom is cut at an angle, which is directly opposed to the angle that's across her shoulder, kind of making a triangular dress. And she has a beautiful white bow and quiver that she has been practicing for the last thirty minutes. Who is representing, Camp Do Anything at Archery?
Kayla (Evandria):Evandria steps up. Oh, Tamara knows what she's doing.
Justin (DM):Well, good to see you again.
Kayla (Evandria):Hello, Tamara. I Pleasantries. Pleasantries.
Justin (DM):Pleasantries. Pleasantries.
Kayla (Evandria):Certainly, a unique fashion choice.
Justin (DM):Thank you. It matches my hair.
Kayla (Evandria):She takes a deep breath in, lets it out, turns around and walks to her station.
Evan (Mala):Chaos, KL Wynn. Best of luck. It's kale win, not lose.
Kayla (Evandria):Same you. To you.
Justin (DM):Alright. Again, this is best of three. So it's just gonna be shooting four arrows and how well your roll is determines how close to the bull's eye you are. Anything above at or above a 25 is a bull's eye. So roll two, you'll shoot two arrows.
Justin (DM):I'll shoot two arrows. You'll shoot two arrows. I'll shoot two arrows.
Kayla (Evandria):Okay.
Justin (DM):So go ahead and roll two attack rolls to start.
Kayla (Evandria):A 20 and a 21.
Justin (DM):Nice. Yeah.
Evan (Mala):That is Six
Justin (DM):points for your first two arrows. Tamara, you see her cock an eyebrow in your direction.
Kayla (Evandria):Glances over and gives a toothy grin.
Justin (DM):Immediately, Tamara looks away. And she's gonna shoot two arrows. I'm rolling like fire. I rolled a nat 20 and I got a 26. She gets two bulls eyes directly in the middle for a total of eight points.
Nick (Pat):Are these all happening simultaneous
Justin (DM):Yep. These events are happening simultaneously.
Nick (Pat):Pat is somehow at every event, just sprinting around and like it's super Jack that comes up to me and starts rubbing the back like shoulders. I relax. You're good. You've got it. You've got it.
Nick (Pat):She's cute. She's not that cute. You got it. Let's go. Come on.
Evan (Mala):And then you run over and jump. Come on. She's not that cute.
Kayla (Evandria):She's cute, But she's not that cute. She's cute. But she's not that cute. Hey, remember. She chants to herself.
Kayla (Evandria):Remember
Nick (Pat):how mean you were last year?
Kayla (Evandria):Yes. Ten minutes of that. Okay.
Justin (DM):Next two arrows.
Kayla (Evandria):Tamara, I always thought you had potential even if it took longer than expected.
Evan (Mala):Her mouth
Nick (Pat):just gates open as
Justin (DM):you fire the next two arrows.
Kayla (Evandria):She then glances and shoots and hits a 23 and a 25.
Justin (DM):Yes. Incredible. A twenty three and twenty five. That's seven more points for a total of 13 points. Alright.
Justin (DM):Tamara
Eric (Bunky):has eight points. Tamara has disadvantage?
Justin (DM):Tamara has disadvantage for her first one, which is lucky that means she rolls a three, which means she the first arrow misses entirely.
Evan (Mala):I hope this was worth it. You're ruining this entire relationship.
Justin (DM):You just cock blocked
Nick (Pat):yourself with an arrow.
Justin (DM):Shrugs it off, gives her shoulders a little shimmy, and grabs the last arrow in her quiver, takes aim. Meanwhile, back at the wrestling thing.
Kayla (Evandria):Oh my god.
Justin (DM):The second round for the
Nick (Pat):wrestling I'm
Kayla (Evandria):full on sweating.
Evan (Mala):Somehow, we're also now
Nick (Pat):rubbing ball and chill. You got it. You got it. This guy's pretty pretty boring. Shit.
Nick (Pat):Pretty boring.
Evan (Mala):Shit. Just smells. The smell is so just ridiculous. Even when he's sweating. He smells like lilac.
Nick (Pat):Got it. You got it. You got it.
Evan (Mala):Just give me a quick second and I'm gonna get down and pray to Mirren.
Justin (DM):Great.
Evan (Mala):Not for any bonuses or anything, just like to focus in, kinda hone in that. But also, I'm gonna take a quick look around. Who who is here watching? Like, it pretty much everybody? Is there a bunch of like, ex camp people here?
Justin (DM):Oh, yeah. There's a bunch of ex camp people here. I would say there's maybe like 40 people in total in the stands kind of watching between campers and just various town folk. I'm gonna do
Evan (Mala):I see any staff here from ex camp?
Justin (DM):You would see an individual you have not recognized before. He is wearing a program officer, a program manager, a name tag, and it says Channing Gorby on it. He is a, adult human male. He also has the same right arm, no sleeve, but on his arm, an intricate lacework of a tattoo covers his arm from probably mid shoulder all the way down to his wrist, which you would recognize him as being a Paladin of Roneer, the god of law and destiny. So as part of the prayer, just
Evan (Mala):being aware that we are tracking some stuff and x camp is x camp. Can I cast a tech good and evil and see if anyone in the crowd or anybody gives me the heebie jeebies?
Justin (DM):I just have to look up what actually that spell does. In range of this spell, you would pick up on Astrid, as she is Faye. She is currently over, discussing and reviewing, a display of flowers that some of the campers have created, just as like decoration and she's discussing, that. So that pings on your radar. The other thing you pick up on is an ambiance of positive energy that seems to infuse the very air around you.
Justin (DM):And it almost feels while it feels buoyant, it also feels shallow. Almost like a pateen of or a lacquer of positive energy that is suffusing the entire island. You would pick up this as like almost like a consecration spell or a hallow spell, but typically that changes the very nature of a thing. This one almost feels like a blanket of a hollow spell. Like someone just quickly threw a layer of holiness over everything, but it's not deep.
Justin (DM):Can I feel
Evan (Mala):it coming from any specific space?
Justin (DM):No. It like suffuses the very structure of everything around you.
Evan (Mala):Gotcha. And I wouldn't find that weird at all.
Justin (DM):Oh, it's very it's very weird.
Evan (Mala):But like because it's positive energies that I shouldn't take it as a negative. I'm gonna take it as as I'm always thinking of it. Alright. Yeah. Just gonna let that go.
Evan (Mala):Alright.
Nick (Pat):Yep. Okay.
Evan (Mala):Yeah. After doing that and kinda looking around, feeling that energy, can I try to tap into it all? Like if can I try to
Nick (Pat):Yeah?
Evan (Mala):Take some of it in for this this bout?
Justin (DM):Yeah. Can I tell if
Evan (Mala):Keaton's doing anything with this? Like get Paladin me to Paladin, like is he doing anything with this energy?
Justin (DM):Give me an investigation check. 12. You do not see him registering it or doing anything with it. He seems to be discussing something with this fur bulge pretty at length, but aside from that, nothing else.
Evan (Mala):Alright. I'm gonna pick up some dirt, rub it between my hands, put it on my face a little bit, kinda get all grungy. Great. See if I can like feel the positive vibes, and then step up to the the ring.
Justin (DM):If you roll a 19, it will count as a crit. Yeah. For just this period of time.
Evan (Mala):I just chuck them from the
Nick (Pat):Phoenix Knight. Phoenix Knight.
Justin (DM):First roll. Phoenix Knight. Athletics versus Athletics.
Evan (Mala):I got an 18 on the dice. That's a 23.
Justin (DM):I rolled a net one. Yes.
Evan (Mala):So I just went.
Justin (DM):You immediately push him back. I will give you advantage on pushing him out. Whoo. You catch him by surprise this time. I think you're ready for his, like, more immovable object approach to this, and you have advantage on pushing him out of the ring.
Evan (Mala):Alright. I'm gonna drop my head and try to like like buck him into the air. Yeah.
Justin (DM):Gotta be a 17.
Evan (Mala):I have advantage.
Justin (DM):You have advantage.
Evan (Mala):That's a crit. Yeah.
Nick (Pat):I want him like 30 feet.
Justin (DM):I wanna fucking toss the guy, like ragdoll him. There are practice rings, like smaller practice rings, and he fully lands in a different practice ring. At first, it's silent, and then the roar happens as people are
Evan (Mala):Phoenix Knight. Phoenix Knight. Phoenix Knight. Phoenix Knight.
Justin (DM):Great. A much faster I'm
Evan (Mala):gonna go over and help him up.
Justin (DM):He is shocked and he bats your hand It himself. We may be enemies, but we can still be
Evan (Mala):nice about it. And I'm just gonna head back to Pat and just like wait for Pat to hype me up again. Yeah.
Justin (DM):See he had a retort, but because you walked away, you get the last word.
Kayla (Evandria):That's no pigeon. That's a fucking phoenix. Woo.
Justin (DM):Great. Back at the archery. Tamara gets to go first this round. She takes out two arrows and lets them loose. I rolled another nat 20 Jesus Christ.
Justin (DM):At a 16 for a total of Yes. Seven more points. So she starts with seven points.
Kayla (Evandria):She said Oh, for round two.
Justin (DM):For Yeah. This counts
Kayla (Evandria):as a, like, win or lose.
Justin (DM):Yes. Yes. So you have one win. There's one win for each side in wrestling.
Kayla (Evandria):Evandria feels locked in. She pays no mind to anyone else in the world, just seems to go silent. Like one of those A 23 and a 16.
Justin (DM):That's four and two points for a total of six. So it's currently seven to six.
Nick (Pat):Pat's back over at the retreat out breath, just points at him in here, just is like, you got it, you got it. And then walks over right behind Amara and just goes, hey, I know she's being mean, but she's like she's like super super into you. So like don't like, it's What? It's just for competition. Don't worry.
Nick (Pat):You you it's your turn. You're it's your turn. You gotta go. You gotta go. You gotta go.
Justin (DM):You see she's like flustered and she fumbles for an arrow for a hot minute. Disadvantage. Disadvantage. Disadvantage. You've got one disadvantage.
Justin (DM):You're not kidding.
Nick (Pat):There was. We're just shot.
Justin (DM):The first arrow flies. She gets a three for a total of nine and misses again. Yes. Yes. Yes.
Justin (DM):She's like So you see her mumbling under her breast. I wouldn't miss my final electric blast. Arrows are stupid. Her second arrow is a 20 for three points. So she has a total of 10 points.
Justin (DM):You need five to beat.
Kayla (Evandria):She takes a deep breath. Her eyes go from, you know, looking at that target to being locked into the center of that target. And she rolls two nat twenties. She rolls two nat twenties.
Evan (Mala):Incredible. I'm
Kayla (Evandria):shaking.
Justin (DM):Immediately, again, a roar from the crowd. You even look over and Tamara is clapping as she is impressed by the absolute dead shot that you were proving to be.
Nick (Pat):That lifts Evandria up. Is tossing yikes in the air. Let's go.
Justin (DM):Hell win. With three points officially on the board for Camp Do Anything, You are now in the lead. Yeah.
Eric (Bunky):Bunky has been watching from the air with Garnish supporting him with his helicopter arms and so then after a Ventrionist victory, does a little loop tossing glitter in the air in celebration.
Justin (DM):Great. It like confetti falls down and gets Tamara walks away from it. She does not want glitter in her hair. We return one to one over here in the wrestling ring.
Evan (Mala):Moll is just like pacing back and forth, staring at Keaton, like occasionally hitting his chest a little bit.
Justin (DM):Don't get too tired over there. You're gonna need everything you've got.
Evan (Mala):Oh, we're just getting started.
Justin (DM):Actually, we're not. Last round. He's wilting. Alright. Athletics versus athletics.
Evan (Mala):Did you did you did a crit?
Justin (DM):I crit again.
Kayla (Evandria):Oh, what the fuck?
Justin (DM):He literally on fire. I got
Evan (Mala):a 12.
Justin (DM):Happening. Yeah. So I got a that's a victory for me.
Evan (Mala):As he grapples me and gets his head in, I'm just like, you're starting to smell bad. Your cologne's wearing off.
Justin (DM):Yeah. I'm just shocked I've had to try a little bit more than I expected. I guess that's a compliment to you. But I guess I'm shocked orcs can tell what a bad smell is.
Kayla (Evandria):A Vandry
Evan (Mala):to to cast on him or do?
Kayla (Evandria):Now that she's finished with her event, she's back over and she goes, hey Keaton, your inferiority complex is fully justified. Great.
Justin (DM):I just have to beat a 13.
Evan (Mala):I don't have I I don't agree with this, but that's fine.
Justin (DM):Pushing you out. I gotta beat a 13.
Evan (Mala):Another nat 20. Let's see it.
Justin (DM):Six plus six is 12.
Evan (Mala):Back to the center, baby.
Justin (DM):Center. Let's go. You He is not able to push you out. What'd you get?
Evan (Mala):I got a 15.
Justin (DM):I got nine plus six is also a 15. Jesus. Middle. You hear him grunting. He is starting to get tired.
Justin (DM):He really needed to push you out in that first round.
Evan (Mala):You need to heal yourself or you're doing okay?
Justin (DM):I don't think you could hurt me if you tried.
Evan (Mala):Seventeen? Nine.
Justin (DM):God. He pushes you back into your your corner of the ring. Gotta beat a 13. That 20.
Evan (Mala):That's funny. Fuck. Which, are you using your punishing dice?
Justin (DM):Is that what's happening right switching now? Up my dice this whole time. This is rigged against me.
Kayla (Evandria):This is
Justin (DM):why I You gotta keep your dice in the moonlight. Yeah. Nat 20. He pushes you out. There's a roar from the crowd as ex camp Stellshaw says, ex camp s.
Justin (DM):Ex camp s, x camp s. No one wants to cheer on him. Alright. It is three points to three points.
Evan (Mala):I will turn to the crowd, the the can't do anything crowd. I'll look at the campers who are watching and just yell out, never give up, never surrender. We'll get them in the next one and like start going.
Justin (DM):Everyone, the camp the the Camp Do Anything children that are kind of watching you like clap and cheer and do not seem deterred by this loss.
