The Drop with Danno on GFN 광주영어방송

As broadcast October 10, 2023 with plenty of friends in tow.  Tonight we open with David Skimming, the mastermind behind the Lunar Isles project, which has made some of the best guitar-centric surf dreams in indie anywhere over the past few years, not just in Korea.  His latest is a lovely upbeat affair that is the perfect way to get back into the mode after the Busking World Cup and a bevvy of holidays here in Korea.  After that, we had plenty of friends to ride with tonight, as Broken Baby, Scoobert Doobert, and Otis Kane all had fresh cuts to feature in part one, and there was plenty more in store after that with notable joints just out from Masego, Meernaa, veronicavon, Kevin Abstract, and a slew of other worthies, including a great new album from Norwegian cinematic instrumental outfit Orion's Belte called Women, which is absolutely superb and full of surprises.

Facts
Lunar Isles – Arrival
- Our main man out of Scotland here in Korea just keeps churning out the consistent dreamy quality, and this single just dropped last Friday.
- You might remember the artist dropping the fantastic Right Way Round LP earlier in the year, and this would be the latest in an absolutely stellar discography that continuously metastasizes, as we’ve now seen three albums, two EP’s and a slew of singles from true name David Skimming in the period of just a few years’ time.
- Props to the artist for mailing us this joint prior to it dropping last Friday as well, big up David. We’re listening always down here.
Scoobert Doobert – All I Need
- Another dear friend of the show right here, the mystery man in the Scooby Doo mask based in SD, CA.
- Just a standalone single here, but nice stuff as usual. Check out the artist’s remix and production work with Japanese group CHAI, along with the very high quality solo stuff that always seems to be streaming forth.
Wild Nothing – Dial Tone
- This is the latest single from Jack Tatum’s upcoming fifth album, due out Oct 27.
- The album is called Hold, and is out courtesy of Captured Tracks. Definitely looking forward to that.
Broken Baby – Ugly
- And by now this is becoming a theme, as these two are an absolute superfave here at Drop Central.
- The band are Amber Bollinger and Alex Dezen, based in LA, and they run Poor Man Records as well as doing their inimitable thing as the band that’s for punching your fist in the air and driving a little too fast.
Polo & Pan – Chamallow
- Just out this Friday from the French stalwarts of all things future & dance is Carossel do Tempo, which is their latest EP.
- Always something different to behold, but always gets a couple shakes on the dancefloor, it seems the band have moved up in the world as they’re now with a sublabel on Virgin. Their live DJ mixes on the tube with all the videos you can watch is also very good if you wanna go real deep.
Kraak & Smaak feat Otis Kane – Ready for Ya
- Great collab here, as one of our favorites out of LA have teamed up with Belgian duo Kraak & Smaak here.
- The track is the result of a studio session in LA earlier this year between the three of them, and the result is this soul dance fusion cut is a beaut.
IzyBeats w/ Masego & Toian – Tipsy
- This is a tune that fans have been anticipating for a while, and Friday finally saw the tune drop.
- As you’d expect, IzyBeats on the cut is doing a wonderful job, but what’s notable here is the chemistry between Masego and Toian as they effortlessly trade verses on the vox, displaying their lyrical prowess and captivating deliveries.

Part 2
Meernaa – Love Is Good
Robohands – Driven
Holy Hive & The Shacks – Middle of the Night
Mndsgn – MakeU
super natural lime – The Boat
Pelicat – Safe & Sound
veronicavon – Dreamgirl

Facts
Meernaa – Love Is Good
- Just out this weekend is t/n Carly Bond’s new album So Far So Good.
- And it certainly has been thus far with albums for the Oakland-based artist, whose debut Heart Hunger LP was a tremendous album. We still have yet to give this one a full spin due to the Buskers Madness, but we’ll certainly add it to the list tonight.
Robohands – Driven
- Another album to look forward to from our friend Andy Baxter, whose based in London.
- Oct 27 will see Baxter drop the Palms LP, with this just having dropped last week, and if you wanna take a deeper dive, 2018’s Green LP is a fabulous record to check out, pretty much permanently on our playlst.
Holy Hive & The Shacks – Middle of the Night
- This is an album we’ve been very much looking forward to here at Drop Central and it’s finally here.
- Big Crown Vaults Vol 3 is finally out, and unbeknownst to the public since the band dropped their 2nd eponymous LP, they’ve broken up to pursue other endeavors, but these Vaults records from Big Crown are always choice, so go give it a spin if you dug that.
Mndsgn – MakeU
- Another album we’re very excited to see drop in full as of last Friday is this one from Peanut Butter Wolf’s imprint Stones Throw.
- Snaxxx (note sp.) is the title of the record, and the artist like the label is based in LA, the brainchild of Ringgo Archeta.
super natural lime – The Boat
- Not a lot of info to glean here, but this band is a duo consisting of Alex Stankovic and Sam Hill.
- The song is the band’s debut single, so congratulations on a first release and one that’s getting some good attention over the weekend, but not much more to say here. Nice tune though.
Pelicat – Safe & Sound
- This is a band we welcomed to the show several years ago that just dropped a new EP over the weekend, of which this is the title track.
- The band are a quartet of friends focused on a vintage, warm sound in their music inspired by the likes of George Harrison and Harry Nilsson.
veronicavon – Dreamgirl
- This tune was just premiered by Under The Radar magazine over the weekend and the artist announced their debut LP in the process.
- The album is called Deep End and is out February 9th, and props to our friend Human Barbie for hipping us to this excellent band.

Honeywhip – Polaroid

bed bug guru – Tightrope
Born Days – Dreams
A Beacon School – Mantra

Facts
Katie Ferrara – Loud and Proud
- As you may know, the 2nd edition of The Buskers World Cup finished over this past weekend, and one of the originators in last year’s competition is out with this new joint as of Friday.
- Nothing larger announced like an EP or album, but frequent collaborator Patrick Joseph produced and helped Ferrara bring this to the world.
Honeywhip – Polaroid
- Staying in Cali but going up to SF with our favorite sad lil bops band right here, this is the latest standalone from the band that started out in Japan.
- Check out their other works if you liked that cut, pretty good band.
Kevin Abstract – Blanket
- For those not familiar, the artist here is t/n Clifford Simpson, who is better known as the frontman on the mic & founding member of Brockhampton.
- Abstract played a couple of intimate shows on the West Coast prior to dropping this single over the weekend, and this tune marks a bit of a switch stylistically from previous solo works.
bed bug guru – Tightrope
- Good rock single right here, just out over the weekend with a cutting edge to it.
- The band are out of Gainesville, FL and were formed while Jake Knoechel and Shane Malone were students at the U of F.
Born Days – Dreams
- This is the project of Melissa Harris, who’s a very talented musician out of Chicago.
- Dreams comes on the heels of the appropriately titled My Little Dark LP, which just dropped on Friday and is their debut album.
A Beacon School – Mantra
- It kind of feels like this album is already out as there have been quite a few breadcrumbs dropped over the past while.
- However, yoyo by A Beacon School will be dropping in full this Friday, so keep eyes and ears peeled, this should be a tremendous album.

Part 4 – Fresh K Cuts

Busty & The Bass feat Son Little – Give Me A Smile
- This Montreal-based jazz massive keep pinging our ears here at Drop Central, and this tune just out over the weekend heralds something major.
- Forever Never Cares is the title, and arrives Nov 17 with the likes of Terrace Martin, Magi Merlin, and Clerel. This would be the follow-up to 2020’s Eddie LP if you wanna get more from them.
Hala – Diamond Tears feat Emily Parrish
- This is an artist that keeps showing up with more frequency on our screens, and this is the b side on a new 7” single the “borderless” Detroit artist put out over the weekend.
- T/n Ian Ruhala, the other joint on the near side of the record is called Run to You if you wanna give all the goods a whirl.
Prateek Kuhad – Mulaqat
- One of our favorites out of India right here, and we are certainly not alone in the world by any stretch.
- This tune explores the deep emotions and significance attached to a serendipitous meeting with someone who brings immense love, joy, and fulfillment to the singer's life. It captures the beauty of connection, passion, and the overwhelming feeling of finding one's soulmate.
Lake Street Dive feat Madison Cunningham – Neighbor Song
- For those of you out there who are regular listeners with a decent memory, Madison Cunningham is a rising artist that we’ve played on the show plenty of times over the past few years.
- Here, we see Cunningham collab with the NYC-based collective Lake Street Dive. The song itself is something they’ve been playing live for a while now and has become a fan favorite, so this is a new twist on their staple joint.
Georgia Gets By – Fish Bird Baby Boy
- This is both the titular and final track on a debut EP from t/n Georgia Nott which just dropped on Friday.
- The artist has previously only played with the indie band BROODS, but this would be the first time Nott has ventured out solo.
Orions Belte feat Oyvind Torvund – I Will Always Miss You
Orions Belte feat Louien – When You’re Gone I’ll Be Gone
- To close the gig tonight, we’ll highlight a new album out from one of our favorite Norwegian cinematic instrumental outfits.
- Women by Orions Belte just dropped last Friday, and we’ll play a couple joints to walk us out the radiological door this evening.
