Like a master surveyor, Jesus gives us clear directions to find a fulfilling, purpose-filled relationship with Himself - a map to the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Charted is a daily devotional written by the junior class at Fountainview Academy (Class of 2019). Based on the book Steps to Christ, this book explores the path to the Originator and Provider of Genuine Joy. We don't have to be confused about the way. The certainty is in the journey: divinely Charted.
Surrender all your plans to Him, to be carried out or given up as His
providence shall indicate. Thus day by day you may be giving your
life into the hands of God, and thus your life will be molded more and
more after the life of Christ. – Steps to Christ, pg. 70
With a gasp of horror, simultaneous with the skidding of tires,
I could only watch helplessly as the high-speed chase just meters
ahead of our own car took a turn for the worse—literally.
Spinning out of control and headed for the edge of a sheer
drop off, the pursuing vehicle swerved around the corner and out of
view, while the one being pursued managed to just barely keep all
four wheels on the pavement and continue on the road, making its
dramatic, movie-like escape.
“Are they okay?” I questioned, breathlessly, lifting my foot from
the accelerator. Without a definite answer from either parent, I simply
gripped the steering wheel tighter before slowly, cautiously, easing
around the corner. The scent of charred rubber and the sound of a
revving engine met my senses as I took in the sight of the crashed
vehicle. Billows of smoke spiraled skyward from the sandy colored car,
as the driver attempted in vain to escape the ditch they had fallen into
just a few short feet away from the edge of the cliff.
Infuriated revving sounded behind me as I urged my vehicle
forward and past the wreck. Keeping my eyes fixed on the asphalt
in front of me, I continued on the familiar road home. All the while, I
couldn’t keep my mind off of the accident we had just witnessed.
Shaking my head in disbelief, I pondered the reason someone
would drive so carelessly, risking their own life in the process.
Immediately, my conscience reprimanded me, reminding me that I was
a lot like the arrogant driver when it came to my relationship with God.
Recklessly speeding through life and deviating from His perfect path,
I don’t take time to slow down and consider the Lord’s plans. Before
I know it, I’m spinning out of control. God, in His gentle mercy, allows
me to fall, but never beyond His outstretched hand.
