The ANBRWY Podcast focuses on understanding the systems that impact our lives...how they shape what we believe, how we show up (or don’t), and how those choices ripple back into our communities, our country, and, by extension, the world.
ANBRWY creates space to slow down polarized narratives around politics, public policy, culture, and power, so we can think through and understand what is happening.
(Seriously..how many 'Breaking News' stories highlighting something happening that's 'unprecedented' can a person handle each day?)
0:00 Voter Rolls, Mail-In Ballots, to SAVE Act, DHS warning states, birthright citizenship, redrawn maps, border control, immigration, war powers, all at once.
0:16 So why is ANBRWY making a season out of this? I talk about voting, or even politics. I wondered that when I started this back in February for months when I stopped and then when I started again now.
0:34 It's because no matter where you or I stand or if we've checked out completely, this is happening, whether we're watching or not.
0:44 And here's the thing, we're hearing from every direction right now, the Constitution is in peril. So if, by some extent, that is true, Now is the time we learn together how the system is actually meant to work.
1:01 Welcome to a new season of an ANBRWY podcast, Thread of Freedom. Our Constitution that everyone is referencing as part of an argument, it's the foundation this nation is built on, not the whole house, the foundation because our states build on top of it.
1:20 A state can give us more protection than the federal baseline. It can't give us less. So the first thing I invite you to do is to check out your state's constitution.
1:31 That can be your first move. Because our state government runs parallel to the federal one, not underneath it. Same three branches, same checks and balances.
1:43 And those are the officials writing and enforcing the laws we live under day by day. Then, down another level to our community is our local government, school boards, city officials, the people deciding what's happening in our community and in our schools.
2:02 Local, state, federal. The thread runs through all three. And sometimes, things blur where one level ends and the next begins.
2:15 Why there's such argument about how something should work that are core to our foundational principles is what we will be untangling together in each episode.
2:26 So how important is November midterms and how much weight do our votes actually carry and why is this the first episode?
2:34 There are 435 seats in the U.S. House, 33 Senate seats, plus two special elections filling seats vacated by now Vice President Vance and now Secretary of State Rubio.
2:48 There's also five of the House's six non-voting delegates that are being voted on. That's the federal layer. Those we vote for are going to be the people that will serve as an extension of us and the federal government.
3:02 your state elections decide how your state is governed and parallel to that of the federal. We're not just sending people to offices.
3:12 We're sending guardians of our state constitution as a resident and of our constitutional rights as a citizen of the United States.
3:20 They are there to be the checks in the system that balances power. If any of that peril is real, these are the people who'd be doing the balancing.
3:31 As equally as important, or any of our local races that are up for election, because that's where our voice can be the loudest.
3:40 So let's find out who's on the ballot, as people, not as the banner they're running under. Our threat of freedom reaches all the way to the top, but it starts here, in our local voting booth.
3:53 I invite you to go look at who's actually on your ballot and sit with questions that may surface, such as, is this person going to serve the people or the party?
4:05 Does this person align with my overall beliefs for the country as a whole? And is this person the best guardian to hold my thread of freedom?
4:17 You can find links to both your state election information and your state constitutions at ANBRWY under the episode one source list.
4:29 That's ANBRWY.com. Let's remember, knowledge truly is power, as cliché as it sounds. And even if we don't have all of the answers just yet, our vote can and does matter.
4:48 Hit subscribe to follow the Thread of Freedom. Through the headlines and the packaging they come in, we'll be asking whether our system is working as intended or straining under a shift in the checks and balances of power.
5:04 See you next time.
