If you're a little hesitant to grow
a personal brand because you think
maybe you're not the type of person
to do that, like you don't have the
right personality for it, or maybe
you don't like the spotlight, you
don't like having attention on you, or
you're not good on camera, or you're an
introvert, or you're just someone who
doesn't really, you know, see yourself
as, as like a guru or an authority or
anything like that, or a leader maybe.
You don't really see
yourself in that position.
You know, it just doesn't really
come naturally to you maybe.
Then I wanna talk to you
because I think it's important
for you to know this about me.
Like, I am probably the last
person in the world who you would
expect to have a personal brand.
Like, if you would've known me
throughout my life, like when I was a
kid, I was the shy, quiet kid, right?
I was the kid who never spoke up.
I was the kid who was not very confident.
Like, you probably would never
expect me to be in the position
that I am today, you know?
And if you would've told me that
when I was a kid, that I was gonna
grow up to be like a leader or an
influencer or whatever, I probably
wouldn't have believed you, you know?
So I am the type of person that
doesn't like the spotlight.
I am an introvert.
I really like being
behind the scenes more.
I don't really like making
video content that much.
I would much rather no one
knows-- know I exist, basically.
Like, I would be totally content
if no one ever knew I existed.
But I still am focused on growing my
personal brand because I see the value
in it, and I have learned that there is
a lot of fulfillment that comes from it.
Even though it doesn't necessarily come
naturally to me, it has been one of
the best things that I've ever done for
myself, and I think it's really important
to not see a personal brand as something
that is, like, glorifying yourself.
It is not about you.
It is not about, like, getting attention
or having people, like, look up to you
or respect you, although people will.
But it's not like you're
doing it for that reason.
It's not because you want
to be famous or something.
You know?
Like, you're doing it just because it is
a smart move, especially in this world
and, like, this economy that we live in.
It is a smart move for
your financial future.
It is one of the only things really
that's gonna give you financial
security for the rest of your life.
A personal brand is so essential, I
think, because if you don't have a brand,
like, you can still have a business,
you know, without a personal brand, but
then that business is b- is basically
gonna revolve around a certain product
or service, and that is very dangerous.
It's very dangerous to have your
business just revolve around a product
or service because what happens if you
decide, like, you don't wanna do that
anymore, or you get bored of offering
that product or service, or the market
changes, and then nobody's really buying
that product or service anymore, or you
become known for, like, a very specific
thing, like a specific niche, you know?
And then you're boxed into that, and
then what happens if you change your
mind, or you just get burnt out because
you don't wanna do that anymore,
or the market changes or whatever.
You know?
Like AI comes and takes away that
part of the market or whatever.
You know?
Like anything could happen and just
wipe out your entire business in,
like, a, a month or two, you know?
And that's a very dangerous
place to be, I think.
So I think a personal brand is the
only real, like, long-term moat.
It's, like, the only long-term protection
that you're gonna have because a personal
brand is basically just a platform.
It's just a way for you to create
distribution so that no matter
what direction you go in in the
future, you can easily pivot.
You know?
Like, you can easily change the
product or service that you're
selling at any given time, basically.
You know?
Like, the thing you're selling
today is probably not gonna be
the same thing that you're selling
a few years from now, right?
So if your business is based around
you, and you attract an audience of
people that just, you know, like you and
follow you for you and just, like, enjoy
hearing the things that you have to say
and talk about, then it doesn't matter
if you change your mind in the future,
if you pivot your business a few times
if you change your product or service.
I mean, if you have a personal brand,
you could basically sell whatever
you want for decades to come.
You know?
Like, maybe you could have a
personal brand even into your old
age, and then in your old age,
let's say you start writing books.
Well, now you have an audience.
You can sell your books.
You know?
Like, you can reach way more people
with your books because you spent all
that time throughout the r- your whole
life building your personal brand.
You know?
Like, that's kind of, like, my plan
actually, is to just Uh, build my personal
brand over the decades, and eventually
I plan to, like, kind of semi-retire
and just, like, start writing books.
That's kinda like my long-term game
plan is, like, after I make enough money
in my business and I retire and I have
enough in investments and stuff where
I can safely retire, then my plan is
really just to write books full-time.
But because I have a personal brand and
because I'll be growing that over the
years, by the time that, you know, when
that time comes, when I start writing
books full-time, I'll already have the
audience to sell my books to, and then
I'll be able to make a living on just my
book income because I have that audience
there that I can leverage, you know?
But if you don't have that audience,
then there's a lot less of a
guarantee that anything you do in
the future is gonna work, you know?
So I think a personal brand is essential,
and I understand that it might feel
unnatural for a lot of people, you know?
Like, if you don't think you
have that personality type.
I just wanna say, like,
that's a myth, you know?
It's, it's a myth that just because you're
an introvert maybe that you can't have a
personal brand, or just because you're,
like, insecure when you talk to the camera
or you don't feel confident talking to
the camera that that means you can't have
a personal brand, or if you feel like
you're not an expert at anything that that
means you can't have a personal brand.
Like, th- these are all myths because
I went through these things too.
Like, when I s- first started
creating content thirteen years ago,
I wasn't confident on camera either.
I was completely awkward and
super uncomfortable on camera.
Like, not, not even
close to good on camera.
But I still started, you know?
I still did it.
I am also probab- probably the
biggest introvert you'll ever meet.
Like, I took a personality test one
time, and it said I was in, like, the
ninety-eighth percentile of introversion.
But that hasn't stopped me from
building my personal brand.
Just because I'm an introvert, just
because I wasn't natural on camera
and I didn't know how to communicate,
just because when I started I wasn't
a foremost leading expert on a certain
topic, that didn't stop me, you know?
So th- those are all
just excuses, you know?
You have to be very careful because
your mind is designed to protect you.
Your, your mind is like a
survival mechanism, you know?
It's like it's designed to help
you avoid doing the things that are
uncomfortable because in your mind,
like in the animal part of your
mind, it's about survival, you know?
Your mind is trying to keep you in your
comfort zone because if you go out of your
comfort zone, like when we lived in the
jungles, if you went out of your comfort
zone and you weren't careful, you'd get
eaten by an animal or something, you know?
So your mind is always trying to
protect you from doing the thing that
feels uncomfortable and feels unsafe.
So you will rationalize and justify
why you can't do these things.
Like, "Oh, I can't start building my
personal brand because I don't have
enough time," or, "I'm not an expert," or,
"Because I'm an introvert," or whatever.
Like, you'll have all these
excuses in your mind, and none
of them are actually true.
They're all just justifications
and avoidance mechanisms.
And so you have to just be honest
with yourself and just try to see
things objectively and just try to
ask yourself, like, " Is building a
personal brand something that would
be good for my long-term future?"
Like, can you seeâ¦
Like, take all the emotion out of it and
how you feel about it or what you believe
about it, and just ask yourself the simple
question: Will having a personal brand
help me make more money, be more secure,
help my future self be more secure?
Will it help me impact more people,
make a bigger difference in the world?
Yes.
I mean, you could answer yes to
all those questions very easily.
So if that's the case, then you can say,
"Okay, well, bui- building a personal
brand then is obviously a good idea."
So now the question is,
why am I not doing it?
Like, why am I not taking it seriously?
And that's when you get into the
fear around it, and you realize that
the only reason you're not doing
it is just because you have fear.
And if you have fear, it probably, it's
probably just 'cause you haven't done it
enough, you haven't put in the reps, and
maybe you haven't learned the skills.
I- if that's the case, you should
definitely join my program, Script Lab.
I'm gonna teach you all the skills
that you need to learn, so you can
feel confident and comfortable when
you do show up and make content.
Um, but it's just one of those two things.
It's like you either just
haven't put in the reps or you
haven't learned the skills.
And if you just put in the reps and
learn the skills, you'll get confident,
and then you'll feel confident showing
up, and then it's gonna get easier and
easier and easier the more you do it.
And then you start to get into the more
intangible benefits of it, like the
personal growth that comes from it.
Like, I, I think even if you never
made a dollar from your personal brand,
it would still be worth doing it just
because of how much you're gonna grow
as a person, how much more confident
you're gonna become in yourself.
Like, that is the biggest benefit
that I've seen by far because,
like I said, when I was younger,
I was not very confident at all.
I was very shy, very quiet, not
very confident in myself, pretty
insecure, insecure about my looks,
insecure about how I talked.
I was just insecure about
everything, basically.
And making content over the years and just
learning how to communicate my message
and just realizing how powerful I really
am and how much I can do in my life
and how many people I can help and just
realizing that you can be valuable in this
world and that you can be a leader and
that you can do hard things, it, it just
builds your confidence, like, so much.
Like, that's the biggest benefit
by far for me personally.
Um, and then there's the, you
know, the money you can make too,
which is great, and that's what
a lot of people get into it for.
But it's so much more than just
the money and the business results.
I mean, it's like, it's the best
thing I've ever done for myself.
That's all I can say.
Um, so yeah, I hope this helps in some
way, and I'll talk to you in the next one.
Cheers.
