Welcome to So Much To Say: A Legal Podcast For People where we explore the behind-the-scenes of work, law, life, and everything in between. We’re your hosts, business development and legal marketing coaches Jennifer Ramsey and Megan Senese, and we’re here to showcase the human side of the legal world, from marketing and consulting to the very real challenges of balancing ambitious careers with being human. This isn’t your typical, dry legal show. Instead, So Much To Say is a human-centered leadership, marketing, and culture podcast through the lens of law. We bring you real stories, candid conversations, and thoughtful insights that remind you that outside of being a lawyer or legal marketer, what makes you human matters too. So whether you’re navigating billable hours, building meaningful relationships, redefining success, or simply trying to stay human in a high-performance profession, this podcast is for you.
Stay human. Stay inspired. Namaste (or whatever keeps you human).
[00:00:00] Megan Senese: You are the inspiration. You are all you need
[00:00:08] Welcome to Minis with Megan on So Much To Say: A Legal Podcast For People.
[00:00:17] Maybe you are waiting for that right idea, waiting to feel energized, waiting for clarity, waiting for yourself to feel more confident, waiting for that just, like, perfect moment. We often look externally for that inspiration to hit us so that we can begin, so that action can follow. But sometimes we have to stop looking externally.
[00:00:46] Like, what if that inspiration externally never comes? And this is particularly resonant for me, as just a couple of weeks ago I was texting John and saying, "You know what? We are the inspiration for ourselves." We cannot keep looking and waiting for something kind of perfect to hit us. We have to be that inspiration.
[00:01:07] We can't keep kind of relying on the comfortable explanation of, "I'm just not inspired right now." And that's not to say that you shouldn't take a break or lean into not feeling inspired and reflect and, and take a pause, but if you're waiting around to feel inspired to take that first step, maybe you can take one micro move to create that energy.
[00:01:32] Sometimes you can get some clarity just from engaging with the work that you're trying to do, even if you fail. You don't need inspiration to begin. You just need a beginning, and you just need yourself. Think about that one thing that you've been waiting to feel inspired to do. What's something really small that you can break down as a beginning point?
[00:01:58] Maybe you do that today, not because you're totally ready, which we've also talked about as how do you kickstart your business in a, in a previous episode. Start before you're ready. But because taking a small step is going to create that feeling that you have been looking externally for, and the only one that can really make that inspiration actionable is you.
[00:02:22] So my closing thought is this: If there are people around you that inspire you, lean into that. If going outside is your external force in being inspired, lean into that. But if you're waiting around for others to inspire you, that's the piece that I want you to focus on. We are in control of how we approach our business, how we approach our relationships, how we approach our careers, and the person that is most invested in all of that is you.
[00:02:56] You are the inspiration. You are all you need.
