I try to get a good 2 - 8 hours of sleep per night. Sometimes I record a podcast instead.

What is Conversations with My Night Brain?

Talking with myself - or sometimes a guest - about the things that keep us up at night. New episodes released whenever there's something to talk about. As of 2025, this podcast is still under construction. I'm building the plane while flying. You've been warned.

Welcome to Five Quick Things
for August 26th, 2025.

Number one, my youngest
kids started braces.

Two years of monthly payments, knock on
wood, that are just under $300 a month.

Right now we actually have two
kids that we're paying for and

no benefits to cover any of it.

So having been someone who refused braces
and then ended up paying for it for the

rest of my life with hard to reach areas
and cavities, I know it's worth it.

Still not fun.

Number two, the Selfa
Day project continues.

Two things I didn't factor in are that my
Instagram feed now looks very vain because

I rarely post anything else on there.

Some days I don't feel like posting,
and yet I sort of have to obviously

self-imposed, but building up a
streak of multiple days in a row

is a good way to motivate me.

I should maybe try something
like exercise next, number three.

Summer continues Unlike most everyone
else I see on social media, I'm in

denial that summer is almost at an
end, and the weather this week here

in Saskatchewan will be nearing
30 degrees Celsius most days.

So it's helping in my denial.

we get so little warm weather,
and as much as I do enjoy fall, I

really want to continue soaking in
the heat from morning until night.

Number four.

Wednesday was binged as a
counterpoint to that as a family.

This last weekend we talked about
watching Wednesday season two,

which recently came out on Netflix.

Half of us there's five,
so you do the math.

Had seen season one, so we binged
season one of Wednesday on Saturday

and Sunday this weekend, even though
it, it's beautiful outside now.

We'll wait for colder weather to start
season two or maybe binge it on Friday.

Number five.

Five quick things over
the course of a few days.

I start each new episode of Five Quick
Things with a new note in Apple Notes.

It fills in the date and gives me
five numbered spots to fill in.

The original idea was that I'd record when
I had five on that day, but I've realized

now that it works better if I just wait
until I have five quick things, regardless

of whether they're on the same day.

So this episode is the first
experiment in that method, The date

will remain the day of the episode
is actually recorded and published.

I just had to double check that I actually
got that right on this one, so hopefully

that doesn't upset any listeners who
paid not any money for these episodes

under a slightly different premise.
