Good morning.
And welcome to morning cereal
Okay, good morning and welcome to Monday
and the last day of March and we're
moving into Q2 of the year already
It's hard to believe but I for one am
ready for some of those April showers to
usher in those May flowers and
speaking of colorful flowers today is
National Crayola Crayon Day and
Apparently there are over 400 colors.
Here are some of the more colorful names
of colors Crayola has created
Inchworm, Jazberry
Jam, Macaroni and Cheese,
Razzmatazz and Fuzzy Wuzzy.
I thought that one was a bear
Well today is also National Bunsen Burner
Day and it's celebrating science
But be careful when using Bunsen burners
and don't get too close or there is a
potential you may
accidentally burn off your
Eyelashes now I may or may not be
speaking from personal experience here.
I'm just trying to
provide a public service
And lastly, it's American Crossword
Puzzle Week. Likely one of those Crayola
crown colors will turn
up in one of the puzzles
Well, our quote today is from Ewan
McGregor and one of his famous
characters, Obi-Wan Kenobi
He is also likely in a crossword puzzle
given how he spells the
first two words of his name
But Ewan McGregor said quote "Then one
day when you least expect it the great
adventure finds you"
And I don't know about you
But sometimes I feel like I'm still
waiting for that great adventure to find
me and then I think I'm living it
I'm smack dab right in the middle of it
Well today's news facts and birthdays are
for March 31st and we're gonna go back to
1889 when on this date the Eiffel Tower
officially opened for dignitaries and an
award ceremony in Paris
Now the Eiffel Tower is 300 meters high
and it held the record for the tallest
man-made structure for over 41 years
then moving up to
1985 on this date the first edition of
WrestleMania was held in New York now. No
doubt. I saw this at some
point given it was headlined by
Mr. T and Hulk Hogan along with Rowdy
Roddy Piper and Mr. Wonderful and that's
a different Mr. Wonderful than
maybe you guys all know today
Then in 1999 on this date one of my
favorite sci-fi movies
of all time was released
It was The Matrix
Well, happy birthday to you if today is
your birthday you share a birthday with
our only hope Ewan
McGregor. He's 54 today
self-proclaimed inventor of the internets
Al Gore he's 77 and
Actor who just can't get enough cowbell.
That's Christopher
Walken. He's 82 today and
the number one song on this date back in
1988 was Man in the Mirror by Michael
Jackson and this song was the fourth of
five total number one hits
from Michael's bad album and
this song Man in the Mirror was actually
the final song added to the album and
In fact an instrumental version of Man in
the Mirror played at Michael's funeral
Interestingly the same choir that sang in
this song also sang in Madonna's like a
prayer and Rick Astley's cry for help
Well speaking of cries for help, well,
maybe just a cry for some
very healthy self-improvement
Let's get you ready for this week with my
takeaways from chapter 8 of part 4 of
Dale Carnegie's How to Win
Friends and Influence People
and in this chapter entitled
Make the Fault Seem Easy to Correct
Carnegie right away points out that
through encouraging others
that act of encouragement
That provides hope and it plants those
seeds of wanting to
excel in the other person
Carnegie says that if we tell people they
are doing something all wrong
That they're stupid or
they're dumb at something
Then we are robbing them of all the
incentive to try and prove at it
Instead Carnegie says quote be liberal
with your encouragement
Make the thing seem easy to do let the
other person know that you have faith in
his or her ability to do it
end quote
Carnegie points to Lao Thomas who applied
this philosophy by giving a
person quote confidence and
Inspiring a person with
quote courage and faith
Carnegie gives a couple of stories about
how giving someone confidence and
minimizing the task had positive outcomes
From a man's learning to dance being told
he had natural rhythm instead of being
told that they needed to
start over from scratch
To Carnegie himself learning to play card
games because someone told
him he would be a natural at it
to a final story that Carnegie talks
about about a child
that had been told and
Labeled as a brain damaged child from a
very young age following a car accident
and his classmates
called him Frankenstein
Well that child's father took it upon
himself to work with the boy who?
When he discovered he could actually
learned and was not actually brain
damaged the boy eventually
excelled in school
All of that because he gave his son hope
he made him believe in himself
Carnegie says quote if you
want to help others to improve
Remember his principle number eight which
is use encouragement
Make the fault seem easy to correct
Now as I send you on your way today
remember to be careful
with those buns and burners
I want everyone and everyone's eyelashes
safely to come back tomorrow. Hey, thanks
